Causes of temptation
Imam Ibn Al-Qayyim, may God Almighty have mercy on him, sufficed with mentioning the causes of temptations and falling into them
He referred it to two major reasons, under which there are many branches
The two reasons are suspicions and desires
He says, may God Almighty have mercy on him
There are two types of temptation
The temptation of doubts is the greater of the two temptations
And the temptation of desires
They may be combined for the slave, or he may be alone with one of them
The temptation of doubts is a result of weak insight and lack of knowledge
Especially if this is coupled with corruption of intent and the occurrence of passion
There is a great turmoil and a great calamity
So say whatever you want about misguidance with bad intentions
The ruler is guided by his own desires
With his weak insight and lack of knowledge of what God sent His Messenger with
He is one of those whom God Almighty said about them
They follow nothing but conjecture and what their souls desire
This temptation leads to disbelief and hypocrisy
It is the temptation of hypocrites
And the temptation of the people of innovations depends on the levels of their innovations
All of them were invented due to the temptation of doubts
In which they suspected truth of falsehood and guidance of error
The only way to escape from this temptation is to strip away the followers of the Messenger
And his arbitration in the importance of religion and its glory
His outward and inward beliefs and deeds
His facts and laws
This temptation sometimes arises from a corrupt understanding
Sometimes it is a false report
Sometimes it is an established right that is hidden from a man and he does not obtain it
Sometimes it is for a corrupt purpose and it is followed
It is caused by blindness in insight and corruption in the will
The second type of temptation
The temptation of desires
It is the temptation that is caused by passion
It is not ignorance of the truth or suspicion of it
Rather, the perpetrator of this temptation is aware of the truth
But he turned away from it and preferred someone else
What his heart desires and his soul desires
And the root of every temptation
Rather, it is prioritizing opinion over Sharia law
Passion over reason
The first is the origin of the temptation of doubts
The second is the origin of the temptation of desires
It was mentioned in a mursal hadith
Some scholars have weakened it
But its meaning is correct
God loves critical sight
When suspicions arise
He loves a perfect mind
When desires come
So
The root of all temptations
Either suspicion or lust
If temptations agree
Lack of knowledge and ignorance of the truth
Or suspicion of a corrupt interpretation
Its owner fell into temptation
Because of suspicion
If he agrees, knowing the truth of the servant
But his patience with desires is weak
He fell into temptation because of lust
Not suspicion
The third type of causes of temptation
It is a mixture of suspicion and lust
That is, whoever falls into temptation
He does not admit that he is impatient
He was overcome by passion
But he tries too hard
Inference on his own whim
A legal suspicion that justifies his doing what he did
That is, he does not acknowledge his mistakes and whims
Rather, he claims that he is right based on his suspicion
From a corrupt interpretation or weak evidence
Falling into temptation has other secondary reasons
Including haste and haste
And abandoning Istikhara and consulting
And sitting with the people of the world, immorality and innovations
And reading their books and articles
Being absorbed in the world and relying on it
And its preference for the afterlife
