A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
The purity, precision, and clarity of Tawhid.
Tawhid is the purest, most precise, and most refined of all things.
Even the slightest thing can scratch it, affect it, and diminish its splendor.
Yet, there are those whose Tawhid is vast and magnificent.
It may be permeated by many things that cloud it,
Whether through a word, a fleeting glance, or a hidden desire.
It is like a large body of water that does not harbor impurities.
Consequently, one whose Tawhid is lesser than that of the person of great Tawhid may be deceived,
Thinking that their own Tawhid can withstand such scratches and disturbances.
Yet, these things affect them profoundly.
In contrast, the person of pure Tawhid
Becomes aware early on of anything that might defile their Tawhid, however slight.
They quickly remedy it and turn back from what they have fallen into.
This was the state of the Companions, may Allah be pleased with them,
And the righteous salaf who followed them.
It was said of them that their sins were few,
So they knew exactly where they had faltered.
The clearest example of this is 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him,
Who opposed the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah and questioned the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, regarding it.
Yet, he soon felt the deepest regret for having done so.
He continued to give charity, fast, pray, and manumit slaves,
Fearing that opposition and seeking atonement for it.
Meanwhile, one weak in faith and Tawhid does not possess such awareness,
And thus does not turn back from the actions that scratch their Tawhid.
For the person of strong Tawhid and many good deeds
Is held to a standard that one without such Tawhid and good deeds is not.
Therefore, let a person be mindful of their Tawhid,
And protect it from everything that might scratch it,
So that they may attain the greatest fruit of Tawhid:
Deliverance from the Fire and entry into the Gardens of Paradise.
