The Forty Hadiths of al-Nawawi
On the authority of Abu Hamzah
Anas Ibn Malik, may Allah be pleased with him,
the servant of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
from the Prophet, peace be upon him, who said:
"None of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself."
Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
This hadith elucidates a magnificent principle for building a Muslim society,
which is that true faith
is perfected by loving goodness for others
just as we love it for ourselves.
For the sincere believer does not envy or harbor hatred,
but rather strives to benefit people and shares goodness with them.
The hadith teaches
that the righteousness of the hearts is the foundation of societal unity,
and that the spread of love and altruism among Muslims
is a cause for the strength of faith and the cohesion of the Ummah.
