A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
Truly, the only real life is the life of the Hereafter.
The Noble Qur'an is replete with verses describing the abode of the Hereafter.
It details the everlasting bliss therein for those who are obedient.
And the painful torment for the disbelievers and the disobedient.
Among the most explicit verses clarifying the state of the Hereafter in comparison to this world,
Is the saying of Allah the Exalted:
"And this worldly life is not but diversion and amusement."
“This life of the world is but a pastime and a game. Lo! the home of the Hereafter - that is Life, if they but knew.” (29:64)
"If only they knew."
Thus, the true life is the permanent, eternal life.
In which there is neither death nor cessation.
This is how our perspective toward it ought to be.
"If only they knew."
Likewise, Allah the Exalted said:
“Allah enlargeth livelihood for whom He will, and straiteneth (it for whom He will); and they rejoice in the life of the world, whereas the life of the world is but brief comfort as compared with the Hereafter.” (13:26)
The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
"The life of this world, in comparison to the Hereafter,
Is but like one of you dipping this finger of his,"
And he pointed with his index finger into the sea,
"So let him see what it brings back."
Narrated by Muslim.
For the life of this world, no matter how long it extends or lasts,
Is finite and limited.
Whereas the Hereafter is eternal, with no end.
There is no proportion or comparison between that which is finite and limited,
And that which is infinite and extends without end.
