A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the senior Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
I am one of the ten promised Paradise.
My supplications are answered by Allah.
My father was among the Hunafa' who lived upon monotheism before the mission of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
He is among those who will be resurrected on the Day of Resurrection as a nation unto himself.
I was the first governor of Damascus in Islam.
I was among those who attended its siege alongside Abu 'Ubaydah Ibn al-Jarrah, may Allah be pleased with him.
When it was conquered,
he appointed me as his deputy over it.
I had a piece of land in Medina,
and next to it was land belonging to Arwa bint Uways.
Arwa went to Muhammad Ibn 'Amr Ibn Hazm,
and claimed that I had built a wall on her land.
She asked him to come to me and speak to me so that I would return her right to her,
and said that if I did not,
she would cry out to the Prophet in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
and complain about me to the governor of Medina, Marwan Ibn al-Hakam.
He said to her,
"Do not harm a Companion of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him;
he would not wrong you, nor would he take what is rightfully yours."
She left,
and then went to 'Umarah Ibn 'Amr and 'Abdullah Ibn Salam.
She said to them the same as she had said to the first,
and that if I did not comply,
she would cry out to the Prophet in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
and complain about me to the governor of Medina.
They came to me at my land in al-'Aqiq,
and I asked them, "What brings you here?"
They said,
"Arwa bint Uways came to us,
and claimed that you built a wall on her property,
and she swore by Allah that if you do not remove it,
she will cry out against you in the mosque of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him,
and complain about you to the governor of Medina.
So we wanted to come to you and remind you of that."
I said,
"I would never take any part of her land,
for I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, say:
'Whoever takes a span of land unjustly,
it will be tied around his neck on the Day of Resurrection from seven earths.'
So let her come and take whatever right she has."
Then I said,
"O Allah, if she has lied against me,
do not let her die until You take away her sight,
and let her death occur on her own land."
Go back and inform her of that.
Arwa bint Uways came to my land,
tore down the wall, and built a house.
Allah answered my supplication against her,
and she did not live long before she went blind.
She used to get up at night for her needs,
with a servant girl leading her.
One night, she got up without waking the servant,
and she fell into a well of hers on her land,
and died.
