A summary of the Tafsir of al-Tabari.

Surah al-Zalzalah.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
“When Earth is shaken with her (final) earthquake” (99:1)
"And the earth throws out its burdens."
"And man says, 'What is the matter with it?'"
"That Day, it will report its news."
"Because your Lord has inspired it."
When the earth is shaken for the onset of the Hour.
It is convulsed with a violent shaking.
And the earth brings forth what is within its depths.
Bringing the dead out alive.
For the dead person inside the earth is a burden to it.
Just as he was a burden upon its surface while he was alive.
And people will say when the earth is shaken.
For the onset of the Hour.
What is wrong with the earth, and what is its story?
On that Day, the earth will reveal its news.
Through the earthquake and the convulsion.
And the bringing forth of the dead from its depths to its surface.
By the inspiration of Allah to it and His permission for it to do so.
It has been said.
The meaning of this is that the earth will recount its news.
Regarding those who were upon its surface, both the obedient and the disobedient.
"That Day, the people will depart separated to be shown their deeds."
“And whoso doeth good an atom's weight will see it then,” (99:7)
“And whoso doeth ill an atom's weight will see it then.” (99:8)
On that Day, the people will depart from the place of reckoning.
In separate groups.
Some taking the path to the right, toward Paradise.
And others taking the path to the left, toward the Fire.
So the one who did good in this world and obeyed Allah will see his deed.
And what Allah has prepared for him on that Day of honor.
For his obedience to Him while in the world.
And the evildoer who disobeyed Allah will see his deed.
The recompense for his deed and what Allah has prepared for him of humiliation and disgrace in Hell.
For his disobedience to Him and his disbelief in Him while in the world.
So whoever did an atom's weight of good in this world.
Will see its reward there.
And whoever did an atom's weight of evil in this world.
Will see its recompense there.
