--> 00:01:03.700 He knows things about me other than what he has said, 00:01:03.700 --> 00:01:05.700 and nothing prevented him from speaking 00:01:05.700 --> 00:01:07.739 except sheer envy!" of Allah, 00:01:21.769 --> 00:01:24.769 I spoke the truth in what I said first, 00:01:24.769 --> 00:01:27.769 and I did not lie in what I said last! 00:01:27.769 --> 00:01:29.769 But I am a man who, 00:01:29.769 --> 00:01:32.769 when pleased, says the best of what he knows, 00:01:32.769 --> 00:01:35.769 and when angered, says the worst of what he finds." 00:01:35.769 --> 00:01:39.769 "Yet I spoke their attempted assassination of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). 00:01:59.099 --> 00:02:04.310 Among them were 'Amir ibn al-Tufayl, 00:02:04.310 --> 00:02:06.310 Arbad ibn Qays, 00:02:06.310 --> 00:02:08.310 and Jabbar ibn Salama. 00:02:08.310 --> 00:02:11.310 These men were the leaders of the tribe 00:02:11.310 --> 00:02:13.310 and their evil ringleaders. 00:02:13.310 --> 00:02:16.310 The enemy of Allah, 'Amir ibn al-Tufayl, advanced 00:02:16.310 --> 00:02:19.310 toward the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) 00:02:19.310 --> 00:02:21.310 intending to act treacherously against him. 00:02:21.310 --> 00:02:23.310 His people had said to him: 00:02:23.310 --> 00:02:25.310 "O 'Amir! 00:02:25.310 --> 00:02:27.310 Indeed, the people have accepted Islam." 00:02:27.310 --> 00:02:29.310 He replied: 00:02:29.310 --> 00:02:31.310 "By Allah, I swore an oath 00:02:31.310 --> 00:02:34.310 that I would not stop until the Arabs follow in my footsteps; 00:02:34.310 --> 00:02:38.310 shall I then follow in the footsteps of this youth from Quraysh?!" 00:02:38.310 --> 00:02:40.310 Then he said to Arbad: 00:02:40.310 --> 00:02:42.310 "When we reach the man, 00:02:42.310 --> 00:02:45.310 I will distract his attention from you; 00:02:45.310 --> 00:02:47.310 so when I do that, 00:02:47.310 --> 00:02:49.310 strike him with your sword!" 00:02:49.310 --> 00:02:53.469 When they came to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), 00:02:53.469 --> 00:02:55.469 'Amir said: 00:02:55.469 --> 00:02:56.469 "O Muhammad, 00:02:56.469 --> 00:02:57.469 grant me a private audience." 00:02:57.469 --> 00:03:00.469 Meaning: "I want to speak with you alone." 00:03:00.469 --> 00:03:03.469 The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) replied: 00:03:03.469 --> 00:03:05.469 "No, by Allah, 00:03:05.469 --> 00:03:07.469 not until you believe in Allah alone." 00:03:07.469 --> 00:03:09.599 He said: "O Muhammad, 00:03:09.599 --> 00:03:11.599 grant me a private audience!" 00:03:11.599 --> 00:03:12.599 He replied: 00:03:12.599 --> 00:03:15.599 "Not until you believe in Allah alone, without any partner." 00:03:15.599 --> 00:03:20.599 When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) refused his request, 00:03:20.599 --> 00:03:21.599 'Amir said to him: 00:03:21.599 --> 00:03:26.599 "By Allah, I will surely fill the land against you with horses and foot soldiers!" 00:03:26.599 --> 00:03:28.599 As 'Amir turned and walked away, 00:03:28.599 --> 00:03:32.599 the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) prayed: 00:03:32.599 --> 00:03:35.599 "O Allah, protect me against 'Amir ibn al-Tufayl as You will." 00:03:35.599 --> 00:03:40.599 When they left the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), 00:03:40.599 --> 00:03:42.599 'Amir said to Arbad: 00:03:42.599 --> 00:03:44.599 "Woe to you, O Arbad! 00:03:44.599 --> 00:03:47.599 Where was that which I commanded you to do? 00:03:47.599 --> 00:03:52.599 By Allah, there was no one on the face of the earth whom I feared more for myself than you, 00:03:52.599 --> 00:03:53.599 but by Allah, 00:03:53.599 --> 00:03:56.599 I shall never fear you after today!" 00:03:56.599 --> 00:03:58.599 Arbad replied to him: 00:03:58.599 --> 00:04:00.599 "May you lose your father! 00:04:00.599 --> 00:04:02.599 Do not be hasty with me. 00:04:02.599 --> 00:04:05.599 By Allah, every time I attempted to carry out what you commanded me, 00:04:05.599 --> 00:04:08.599 you stepped between me and the man! 00:04:08.599 --> 00:04:10.599 Was I supposed to strike you with the sword?!" 00:04:10.599 --> 00:04:13.699 They then set out on their return journey to their homeland. 00:04:13.699 --> 00:04:16.699 While they were on the way, 00:04:16.699 --> 00:04:21.699 Allah afflicted 'Amir ibn al-Tufayl with a plague-bubonic swelling in his neck, 00:04:21.699 --> 00:04:26.699 and Allah Almighty caused him to die in the house of a woman from Banu Salul— 00:04:26.699 --> 00:04:29.699 who were among the most humiliated and weakest of the Arabs. 00:04:29.699 --> 00:04:31.699 'Amir ibn al-Tufayl lamented: 00:04:31.699 --> 00:04:34.699 "A plague-buboe like that of a camel, 00:04:34.699 --> 00:04:37.699 and a death in the house of a Saluli woman?!" 00:04:37.699 --> 00:04:40.699 He then rode out and died along the road. 00:04:40.699 --> 00:04:42.699 It is recorded in Sahih al-Bukhari 00:04:42.699 --> 00:04:47.699 that 'Amir ibn al-Tufayl came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) 00:04:47.699 --> 00:04:50.699 and said to him: 00:04:50.699 --> 00:04:53.699 "I give you three choices: 00:04:53.699 --> 00:04:56.699 you shall rule the nomads of the plains, 00:04:56.699 --> 00:04:58.699 while I rule the town-dwellers; 00:04:58.699 --> 00:05:01.699 or I shall be your successor after you; 00:05:01.699 --> 00:05:03.699 or else I will launch an invasion against you with the Ghatafan tribe, 00:05:03.699 --> 00:05:06.699 leading a thousand reddish-brown horses and a thousand mares." 00:05:06.699 --> 00:05:09.860 Later, he was afflicted with a plague-boil in the house of a woman, 00:05:09.860 --> 00:05:13.860 and he exclaimed: "A plague-boil like the buboe of a young camel, 00:05:13.860 --> 00:05:16.860 in the house of a woman from the tribe of Such-and-Such?! 00:05:16.860 --> 00:05:18.860 Bring me my horse!" 00:05:18.860 --> 00:05:21.860 So he mounted it and died on the back of his horse. 00:05:21.860 --> 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) 00:05:37.259 --> 00:05:42.259 that the delegation of 'Abd al-Qays came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). 00:05:42.259 --> 00:05:45.259 He asked them: "Who are these people?" or "Which delegation is this?" 00:05:45.259 --> 00:05:47.259 They replied: "From the tribe of Rabi'ah." 00:05:47.259 --> 00:05:50.259 He said: between us and you lies this tribe of the disbelievers of Mudar, 00:05:59.259 --> 00:06:03.259 and we cannot reach you except during the sacred month. 00:06:03.259 --> 00:06:05.259 So give us a decisive command 00:06:05.259 --> 00:06:08.259 that we may adhere to it, convey it to those we left behind, 00:06:08.259 --> 00:06:10.259 and by which we may enter Paradise." 00:06:10.259 --> 00:06:13.300 He (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 00:06:13.300 --> 00:06:17.300 "I command you with four things and forbid you from four: 00:06:17.300 --> 00:06:20.300 I command you to believe in Allah alone. 00:06:20.300 --> 00:06:23.300 Do you know what belief in Allah alone entails? 00:06:23.300 --> 00:06:26.300 It is testifying that there is no god but Allah 00:06:26.300 --> 00:06:28.300 and that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, 00:06:28.300 --> 00:06:30.300 establishing prayer, 00:06:30.300 --> 00:06:32.300 paying zakat, 00:06:32.300 --> 00:06:34.300 fasting Ramadan, 00:06:34.300 --> 00:06:36.300 and giving one-fifth of the war booty. 00:06:36.300 --> 00:06:38.300 And I forbid you from four things: 00:06:38.300 --> 00:06:41.300 [using vessels made of] gourds (ad-dubba'), green glazed jars (al-hantam), 00:06:41.300 --> 00:06:43.300 hollowed palm-stumps (an-naqir), and pitch-smeared vessels (al-muzaffat). 00:06:43.300 --> 00:06:47.300 Memorize these commands and convey them to those behind you." 00:06:47.300 --> 00:06:49.300 In a narration by Muslim, 00:06:49.300 --> 00:06:52.300 they said: "O Messenger of Allah, 00:06:52.300 --> 00:06:54.300 how do you know what an-naqir is?" 00:06:54.300 --> 00:06:56.300 He replied: "Indeed I do; 00:06:56.300 --> 00:06:58.300 it is a palm trunk that you hollow out, 00:06:58.300 --> 00:07:00.300 into which you throw dates, 00:07:00.300 --> 00:07:04.300 then you pour water over them until it ferments; 00:07:04.300 --> 00:07:06.300 when it settles, you drink it, 00:07:06.300 --> 00:07:10.300 to the extent that one of you might strike his cousin with a sword!" 00:07:10.300 --> 00:07:14.300 Among the delegation was a man who bore a sword scar from just such an incident; 00:07:14.300 --> 00:07:20.300 he said: "I used to conceal my scar out of shyness before the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him)." 00:07:20.300 --> 00:07:23.300 They asked: "In what vessels should we drink, O Messenger of Allah?" 00:07:23.300 --> 00:07:26.300 He said: "In leather waterskins 00:07:26.300 --> 00:07:29.300 whose mouths are tied shut." 00:07:29.300 --> 00:07:31.329 They said: "O Messenger of Allah, 00:07:31.329 --> 00:07:34.329 our land abounds in field rats, 00:07:34.329 --> 00:07:37.329 which leave no leather waterskin intact." 00:07:37.329 --> 00:07:40.329 He replied: "Even if the field rats gnaw them," 00:07:40.329 --> 00:07:43.329 repeating it two or three times. 00:07:43.329 --> 00:07:46.329 Then he said to Al-Ashajj, the chief of 'Abd al-Qays, 00:07:46.329 --> 00:07:48.329 who was one of the delegates: 00:07:48.329 --> 00:07:51.329 "You possess two qualities that Allah loves: 00:07:51.329 --> 00:07:53.329 forbearance and deliberate calmness." 00:07:53.329 --> grants me leadership after him, I will follow him." 00:08:18.350 --> 00:08:21.350 He arrived with a vast number of his people. 00:08:21.350 --> 00:08:24.350 The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) walked up to him, 00:08:24.350 --> 00:08:27.350 accompanied by Thabit ibn Qays ibn Shammas, 00:08:27.350 --> 00:08:30.350 and carrying in his hand 00:08:30.350 --> 00:08:32.350 a piece of a dry date-palm branch. 00:08:32.350 --> 00:08:35.350 He stood over Musaylimah 00:08:35.350 --> 00:08:37.350 and said to him: 00:08:37.350 --> 00:08:41.350 "Even if you were to ask me for this dry palm-twig, I would not give it to you. 00:08:41.350 --> 00:08:43.350 You cannot bypass the decree of Allah concerning you, 00:08:43.350 --> 00:08:45.350 and if you turn your back— 00:08:45.350 --> 00:08:46.350 meaning, away from Islam— 00:08:46.350 --> 00:08:48.350 Allah will surely destroy you! 00:08:48.350 --> 00:08:52.350 Indeed, I see that you are the very person regarding whom I was shown what I was shown in my vision. 00:08:52.350 --> 00:08:55.350 Here is Thabit, who will answer you on my behalf." 00:08:55.350 --> 00:08:58.450 He then turned away and left him. 00:08:58.450 --> inspired to me in the dream to blow upon them, 00:09:29.450 --> 00:09:32.450 so I blew upon them, and they flew away. 00:09:32.450 --> 00:09:36.450 I interpreted them as two impostors who would appear after me.'" 00:09:36.450 --> 00:09:39.450 On the authority of Abu Hurairah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: 00:09:39.450 --> 00:09:43.450 The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 00:09:43.450 --> 00:09:45.450 "While I was sleeping, 00:09:45.450 --> 00:09:48.450 I was brought the treasures of the earth, 00:09:48.450 --> 00:09:51.450 and two golden bracelets were placed in my hands. 00:09:51.450 --> 00:09:54.450 That distressed me and made me anxious, 00:09:54.450 --> 00:09:57.450 but it was revealed to me that I should blow on them, 00:09:57.450 --> 00:09:59.450 so I blew on them and they flew away. 00:09:59.450 --> 00:10:03.450 I interpreted them as the two liars between whom I am placed: 00:10:03.450 --> 00:10:07.450 the ruler of Sanaa and the ruler of Al-Yamamah, 00:10:07.450 --> 00:10:09.450 namely Al-Aswad al-Ansi 00:10:09.450 --> 00:10:11.450 and Musaylimah the Liar." 00:10:11.450 --> 00:10:16.450 Despite what Musaylimah said to the Prophet (peace be upon him), 00:10:16.450 --> 00:10:18.450 and despite what 'Amir ibn al-Tufayl said, 00:10:18.450 --> 00:10:21.450 nevertheless, the Prophet (peace be upon him) 00:10:21.450 --> they embraced Islam and became excellent Muslims. 00:11:01.269 --> 00:11:04.269 Then the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 00:11:04.269 --> 00:11:07.269 "No Arab man has ever been described to me as possessing virtue, 00:11:07.269 --> 00:11:11.269 and then came to me, except that I found him to be less than what was said about him— 00:11:11.269 --> 00:11:13.269 except Zayd al-Khayl; 00:11:13.269 among eighty—or sixty—mounted men. 00:12:30.460 --> 00:12:35.460 They entered upon the Prophet of Allah (peace be upon him) in his mosque, 00:12:35.460 --> 00:12:38.460 having combed their long hair and armed themselves. 00:12:38.460 --> 00:12:40.460 When they entered before him, 00:12:40.460 --> 00:12:44.460 the Prophet (peace be upon him) asked them: 00:12:44.460 --> 00:12:46.460 "Have you not embraced Islam?" 00:12:46.460 --> 00:12:48.460 They replied, "Yes, indeed." 00:12:48.460 --> 00:12:52.460 He said, "Then why is this silk around your necks?" 00:12:52.460 --> 00:12:54.460 So they tore it off; 00:12:54.460 --> 00:12:57.519 they tore it off, stripped it away, and discarded it. 00:12:57.519 --> 00:12:59.519 Al-Ash'ath said: 00:12:59.519 --> 00:13:03.519 "We came to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) as the delegation of Kindah, 00:13:03.519 --> 00:13:07.519 and they regarded me as the most noble among them. 00:13:07.519 --> 00:13:09.519 So I said, 'O Messenger of Allah, 00:13:09.519 --> 00:13:11.519 are you not from us?' 00:13:11.519 --> 00:13:15.519 He replied, 'No, we are the descendants of Al-Nadr ibn Kinanah; 00:13:15.519 --> 00:13:17.519 we do not trace our mother's lineage falsely, 00:13:17.519 --> 00:13:19.519 nor do we disown our father.'" 00:13:19.519 --> 00:13:26.580 That was because the Prophet (peace be upon him) had a grandmother from Kindah. have softer hearts than yours." 00:13:47.480 --> 00:13:49.480 When the Ash'arites arrived, 00:13:49.480 --> 00:13:51.480 they began chanting war poetry, saying: 00:13:51.480 --> 00:13:53.480 "Tomorrow
