Summary of the concepts of Ahl al-Sunnah The Last Day and the Great News The phrase "the Great News" appears twice in the Noble Qur'an. One instance is with the definite article "al-" and the other is without it. Allah the Almighty says: "About what are they asking one another? About the Great News" (Qur'an 78:1-2). And Allah the Almighty says: "Say, 'It is great news that you are turning away from'" (Qur'an 38:67). "Al-Naba'" (the News) is a truthful report that imparts knowledge and carries immense benefit. It has been narrated from the salaf that "the Great News" refers to the Day of Resurrection. It has also been narrated that it refers to the Noble Qur'an, and both interpretations are plausible. The report of the Last Day is great due to the terrors and momentous events it contains. And the Noble Qur'an, its report is great in all that it encompasses. And due to what it includes of refuting polytheism and establishing monotheism. And establishing resurrection on the Day of Resurrection and the astonishing horrors therein. The Day of Resurrection has been described as a Great Day in several verses of the Noble Qur'an. Allah the Almighty says: "So woe to the disbelievers from the witnessing of a Great Day" (Qur'an 38:64). And Allah the Almighty says: "Do those not think that they will be resurrected for a Great Day?" (Qur'an 83:4).
