WEBVTT 00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:05.089 In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. 00:00:05.089 --> 00:00:17.129 It is Paradise. 00:00:17.129 --> 00:00:21.129 The vessels of Paradise and its platters. 00:00:21.129 --> 00:00:26.820 Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds. 00:00:26.820 --> 00:00:29.820 And may peace and blessings of Allah be upon our Prophet Muhammad. 00:00:29.820 --> 00:00:34.100 And upon all his family and companions. 00:00:34.100 --> 00:00:36.170 O people of Paradise. 00:00:36.170 --> 00:00:40.170 Among your delights and comforts in Paradise, 00:00:40.170 --> 00:00:44.170 is that your vessels, from which you eat and drink, 00:00:44.170 --> 00:00:47.170 are made of pure gold and silver. 00:00:47.170 --> 00:00:52.200 Just as the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, informed us when he said: 00:00:52.200 --> 00:00:57.200 "Two gardens of silver, their vessels and all they contain; 00:00:57.200 --> 00:01:02.200 and two gardens of gold, their vessels and all they contain." 00:01:02.200 --> 00:01:05.329 And he, peace be upon him, said: 00:01:05.329 --> 00:01:09.329 "Do not drink from vessels of gold and silver, 00:01:09.329 --> 00:01:12.329 and do not eat from their platters, 00:01:12.329 --> 00:01:14.329 for they are for them in this world, 00:01:14.329 --> 00:01:17.900 and for us in the Hereafter." 00:01:17.900 --> 00:01:20.099 O people of Paradise. 00:01:20.099 --> 00:01:23.099 If you ask about the platters of Paradise, 00:01:23.099 --> 00:01:25.099 the singular is 'sahfah'. 00:01:25.099 --> 00:01:28.099 It is larger than a bowl, 00:01:28.099 --> 00:01:31.099 and it is what is filled with food, 00:01:31.099 --> 00:01:34.099 around which several people sit. 00:01:34.099 --> 00:01:38.099 Allah the Exalted informed us about them, saying: 00:01:38.099 --> 00:01:42.099 “Therein are brought round for them trays of gold and goblets, and therein is all that souls desire and eyes find sweet. And ye are immortal therein.” (43:71) 00:01:42.099 --> 00:01:44.290 And in these platters, 00:01:44.290 --> 00:01:47.290 is whatever your souls desire of food. 00:01:47.290 --> 00:01:52.290 Your servants, the immortal youths of Paradise, bring it to you, 00:01:52.290 --> 00:01:55.290 in the finest and most magnificent vessels. 00:01:55.290 --> 00:01:59.579 If you ask about the cups of Paradise, 00:01:59.579 --> 00:02:03.579 they are drinking vessels that have no handles, 00:02:03.579 --> 00:02:05.579 nor ears, nor loops. 00:02:05.579 --> 00:02:07.579 They are also made of gold. 00:02:07.579 --> 00:02:10.580 The Exalted said regarding them: 00:02:10.580 --> 00:02:16.580 “Therein are brought round for them trays of gold and goblets, and therein is all that souls desire and eyes find sweet. And ye are immortal therein.” (43:71) 00:02:16.580 --> 00:02:20.860 But if the cups have spouts, 00:02:20.860 --> 00:02:22.860 they are called 'abariq' (pitchers). 00:02:22.860 --> 00:02:24.860 The singular is 'ibriq'. 00:02:24.860 --> 00:02:26.860 From the word 'bariq' (brilliance), 00:02:26.860 --> 00:02:27.860 which means clarity and radiance. 00:02:27.860 --> 00:02:29.860 So the pitcher in Paradise 00:02:29.860 --> 00:02:33.860 is the cup that has a spout or a handle, 00:02:33.860 --> 00:02:36.860 and its color shines from its clarity. 00:02:36.860 --> 00:02:41.930 The pitchers of Paradise are made of silver, with the clarity of crystal, 00:02:41.930 --> 00:02:45.930 silvery and transparent like glass. 00:02:45.930 --> 00:02:47.930 The Exalted said regarding them: 00:02:47.930 --> 00:02:51.960 "And cups that were crystal, 00:02:51.960 --> 00:02:55.020 crystal made of silver." 00:02:55.020 --> 00:03:00.020 He described them as combining both silver and transparency, 00:03:00.020 --> 00:03:04.020 and this is among the finest and most wondrous of things. 00:03:04.020 --> 00:03:07.409 And in these cups is enough drink 00:03:07.409 --> 00:03:10.409 to satisfy the need of the one drinking, 00:03:10.409 --> 00:03:15.409 without exceeding his need or falling short of it. 00:03:15.409 --> 00:03:18.409 That is why the Exalted said regarding them: 00:03:18.409 --> 00:03:23.409 “(Bright as) glass but (made) of silver, which they (themselves) have measured to the measure (of their deeds).” (76:16) 00:03:23.409 --> 00:03:26.409 This is more profound in the pleasure of the drinker. 00:03:26.409 --> 00:03:28.409 For if it were less, he would be thirsty, 00:03:28.409 --> 00:03:30.409 and his pleasure would be diminished. 00:03:30.409 --> 00:03:32.409 And if it exceeded his need, 00:03:32.409 --> 00:03:34.409 he would be repulsed by it, 00:03:34.409 --> 00:03:39.889 and would feel boredom and weariness from what remains. 00:03:39.889 --> 00:03:43.889 There is a wondrous relationship between what is in the soul of the believer 00:03:43.889 --> 00:03:46.979 and the delight that is before him. 00:03:46.979 --> 00:03:49.979 For as soon as he desires a thing, 00:03:49.979 --> 00:03:51.979 it is exactly as he wished. 00:03:51.979 --> 00:03:55.979 He has no need to ask the angels or the youths 00:03:55.979 --> 00:03:59.979 to describe the food or drink he desires. 00:03:59.979 --> 00:04:02.979 As soon as he desires what is in his soul, 00:04:02.979 --> 00:04:05.979 what he desired is present before him. 00:04:05.979 --> 00:04:08.979 If he wishes to drink something, 00:04:08.979 --> 00:04:12.979 the cup is filled before him with what he wanted. 00:04:12.979 --> 00:04:16.050 And if he desires a specific food, 00:04:16.050 --> 00:04:22.050 the food is directly before him, just as he desires it. 00:04:22.050 --> 00:04:24.370 As for the 'ka's' (goblet) in Paradise, 00:04:24.370 --> 00:04:27.370 it is the vessel when it is filled with wine. 00:04:27.370 --> 00:04:30.399 So every 'ka's' mentioned in the Qur'an 00:04:30.399 --> 00:04:33.399 refers to a cup filled with wine. 00:04:33.399 --> 00:04:36.399 But if it is empty, 00:04:36.399 --> 00:04:38.399 it is not called a 'ka's'. 00:04:38.399 --> 00:04:43.589 The wine of Paradise brings pleasure without any distress; 00:04:43.589 --> 00:04:45.589 there is no stomach ache, 00:04:45.589 --> 00:04:48.589 nor loss of intellect. 00:04:48.589 --> 00:04:50.779 The Exalted said: 00:04:50.779 --> 00:04:53.779 "There will circulate among them immortal youths." 00:04:53.779 --> 00:04:58.779 “With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring” (56:18) 00:04:58.779 --> 00:05:01.069 So, my companions, 00:05:01.069 --> 00:05:06.069 you have in Paradise vessels of gold and silver, 00:05:06.069 --> 00:05:11.069 and you have platters, cups, pitchers, and goblets, 00:05:11.069 --> 00:05:15.069 things that Allah has mentioned to us in the Qur'an, 00:05:15.069 --> 00:05:17.069 and detailed for us, 00:05:17.069 --> 00:05:20.069 to indicate the greatness of what lies beyond them 00:05:20.069 --> 00:05:23.069 of the things that are in Paradise. 00:05:23.069 --> 00:05:26.420 And amidst this great delight, 00:05:26.420 --> 00:05:30.420 as you move between the orchards and gardens, 00:05:30.420 --> 00:05:33.420 and the trees and the greenery, 00:05:33.420 --> 00:05:37.420 you will see greenery to your right and to your left, 00:05:37.420 --> 00:05:40.420 and from every direction around you. 00:05:40.420 --> 00:05:42.519 For Paradise is 'mudhammatan' (dark green), 00:05:42.519 --> 00:05:45.519 meaning it is green, 00:05:45.519 --> 00:05:49.550 its greenness having intensified until it leans toward black, 00:05:49.550 --> 00:05:52.550 from the intensity of irrigation with water, 00:05:52.550 --> 00:05:55.550 and the density of the branches and leaves. 00:05:55.550 --> 00:05:57.939 And in Paradise, there is light, 00:05:57.939 --> 00:06:00.939 but it does not burn or harm, 00:06:00.939 --> 00:06:02.939 nor does it damage the bodies, 00:06:02.939 --> 00:06:05.939 rather, it increases their beauty, radiance, 00:06:05.939 --> 00:06:08.939 brightness, and light. 00:06:08.939 --> 00:06:13.160 Have you seen the hour that comes after the dawn prayer, 00:06:13.160 --> 00:06:15.160 before the rising of the sun? 00:06:15.160 --> 00:06:17.160 How the light is, 00:06:17.160 --> 00:06:19.189 the ultimate in gentleness, 00:06:19.189 --> 00:06:21.189 a delightful atmosphere, 00:06:21.189 --> 00:06:23.189 neither darkness, 00:06:23.189 --> 00:06:25.189 nor a glaring light, 00:06:25.189 --> 00:06:28.189 no sun to hurt the eye, 00:06:28.189 --> 00:06:29.189 it is light, 00:06:29.189 --> 00:06:31.189 but it is gentle. 00:06:31.189 --> 00:06:34.189 Such is the light of Paradise. 00:06:34.189 --> 00:06:36.189 And the example is for approximation. 00:06:36.189 --> 00:06:39.610 O people of Paradise, 00:06:39.610 --> 00:06:43.610 your Paradise has no sun or moon, 00:06:43.610 --> 00:06:45.610 nor night or day, 00:06:45.610 --> 00:06:49.699 but you know the morning and the evening 00:06:49.699 --> 00:06:52.699 by a light that appears from before the Throne. 00:06:52.699 --> 00:06:54.740 You know the duration of the night 00:06:54.740 --> 00:06:58.740 by the lowering of the veils and the closing of the doors, 00:06:58.740 --> 00:07:00.769 and you know the duration of the day 00:07:00.769 --> 00:07:03.769 by the raising of the veils and the opening of the doors, 00:07:03.769 --> 00:07:06.769 as the Exalted said: 00:07:06.769 --> 00:07:11.800 “They hear therein no idle talk, but only Peace; and therein they have food for morn and evening.” (19:62) 00:07:11.800 --> 00:07:13.089 Yes, 00:07:13.089 --> 00:07:15.089 you have in Paradise whatever you desire 00:07:15.089 --> 00:07:18.089 of food and drink, 00:07:18.089 --> 00:07:21.089 at the time of the morning and the time of the evening, 00:07:21.089 --> 00:07:24.089 of the days of this world, 00:07:24.089 --> 00:07:27.089 meaning the duration between one of you having lunch 00:07:27.089 --> 00:07:29.089 in this world and his dinner. 00:07:29.089 --> 00:07:32.790 In a Paradise whose lights have shone, 00:07:32.790 --> 00:07:37.790 and whose rivers have flowed through the trees and the greenery. 00:07:37.790 --> 00:07:40.949 In a Paradise whose walls have towered, 00:07:40.949 --> 00:07:42.949 and whose branches have drawn near, 00:07:42.949 --> 00:07:45.980 submissive with shade and fruit. 00:07:45.980 --> 00:07:47.980 In a Paradise scented with musk, 00:07:47.980 --> 00:07:49.980 in the presence of its aromatic plants, 00:07:49.980 --> 00:07:52.980 and the breeze of the soul among the trees. 00:07:52.980 --> 00:07:55.980 In a Paradise that has brought security and tranquility, 00:07:55.980 --> 00:07:57.980 and in which souls have found contentment, 00:07:57.980 --> 00:08:00.980 free from afflictions and changes. 00:08:00.980 --> 00:08:03.180 Blessed is its dweller, 00:08:03.180 --> 00:08:05.180 for he has become joyful, 00:08:05.180 --> 00:08:09.180 with eternity in delights that remain without disturbance. 00:08:09.180 --> 00:08:12.209 Blessed is its dweller, 00:08:12.209 --> 00:08:14.209 blessed is its inhabitant, 00:08:14.209 --> 00:08:16.209 blessed is he who treads upon it, 00:08:17.209 --> 00:08:19.209 blessed is he with the triumph. 00:08:19.209 --> 00:08:22.199 And in Paradise, there are also rivers, 00:08:22.199 --> 00:08:25.199 flowing from between the houses and palaces, 00:08:25.199 --> 00:08:28.199 and between the chambers and the tents, 00:08:28.199 --> 00:08:31.199 and from beneath the greenery and the trees, 00:08:31.199 --> 00:08:34.330 without a trench in the earth. 00:08:34.330 --> 00:08:37.330 They do not flow through the lands of Paradise, 00:08:37.330 --> 00:08:41.330 but Allah holds them by His power in their courses, 00:08:41.330 --> 00:08:46.330 and the people of Paradise direct them wherever they wish. 00:08:46.330 --> 00:08:48.519 The Exalted said: 00:08:48.519 --> 00:08:52.649 “And give glad tidings (O Muhammad) unto those who believe and do good works; that theirs are Gardens underneath which rivers flow; as often as they are regaled with food of the fruit thereof, they say: this is what was given us aforetime; and it is given to them in resemblance. There for them are pure companions; there for ever they abide.” (2:25) 00:08:52.649 --> 00:08:57.649 “And give glad tidings (O Muhammad) unto those who believe and do good works; that theirs are Gardens underneath which rivers flow; as often as they are regaled with food of the fruit thereof, they say: this is what was given us aforetime; and it is given to them in resemblance. There for them are pure companions; there for ever they abide.” (2:25) 00:08:57.649 --> 00:08:59.940 And these rivers, 00:08:59.940 --> 00:09:03.940 their banks are domes of pearl and chrysolite, 00:09:03.940 --> 00:09:06.940 and their soil is pure musk. 00:09:06.940 --> 00:09:12.259 And the rivers of Paradise gush forth from above, from Firdaws, 00:09:12.259 --> 00:09:17.259 then descend, passing through the various gardens, 00:09:17.259 --> 00:09:21.259 until they reach their furthest levels. 00:09:21.259 --> 00:09:24.740 And Paradise has four seas, 00:09:24.740 --> 00:09:28.740 from which four types of rivers branch out. 00:09:28.740 --> 00:09:32.929 As for the seas, they are the sea of water, 00:09:32.929 --> 00:09:37.929 the sea of honey, the sea of milk, and the sea of wine. 00:09:37.929 --> 00:09:42.179 From them branch out rivers of water that does not stagnate, 00:09:42.179 --> 00:09:46.179 and rivers of milk whose taste does not change, 00:09:46.179 --> 00:09:50.179 “A similitude of the Garden which those who keep their duty (to Allah) are promised: Therein are rivers of water unpolluted, and rivers of milk whereof the flavour changeth not, and rivers of wine delicious to the drinkers, and rivers of clear-run honey; therein for them is every kind of fruit, with pardon from their Lord. (Are those who enjoy all this) like those who are immortal in the Fire and are given boiling water to drink so that it teareth their bowels?” (47:15) 00:09:50.179 --> 00:09:54.179 and rivers of purified honey. 00:09:54.179 --> 00:09:56.600 And Allah, the Almighty and Exalted, 00:09:56.600 --> 00:09:59.600 has made clear that these rivers do not change, 00:09:59.600 --> 00:10:01.600 and that they are wholesome. 00:10:01.600 --> 00:10:04.600 He negated from each one of them 00:10:04.600 --> 00:10:07.600 the affliction that befalls it in this world. 00:10:07.600 --> 00:10:10.700 For the affliction of water is that it becomes stagnant, 00:10:10.700 --> 00:10:15.700 the affliction of milk is that its taste changes to sourness, 00:10:15.700 --> 00:10:19.700 the affliction of wine is the unpleasantness of its taste, 00:10:19.700 --> 00:10:22.700 which contradicts the pleasure of drinking it, 00:10:22.700 --> 00:10:26.700 and the affliction of honey is the lack of its purification. 00:10:26.700 --> 00:10:30.789 So He negated these afflictions from these rivers, 00:10:30.789 --> 00:10:34.210 and singled out these rivers for mention, 00:10:34.210 --> 00:10:37.210 because they are the best of drinks. 00:10:37.210 --> 00:10:40.240 Water is for their quenching and purification, 00:10:40.240 --> 00:10:43.240 honey is for their healing and benefit, 00:10:43.240 --> 00:10:46.240 milk is for their strength and nourishment, 00:10:46.240 --> 00:10:49.240 and wine is for their pleasure and joy. 00:10:49.240 --> 00:10:53.500 He put water first because it is the life of souls, 00:10:53.500 --> 00:10:58.500 followed with honey because it is the healing of people, 00:10:58.500 --> 00:11:02.500 thirded with milk because it is the natural disposition (fitrah), 00:11:02.500 --> 00:11:05.500 and concluded with wine, 00:11:05.500 --> 00:11:08.500 an indication that whoever was forbidden it in this world 00:11:08.500 --> 00:11:11.500 shall not be forbidden it in the Hereafter. 00:11:11.500 --> 00:11:16.039 Its rivers flow without a trench, 00:11:16.039 --> 00:11:20.039 glory be to Him who holds them from overflowing, 00:11:20.039 --> 00:11:23.039 Flowing beneath them just as they desire, 00:11:23.039 --> 00:11:27.039 gushing forth, with the rivers suffering no depletion, 00:11:27.039 --> 00:11:32.169 of purified honey, then water, then wine, 00:11:32.169 --> 00:11:36.169 and then rivers of milk. 00:11:36.169 --> 00:11:40.200 By Allah, those substances are not like these, 00:11:40.200 --> 00:11:44.200 though they share the same names in language. 00:11:44.200 --> 00:11:48.809 O Allah, we ask You for Paradise and its bounties. 00:11:48.809 --> 00:11:51.940 O Allah, we ask You for Firdaws, 00:11:51.940 --> 00:11:54.940 the highest level of Paradise, 00:11:54.940 --> 00:11:58.059 without reckoning or punishment. 00:11:58.059 --> 00:12:01.220 O Allah, answer our prayer. 00:12:01.220 --> 00:12:04.580 And this journey has more to follow. 00:12:04.580 --> 00:12:09.899 Paradise.
