A new challenge: Who am I?
I am among the Emigrants from the Companions.
I am one of the maternal uncles of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
I embraced Islam early on.
I participated alongside him in all the battles.
I was one of the heroes and commanders in the battles.
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, saw me on one occasion,
and said, "This is my maternal uncle,
so let any man show me his maternal uncle!"
On the day of Uhud, we were present for the fighting.
When we saw the host of polytheists,
'Abdullah ibn Jahsh, may Allah be pleased with him, said to me,
"Shall we not go aside and pray to Allah?"
So we stepped aside to a quiet area.
I prayed, saying:
"O Allah, when we meet the enemy tomorrow,
match me against a man of fierce prowess,
and intense fury,
that I may fight him for Your sake and he may fight me,
then grant me victory over him,
so that I may kill him and take his spoils."
'Abdullah ibn Jahsh, may Allah be pleased with him, said "Ameen,"
then he prayed, saying:
"O Allah, grant me tomorrow
a man of fierce prowess
and intense fury,
that I may fight him for Your sake and he may fight me,
then he may kill me,
take me, and cut off my nose and ears.
So when I meet You tomorrow,
You will say to me:
'O 'Abdullah,
for what were your nose and ears cut off?'
And I will reply: 'For You and Your Messenger.'
And You will say: 'You have spoken the truth.'"
By Allah, the supplication of 'Abdullah ibn Jahsh, may Allah be pleased with him,
was better than my supplication.
For I saw him at the end of the day,
and indeed, his nose and ears
were strung together on a thread.
