It is mandatory to adhere to the terminology of the Shari'ah in matters of creed.
One must avoid terminologies that are innovative.
As for ambiguous terms used in creed,
Which are susceptible to both correct and incorrect interpretations,
One must inquire about the intended meaning behind them.
Whatever is found to be true is affirmed using its Shari'ah-based terminology.
And whatever is found to be false is rejected.
Among the terms circulated by philosophers,
And those who negate the attributes of Allah,
Which appear neither in the Qur'an nor the Sunnah,
Are 'body' (al-jism), 'substance' (al-jawhar), and 'spatial location' (al-hayyiz).
The obligation regarding such terms is for us to say:
They have appeared neither in the Qur'an nor in the Sunnah.
Rather, we affirm only what Allah has affirmed for Himself,
Or what His Messenger, peace be upon him, has affirmed for Him.
We negate what Allah has negated and what His Messenger, peace be upon him, has negated.
Likewise, we negate everything that implies deficiency,
And we declare Allah to be far above it.
