WEBVTT 00:00:00.460 --> 00:00:03.459 Pause. 00:00:03.459 --> 00:00:08.460 Get to know the Companions, the scholars, and the noble figures. 00:00:12.460 --> 00:00:16.460 A new challenge: Who am I? 00:00:16.460 --> 00:00:24.109 I am one of the Companions, from the tribe of Ghifar. 00:00:24.109 --> 00:00:29.109 I was a monotheist even in the Jahiliyyah (pre-Islamic era of ignorance), and I never worshipped idols. 00:00:29.109 --> 00:00:32.109 I was well known for my courage and bravery. 00:00:32.109 --> 00:00:36.109 I forbade myself alcohol, intoxication, and divining arrows. 00:00:36.109 --> 00:00:40.109 I was a man of sound intellect and deep reflection. 00:00:40.109 --> 00:00:46.880 Word reached me that a man had appeared in Mecca claiming to be a prophet. 00:00:46.880 --> 00:00:52.880 So I said to my brother Unays, "Go to this man and bring me news of him." 00:00:52.880 --> 00:00:56.880 He went and met him, then returned. 00:00:56.880 --> 00:00:58.880 I asked him, "What news do you have?" 00:00:59.880 --> 00:01:06.879 He said, "By Allah, I saw a man commanding good and forbidding evil." 00:01:06.879 --> 00:01:10.980 I said to him, "You have not satisfied my curiosity with this report." 00:01:10.980 --> 00:01:15.980 So I took a traveling bag and a staff, and set out for Mecca. 00:01:15.980 --> 00:01:19.980 I did not know the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:01:19.980 --> 00:01:22.980 and I disliked asking anyone about him. 00:01:22.980 --> 00:01:25.980 Then 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, passed by me. 00:01:25.980 --> 00:01:28.980 He said, "It seems the man is a stranger." 00:01:28.980 --> 00:01:30.980 I said, "Yes." 00:01:30.980 --> 00:01:33.980 He said, "Then come along to my home." 00:01:33.980 --> 00:01:38.980 So I went with him, neither of us asking the other anything. 00:01:38.980 --> 00:01:43.980 When morning came, I went to the Mosque to ask about him, 00:01:43.980 --> 00:01:47.980 but no one would tell me anything about him. 00:01:47.980 --> 00:01:51.980 In the evening, 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, passed by me again and said, 00:01:51.980 --> 00:01:55.980 "Has the time not come for the man to know his dwelling yet?" 00:01:55.980 --> 00:01:57.980 I said, "No." 00:01:57.980 --> 00:01:59.980 He said, "Then come with me." 00:01:59.980 --> 00:02:05.980 He then asked, "What is your matter, and what brought you to this town?" 00:02:05.980 --> 00:02:11.009 I told him, "If you keep my secret, I will tell you." 00:02:11.009 --> 00:02:14.009 He said, "I will do so." 00:02:14.009 --> 00:02:21.009 I said to him, "Word reached me that a man has appeared here claiming to be a prophet, 00:02:21.009 --> 00:02:23.009 and I wished to meet him." 00:02:23.009 --> 00:02:27.009 He said to me, "Indeed, you have been rightly guided. 00:02:27.009 --> 00:02:31.139 This is my way to him, so follow me." 00:02:31.139 --> 00:02:37.139 So I went with him until we entered upon the Prophet, peace be upon him. 00:02:37.139 --> 00:02:41.139 I said to him, "Present Islam to me." 00:02:41.139 --> 00:02:45.139 He presented it to me, and I embraced Islam on the spot. 00:02:45.139 --> 00:02:50.139 He said to me, "Keep this matter secret and return to your land; 00:02:50.139 --> 00:02:53.139 perhaps Allah will benefit them through you. 00:02:53.139 --> 00:02:57.139 And when news reaches you of our victory, then come to us." 00:02:57.139 --> 00:03:00.229 So I set out, returning to my people, 00:03:00.229 --> 00:03:02.229 until I came to my brother. 00:03:02.229 --> 00:03:05.229 He said to me, "What have you done?" 00:03:05.229 --> 00:03:09.229 I said, "I have embraced Islam and believed." 00:03:09.229 --> 00:03:13.300 He said, "I have no aversion to your religion; 00:03:13.300 --> 00:03:16.300 I, too, have embraced Islam with you and believed." 00:03:17.300 --> 00:03:21.330 Then we went to our mother and informed her of our news. 00:03:21.330 --> 00:03:25.330 She said, "I have no aversion to the religion of you two; 00:03:25.330 --> 00:03:29.330 I, too, have embraced Islam and believed alongside you." 00:03:29.330 --> 00:03:32.330 Then I called my tribe, Ghifar, to Islam. 00:03:32.330 --> 00:03:36.330 Some of them accepted Islam, while the rest said, 00:03:36.330 --> 00:03:40.330 "When the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, prevails, 00:03:40.330 --> 00:03:43.129 we will embrace Islam." 00:03:43.129 --> 00:03:46.129 So when the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, arrived 00:03:46.129 --> 00:03:48.129 in Medina, 00:03:48.129 --> 00:03:50.129 I set out, migrating to him. 00:03:50.129 --> 00:03:53.129 The remainder of my tribe then embraced Islam, 00:03:53.129 --> 00:03:57.129 and I brought them all to the Prophet, peace be upon him. 00:03:57.129 --> 00:04:00.129 Then the tribe of Aslam came as well, 00:04:00.129 --> 00:04:02.129 and they said, "O Messenger of Allah, 00:04:02.129 --> 00:04:04.129 our brothers— 00:04:04.129 --> 00:04:07.159 we accept Islam upon that which they have accepted." 00:04:07.159 --> 00:04:11.159 Thereupon the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said: 00:04:11.159 --> 00:04:12.159 "Ghifar— 00:04:12.159 --> 00:04:14.159 may Allah forgive them;
