00:02:44.669 'By Allah, yes!' 00:02:44.669 --> 00:02:46.669 The man then said: 00:02:46.669 --> 00:02:48.669 'I believe in all that you have brought, 00:02:48.669 --> 00:02:51.669 And I am an emissary of those whom I left behind of my people. 00:02:51.669 --> 00:02:54.669 I am Dimam ibn Tha'labah, 00:02:54.669 --> 00:02:56.669 A brother of the clan of Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr.'" 00:02:56.669 --> 00:03:16.020 He arrived before him, 00:03:16.020 --> 00:03:20.020 Made his camel kneel at the gate of the mosque, tethered it, 00:03:20.020 --> 00:03:22.020 And then entered the mosque 00:03:22.020 --> 00:03:27.020 While the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) was sitting among his Companions. 00:03:27.020 --> 00:03:32.020 Dimam was a sturdy, hairy man with two braids. 00:03:32.020 --> 00:03:38.020 He approached until he stood over the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) who was surrounded by his Companions, 00:03:38.020 --> 00:03:43.020 And asked, 'Which of you is the son of Abd al-Muttalib?' 00:03:43.020 --> 00:03:46.020 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied, 00:03:46.020 --> 00:03:49.180 'I am the son of Abd al-Muttalib.' 00:03:49.180 --> 00:03:52.180 He said, 'O Muhammad!' 00:03:52.180 --> 00:03:55.180 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied, 00:03:55.180 --> 00:03:57.219 'Yes.' 00:03:57.219 --> 00:04:00.219 He said, 'O son of Abd al-Muttalib! truly dispatch you to us as a messenger?' 00:04:27.540 --> 00:04:30.699 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) answered, 00:04:30.699 --> 00:04:33.759 'By Allah, yes!' 00:04:33.759 --> 00:04:36.759 He said, 'I adjure you by Allah, your God, 00:04:36.759 --> 00:04:38.759 The God of those before you, 00:04:38.759 --> 00:04:41.759 And the God of whoever shall come after you: 00:04:41.759 --> 00:04:44.759 Did Allah command you to enjoin upon us 00:04:44.759 --> 00:04:48.259 That we worship Him alone without associating anything with Him, 00:04:48.259 --> 00:04:53.759 And that we cast off these false rivals that our forefathers used to worship beside Him?' 00:04:53.759 --> 00:04:57.819 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied, 00:04:57.819 --> 00:04:59.819 'By Allah, yes!' 00:04:59.819 --> 00:05:04.019 He said, 'I adjure you by Allah, your God, 00:05:04.019 --> 00:05:06.019 The God of those before you, 00:05:06.019 --> 00:05:09.019 And the God of whoever shall come after you: 00:05:09.019 --> 00:05:13.519 Did Allah command you that we perform these five daily prayers?' 00:05:13.519 --> 00:05:17.519 The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) answered, 00:05:17.519 --> 00:05:19.519 'By Allah, yes!' 00:05:19.519 --> 00:05:21.639 He [Ibn Abbas] said: 00:05:21.639 --> 00:05:25.639 Then he proceeded to mention the obligatory duties of Islam, one by one: 00:05:25.639 --> 00:05:28.639 Zakat, fasting, Hajj, 00:05:28.639 --> 00:05:31.639 And all the ordinances of Islam, 00:05:31.639 --> 00:05:37.639 Adjuring him concerning each obligation just as he had adjured him regarding the previous one. 00:05:37.639 --> 00:05:39.639 When he had finished, he declared: 00:05:39.639 --> 00:05:43.639 'I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, 00:05:43.639 --> 00:05:46.639 And I bear witness that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. 00:05:46.639 --> 00:05:49.639 I shall fulfill these obligatory duties 00:05:49.639 --> 00:05:52.639 And shun whatever you have forbidden me, 00:05:52.639 --> 00:05:55.639 Adding nothing and omitting nothing.' 00:05:55.639 --> 00:05:58.639 He then turned around to return to his camel. 00:05:58.639 --> 00:06:03.680 As he turned away, the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 00:06:03.680 --> 00:06:07.680 'If the one with the two braids has spoken the truth, he will surely enter Paradise.' 00:06:07.680 --> 00:06:09.800 He [the narrator] said: 00:06:09.800 --> 00:06:12.800 So he went to his camel, untied its tether, 00:06:12.800 --> 00:06:15.800 And departed until he returned to his people. 00:06:15.800 --> 00:06:17.800 They gathered around him, 00:06:17.800 --> 00:06:21.839 And the very first words he uttered were: 00:06:21.839 --> 00:06:24.839 'Vile are al-Lat and al-Uzza!' 00:06:24.839 --> 00:06:25.839 They cried: 00:06:25.839 --> 00:06:27.839 'Stop, O Dimam! 00:06:27.839 --> 00:06:29.839 Beware of leukoderma and leprosy! 00:06:29.839 --> 00:06:31.839 Beware of madness!' 00:06:31.839 --> 00:06:33.839 He replied: 00:06:33.839 --> 00:06:34.839 'Woe unto you! 00:06:34.839 --> 00:06:38.839 By Allah, they can neither cause harm nor bring benefit. 00:06:38.839 --> 00:06:42.839 Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has indeed sent a Messenger 00:06:42.839 --> 00:06:47.839 And revealed to you a Book through which He has rescued you from your former state. 00:06:47.839 --> 00:06:52.839 I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, having no partner, 00:06:52.839 --> 00:06:55.839 And that Muhammad is His servant and His Messenger. 00:06:55.839 --> 00:07:01.839 I have brought you from him that which he has commanded you to do and that which he has forbidden you.' 00:07:01.839 --> 00:07:02.959 He [the narrator] said: 00:07:02.959 --> 00:07:05.959 By Allah, evening had not fallen upon that very day 00:07:05.959 --> 00:07:10.959 Before every single man and woman in his settlement had embraced Islam. 00:07:10.959 --> 00:07:14.029 Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said: 00:07:14.029 --> 00:07:20.029 'We never heard of an emissary of any people who was more noble than Dimam ibn Tha'labah.'" 00:07:20.029 --> 00:07:24.730 The Abridged
