A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the Companions, from among the leaders of the Muhajirun.
I embraced Islam early on.
I was one of the scribes of the Prophet, peace be upon him, and one of his appointed officials.
I was also someone whose supplications were answered.
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, sent me to the people of Oman.
To teach them the laws of Islam.
And he appointed me as governor over Bahrain.
After the death of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
I set out with an army to fight the apostates in Bahrain.
While we were on our journey,
We became exhausted from the intense heat and thirst.
Our mounts were exhausted as well.
For our water skins had run dry.
And there was no water to be found on the road.
This was on a Friday.
When the sun passed its zenith,
I led them in praying two rak'ahs.
Then I raised my hands toward the sky.
And we saw nothing in the sky.
I called upon Allah.
By Allah, I had not yet lowered my hands,
When Allah sent a wind,
And gathered clouds,
And poured out their water,
Until the pools and ravines were filled.
We drank and gave our mounts to drink.
And we replenished our water supply.
When we reached the sea,
We found that the enemy had learned of our arrival.
They had seized the ships.
So we found nothing to transport us to the island.
We stood before the sea, helpless.
I said,
"O people,
Allah has shown you a sign on land,
And He is capable of showing you a sign in the sea."
"I am firmly resolved."
They asked, "What is it?"
I said,
"I am resolved to cross this sea on these horses of ours."
They replied, "By the blessing of Allah,
We are with you."
So I stood on the seashore,
And said,
"O sea,
You flow by the command of Allah,
And we are soldiers in the path of Allah.
I command you to solidify,
So that we may cross to the enemy of Allah."
The water solidified,
And we crossed over it.
The water did not even wet our feet,
Nor the hooves of our mounts.
We fought the enemy and were victorious.
Then we returned, carrying the spoils of war.
And we crossed the sea, walking upon it with our horses just as we had come.
