00:00:36.979 --> 00:00:39.979 For this is the supreme ideal for all married couples. 00:00:39.979 --> 00:00:47.270 Among the beautiful examples of the interaction between the Prophet, peace be upon upon him, to his Companions, 00:02:21.590 --> 00:02:25.590 in which he encouraged them to convert their Hajj into an ‘Umrah. 00:02:25.590 --> 00:02:28.590 However, she was surprised by the onset of her menstruation 00:02:28.590 --> 00:02:31.590 while she was at Sarif, near Makkah. 00:02:31.590 --> 00:02:35.590 This meant she would be unable to perform ‘Umrah, 00:02:35.590 --> 00:02:39.590 as the time remaining until the Day of ‘Arafah was short, 00:02:39.590 --> 00:02:41.590 and menstruation has its own duration. 00:02:41.590 --> 00:02:44.590 Our Mother ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, realized 00:02:44.590 --> 00:02:47.590 that she would not be able to perform ‘Umrah. 00:02:47.590 --> 00:02:51.590 As she heard the Prophet, peace be upon him, encouraging his Companions 00:02:51.590 --> 00:02:53.590 to convert their pilgrimage into an ‘Umrah, 00:02:53.590 --> 00:02:55.590 she wept. 00:02:55.590 --> 00:02:58.590 The Prophet, peace be upon him, came to her 00:02:58.590 --> 00:03:00.590 while she was weeping, 00:03:00.590 --> 00:03:03.590 and he comforted her to understand the reason for her tears. 00:03:03.590 --> 00:03:04.590 He asked, 00:03:04.590 --> 00:03:07.590 "What makes you weep, O ‘A’ishah?" 00:03:07.590 --> 00:03:10.719 The weeping of ‘A’ishah when she began her period 00:03:10.719 --> 00:03:16.719 occurred because of the distress and sadness she felt at missing the ‘Umrah. 00:03:16.719 --> 00:03:20.719 This is a reason that men might not quickly grasp, 00:03:20.719 --> 00:03:22.719 and a man might not pay much attention to it, 00:03:22.719 --> 00:03:27.719 because he views menstruation as a natural occurrence for every woman. 00:03:27.719 --> 00:03:29.719 And it is indeed so. 00:03:29.719 --> 00:03:32.719 However, a woman may be in a psychological state 00:03:32.719 --> 00:03:35.719 where she is deeply affected by the onset of her period, 00:03:35.719 --> 00:03:39.719 such as a woman who has been waiting to conceive and is disappointed when it does not happen, 00:03:39.719 --> 00:03:42.719 so she weeps when her period arrives, 00:03:42.719 --> 00:03:44.719 or for any other reason. 00:03:44.719 --> 00:03:49.780 Thus, the action of the Prophet, peace be upon him, with ‘A’ishah 00:03:49.780 --> 00:03:55.780 serves as guidance for husbands on the art of dealing with a woman in such a state. 00:03:55.780 --> 00:03:58.780 The Prophet, peace be upon him, did not stop 00:03:58.780 --> 00:04:01.780 at merely asking her the reason for her weeping; 00:04:01.780 --> 00:04:03.780 rather, he eased the matter for her 00:04:03.780 --> 00:04:09.780 by explaining that she was not the only one afflicted with this menstruation, 00:04:09.780 --> 00:04:11.780 but that it is the case for all daughters of Adam. 00:04:11.780 --> 00:04:13.780 He said, 00:04:13.780 --> 00:04:17.779 "This is a matter that Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam." 00:04:17.779 --> 00:04:20.779 Al-Qurtubi said: "Meaning menstruation." 00:04:20.779 --> 00:04:22.779 "And He decreed it upon them," 00:04:22.779 --> 00:04:24.779 meaning He created them with this nature, 00:04:24.779 --> 00:04:26.779 and established it for them. 00:04:26.779 --> 00:04:29.779 This was a way of comforting and consoling her, 00:04:29.779 --> 00:04:33.779 and it is evidence of his inclination toward her and his tenderness for her. 00:04:33.779 --> 00:04:36.980 Ibn Rajab, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 00:04:36.980 --> 00:04:40.980 "He ordained it for them and bound them to it." 00:04:40.980 --> 00:04:43.980 "Thus, they are rewarded for their patience with it." 00:04:43.980 --> 00:04:49.100 The Prophet, peace be upon him, calmed her distress with two points: 00:04:49.100 --> 00:04:55.100 First, that menstruation is a matter Allah has decreed for women in general; 00:04:55.100 --> 00:04:58.100 and second, that she is like them, 00:04:58.100 --> 00:05:01.100 experiencing what they experience. 00:05:01.100 --> 00:05:08.329 After the Prophet, peace be upon him, calmed our Mother ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, 00:05:08.329 --> 00:05:13.329 he moved to another dimension of psychological comfort for her. 00:05:13.329 --> 00:05:18.329 He explained to her that the onset of menstruation for a woman in the state of ihram does not harm her, 00:05:18.329 --> 00:05:21.329 nor does it affect her ihram. 00:05:21.329 --> 00:05:27.329 Then the Prophet, peace be upon him, instructed her on what to do in her situation, 00:05:27.329 --> 00:05:29.329 saying: 00:05:29.329 --> 00:05:34.329 "Perform all the rites of the pilgrimage, except that you should not circumambulate the House." 00:05:34.329 --> 00:05:38.329 Al-Bukhari titled this hadith in his Sahih by saying: 00:05:38.329 --> 00:05:43.329 "The menstruating woman performs all the rites except circumambulation of the House." 00:05:43.329 --> 00:05:45.459 Ibn Rajab, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 00:05:45.459 --> 00:05:48.459 "The intention of al-Bukhari in this chapter" 00:05:48.459 --> 00:05:52.459 "is that menstruation does not prevent any of the rites of Hajj," 00:05:52.459 --> 00:05:56.459 "except for circumambulation of the House and the prayer following it." 00:05:56.459 --> 00:06:00.459 "As for everything else, such as standing (at ‘Arafah), dhikr, and supplication," 00:06:00.459 --> 00:06:03.459 "menstruation does unanimously agreed to be permissible." 00:06:19.490 --> 00:06:22.709 Ibn al-Mulaqqin, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 00:06:22.709 --> 00:06:26.709 "Regarding the menstruating woman witnessing all the rites," 00:06:26.709 --> 00:06:28.709 "and her saying the takbir during the two ‘Eids," 00:06:28.709 --> 00:06:31.709 "is evidence for the permissibility of her reciting the Qur'an," 00:06:31.709 --> 00:06:34.709 "because it is from the Sunnah to remember Allah during the rites." 00:06:35.709 --> 00:06:37.870 A woman in Ramadan 00:06:37.870 --> 00:06:41.870 may be anxious about the arrival of her monthly cycle, 00:06:41.870 --> 00:06:44.870 especially in the last ten nights, 00:06:44.870 --> 00:06:48.870 due to her intense desire for worship, reading the Qur'an, 00:06:48.870 --> 00:06:50.870 and seizing the season of goodness. 00:06:50.870 --> 00:06:53.870 She might resort to using certain medications 00:06:53.870 --> 00:06:55.870 that delay the onset of menstruation, 00:06:55.870 --> 00:06:58.870 which are rarely free from harm 00:06:58.870 --> 00:07:00.870 to her health and psychological state. 00:07:00.870 --> 00:07:03.870 These medications may even cause 00:07:03.870 --> 00:07:06.870 a disruption in the woman's cycle, 00:07:06.870 --> 00:07:08.870 resulting in discharge of various colors, 00:07:08.870 --> 00:07:11.870 which leaves her in a state of confusion, 00:07:11.870 --> 00:07:16.129 not knowing whether she is menstruating or pure. 00:07:16.129 --> 00:07:18.129 If only the woman would remember 00:07:18.129 --> 00:07:20.129 the words of the Prophet, peace be upon him, 00:07:20.129 --> 00:07:23.129 to ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her: 00:07:23.129 --> 00:07:27.129 "That is something Allah has decreed for the daughters of Adam." 00:07:27.129 --> 00:07:29.129 "So do what the pilgrim does," 00:07:29.129 --> 00:07:33.129 "except do not circumambulate the House until you are pure." 00:07:33.129 --> 00:07:36.129 If she were to be content with what Allah has decreed for her regarding menstruation 00:07:36.129 --> 00:07:39.129 at the time Allah has ordained for her, 00:07:39.129 --> 00:07:41.129 and then perform what the fasting person does 00:07:41.129 --> 00:07:44.129 of righteousness and good deeds during this month, 00:07:44.129 --> 00:07:47.129 except that she does not fast or pray, 00:07:47.129 --> 00:07:50.129 it would be better for her than these medications 00:07:50.129 --> 00:07:53.129 that may harm her without her realizing it. 00:07:53.129 --> 00:07:56.189 Among the ways the Prophet, peace be upon him, pleased 00:07:56.189 --> 00:07:59.189 the heart of ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, 00:07:59.189 --> 00:08:02.189 was that he, peace be upon him, 00:08:02.189 --> 00:08:05.189 when he departed from Mina after stoning the pillars, 00:08:05.189 --> 00:08:07.189 stopped at al-Muhassab, 00:08:07.189 --> 00:08:10.189 which is a place between Mina and the Sacred Mosque, 00:08:10.189 --> 00:08:13.189 and prayed there the Dhuhr, ‘Asr, 00:08:13.189 --> 00:08:15.189 Maghrib, and ‘Isha’ prayers. 00:08:15.189 --> 00:08:17.290 When evening came, 00:08:17.290 --> 00:08:20.290 ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, spoke with him 00:08:20.290 --> 00:08:22.290 regarding the matter of her rites. 00:08:22.290 --> 00:08:25.290 She said, "O Messenger of Allah," 00:08:25.290 --> 00:08:28.290 "will my companions return with both Hajj and ‘Umrah," 00:08:28.290 --> 00:08:31.290 "while I return with only Hajj?" 00:08:31.290 --> 00:08:34.289 The Prophet, peace be upon him, tried 00:08:34.289 --> 00:08:37.289 to convince her that it had been written for her. 00:08:37.289 --> 00:08:39.289 He said to her, 00:08:39.289 --> 00:08:42.289 "Your circumambulation of the House and between al-Safa and al-Marwah" 00:08:42.289 --> 00:08:45.289 "suffices for both your Hajj and your ‘Umrah." 00:08:45.289 --> 00:08:47.289 Narrated by Abu Dawud. 00:08:47.289 --> 00:08:50.289 But she refused and said, "O Messenger of Allah," 00:08:50.289 --> 00:08:53.289 "you have performed ‘Umrah, but I have not." 00:08:53.289 --> 00:08:55.289 "O Messenger of Allah," 00:08:55.289 --> 00:08:57.289 "the people return ‘Umrah," 00:09:10.289 --> 00:09:12.289 "while I have not added anything to the Hajj." 00:09:12.289 --> 00:09:15.289 "Will your wives return with Hajj and ‘Umrah," 00:09:15.289 --> 00:09:19.289 "while I return with Hajj that has no ‘Umrah with it?" 00:09:19.289 --> 00:09:22.320 Ibn Taymiyyah, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 00:09:22.320 --> 00:09:24.320 "When she persisted," 00:09:24.320 --> 00:09:27.480 "he allowed her to perform ‘Umrah to comfort her heart." 00:09:27.480 --> 00:09:30.480 And Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, said: 00:09:30.480 --> 00:09:32.480 "She felt in herself" 00:09:32.480 --> 00:09:34.480 "that her companions would return" 00:09:34.480 --> 00:09:36.480 "with a separate Hajj and ‘Umrah," 00:09:36.480 --> 00:09:39.480 "as they were performing Tamattu‘," 00:09:39.480 --> 00:09:42.480 "and they did not menstruate nor were they performing Qiran," 00:09:42.480 --> 00:09:46.480 "while she would return with an ‘Umrah included within her Hajj." 00:09:46.480 --> 00:09:49.480 "So he commanded her brother to take her to perform ‘Umrah from al-Tan‘im" 00:09:49.480 --> 00:09:52.639 "to soothe her heart." 00:09:52.639 --> 00:09:55.639 This is an example from the fragrant Seerah 00:09:55.639 --> 00:09:58.639 of the Prophet, peace be upon him, 00:09:58.639 --> 00:10:02.639 expressing the beauty of his conduct, peace be upon him, 00:10:02.639 --> 00:10:05.639 with ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her. 00:10:05.639 --> 00:10:08.899 And his entire Seerah is beautiful. 00:10:08.899 --> 00:10:11.899 We shall continue in a future meeting, if
