A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah. Freedom. Freedom is the antithesis of servitude. It implies the realization of one's will. In truth, there is no such thing as absolute freedom from every constraint. It is a well-known saying that a person’s freedom is limited by the freedom of others. By this, they mean that if your freedom infringes upon the rights or freedoms of others, then it is prohibited. However, the correct way to state this is that a person’s freedom is limited by the boundaries of the Shari'ah. For the Shari'ah guarantees the rights of others, and it likewise guarantees your own personal rights, protecting them even from yourself. Above all of this, and preceding it, it has established servitude to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic. Thus, true freedom lies in the perfection of servitude to Allah, the Almighty and Majestic. Whoever is truly a servant of Allah is free from everything else, whether it be people, desires, or whims. Nothing of that kind can enslave him. A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
