00:00:00.690 --> 00:00:03.690
A verse and its Tafsir.

00:00:03.690 --> 00:00:07.710
Allah the Exalted says:

00:00:07.710 --> 00:00:16.539
“Lo! Allah enjoineth justice and kindness, and giving to kinsfolk, and forbiddeth lewdness and abomination and wickedness. He exhorteth you in order that ye may take heed.” (16:90)

00:00:16.539 --> 00:00:18.539
Ihsan (spiritual excellence) transcends justice.

00:00:18.539 --> 00:00:22.539
This is because justice is for a person to give what is due from him,

00:00:22.539 --> 00:00:24.539
and to take what is rightfully his.

00:00:24.539 --> 00:00:28.570
Ihsan, however, is to give more than what is due from one,

00:00:28.570 --> 00:00:31.699
and to take less than what is rightfully one's own.

00:00:31.699 --> 00:00:34.700
Thus, Ihsan is an addition to justice.

00:00:34.700 --> 00:00:36.700
Striving for justice is an obligation,

00:00:36.700 --> 00:00:40.789
while striving for Ihsan is a recommendation and a voluntary act of devotion.

00:00:40.789 --> 00:00:45.789
It is for this reason that Allah the Exalted magnified the reward of the doers of good, saying:

00:00:45.789 --> 00:00:48.789
“As for those who strive in Us, We surely guide them to Our paths, and lo! Allah is with the good.” (29:69)

00:00:48.789 --> 00:00:50.820
And He said:

00:00:50.820 --> 00:00:55.210
Indeed, Allah loves the doers of good.

00:00:55.210 --> 00:00:59.210
