From my youth, I loved seeking knowledge.

I was a healer who treated people and performed ruqyah to cure them of demonic possession.

Because of that, I had acquired some knowledge of the practices of soothsayers and sorcerers.

I was a friend of the Prophet, peace be upon him, during the pre-Islamic era.

I once arrived in Makkah to perform the 'Umrah.

I heard the disbelievers of Quraysh saying that Muhammad was a madman.

I was stunned by what I heard and said to myself,

"If I were to go to this man whom they claim is mad,

perhaps I could heal him." So I went to him and said,

"O Muhammad, I perform ruqyah for these spirits,

and Allah heals whomever He wills at my hands.

Would you like me to perform ruqyah for you?"

The Prophet, peace be upon him, replied,

"Indeed, all praise is due to Allah; we praise Him and seek His aid.

Whoever Allah guides, none can lead astray,

and whoever He leaves to stray, none can guide.

I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner,

and that Muhammad is His servant and messenger."

Then, when I heard those words,

I sat up straight and said,

"Repeat these words of yours to me."

He, peace be upon him, repeated them three times.

I said, "By Allah, I have heard the words of soothsayers,

I have heard the words of sorcerers,

and I have heard the words of poets,

yet I have never heard words like these."

"Extend your hand so that I may pledge allegiance to you in Islam."

He extended his hand, and I pledged my allegiance.

Then the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said to me,

"And do you pledge on behalf of your people as well?"

I replied, "Yes, and on behalf of my people."

So I pledged allegiance to Islam for myself and for my people.

I returned to my tribe and invited them to Islam,

and they all embraced it. So, who am I?
