The excellence of the family-oriented man.
How beautiful is the father and guardian who cherishes his family,
and is keen to serve them,
and who creates their happiness, which shines through in most situations,
and shields them from harsh bitterness,
or distressing circumstances.
Such a person is the best and most superior among us.
'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, says:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
"The best of you is the best to his family,
and I am the best of you to my family."
Despite his preoccupation with his call,
and his passion for reform,
this did not prevent him from attending to his family,
with compassionate care,
and looking after them with a level of attention
that encompassed all their needs.
You may observe people who, with their brothers and friends,
show generosity, chivalry, and magnanimity,
yet with their own families and relatives,
they show weakness, withdrawal, and negligence.
This is a flaw that must be remedied.
A person’s beauty, sincerity, and character
are manifested in caring for their family,
and improving their affairs.
It is not permissible to neglect them or disregard their needs.
Part of being good to them
is caring for them in both their religious and worldly matters,
not merely providing food and drink.
Rather, one should encompass them from all aspects,
planting faith firmly within them,
establishing prayer steadfastly,
building their character soundly,
and nurturing their physical well-being.
Just as they are built up through food and good care,
they are likewise built up through religion and noble character.
One should not burden them with what they cannot bear,
and they should be shining lamps for their religion and their lands.
And Allah is the Grantor of success.
