A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
Anger.
Anger is a live coal ignited in the heart of the son of Adam.
It drives him toward recklessness and committing evil.
For this reason, the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
"The strong person is not the one who can wrestle others down;
rather, the strong person is the one who controls himself when angry."
Agreed upon.
And he said to the man who asked him for advice:
"Do not become angry."
He repeated this several times.
He said, "Do not become angry."
However, this prohibited anger
is that which is for one's own sake, seeking vengeance when one is harmed.
As for anger out of zeal for the sacred boundaries of Allah when they are violated,
that is not vengeance for one's own sake.
Rather, it is what drives a person to defend and protect the sacred boundaries of Allah.
As ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, said regarding the Prophet, peace be upon him:
"The Messenger of Allah never took revenge for his own sake,
unless a sacred boundary of Allah was violated,
in which case he would take revenge for the sake of Allah."
