to shepherd sheep for a Jewish man, 00:08:18.170 --> 00:08:21.170 and I came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:08:21.170 --> 00:08:24.170 while he was besieging some of the fortresses of Khaybar. 00:08:24.170 --> 00:08:26.170 I said, 00:08:26.170 --> 00:08:27.170 "O Messenger of Allah, 00:08:27.170 --> 00:08:29.170 present Islam to me." 00:08:29.170 --> 00:08:31.170 So he presented it to me, 00:08:31.170 --> 00:08:33.169 and I embraced Islam. 00:08:33.169 --> 00:08:36.169 And the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, 00:08:36.169 --> 00:08:39.169 never looked down upon anyone. 00:08:39.169 --> 00:08:40.169 I said, 00:08:40.169 --> 00:08:42.169 "O Messenger of Allah, 00:08:42.169 --> 00:08:45.169 I am a hired laborer for the owner of these sheep, 00:08:45.169 --> 00:08:47.169 and they are a trust placed in my charge, 00:08:47.169 --> 00:08:49.169 so what should I do with them?" 00:08:49.169 --> 00:08:53.200 The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said, 00:08:53.200 --> 00:08:55.200 "Strike them in their faces, 00:08:55.200 --> 00:08:58.200 and they will return to their owner." 00:08:58.200 --> 00:09:01.200 So I stood up, took a handful of dust, 00:09:01.200 --> 00:09:04.200 threw it in their faces, 00:09:04.200 --> 00:09:05.200 and said, 00:09:05.200 --> 00:09:08.200 "Return to your owner!" 00:09:08.200 --> 00:09:12.200 They turned back together as though a drover were driving them, 00:09:12.200 --> 00:09:15.200 until they entered the fortress. 00:09:15.200 --> 00:09:18.190 Then I stood up from my place 00:09:18.190 --> 00:09:20.190 and advanced toward that fortress 00:09:20.190 --> 00:09:23.190 to fight alongside the Muslims. 00:09:23.190 --> 00:09:26.190 A stone struck me and killed me, 00:09:26.190 --> 00:11:47.159 --> 00:11:49.159 I would never follow him." 00:11:49.159 --> 00:11:51.990 But when the armies clashed 00:11:51.990 --> 00:11:54.990 and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) dismounted 00:11:54.990 --> 00:11:56.990 from his mule, 00:11:56.990 --> 00:11:57.990 I drew close to him 00:11:57.990 --> 00:12:00.990 and raised my sword to strike him with it, 00:12:00.990 --> 00:12:02.990 but a blaze of fire flared before me 00:12:02.990 --> 00:12:04.990 that nearly consumed me. 00:12:04.990 --> 00:12:08.990 Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) 00:12:39.019 that I would gladly have shielded him with my own life. 00:12:39.019 --> 00:12:43.019 By Allah, had I met my own father alive, I would have killed him. 00:12:43.019 --> 00:12:45.250 When the fighting subsided, 00:12:45.250 --> 00:12:48.250 the Prophet (peace be upon him) said to me, 00:12:48.250 --> 00:12:50.250 "What Allah willed for you 00:12:50.250 --> 00:12:53.250 was far better than what you willed for yourself." 00:12:53.250 --> 00:12:56.250 Then he informed me of everything that had been in my heart, 00:12:56.250 --> 00:12:59.250 which no one had known 00:12:59.250 --> mention what I saw to anyone. 00:14:52.750 --> 00:14:55.750 We were routed and returned to Mecca, 00:14:55.750 --> 00:14:57.750 where we remained 00:14:57.750 --> 00:15:00.750 while the Quraysh were embracing Islam man by man, 00:15:00.750 --> 00:15:03.750 yet I still remained in polytheism. 00:15:03.750 --> 00:15:07.649 When the Day of al-Hudaybiyyah came, 00:15:07.649 --> 00:15:09.649 I attended and witnessed the treaty, 00:15:09.649 --> 00:15:12.649 and I helped negotiate it until it was concluded; 00:15:12.649 --> 00:15:15.649 all the while I wished to accept Islam, 00:15:15.649 --> 00:15:18.649 but Allah willed otherwise until His appointed time. 00:15:18.649 --> 00:15:21.649 When we wrote the Treaty of al-Hudaybiyyah, 00:15:21.649 --> 00:15:24.649 I was one of its witnesses. 00:15:24.649 --> 00:15:28.809 Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) arrived 00:15:28.809 --> 00:15:30.809 for the Compensatory 'Umrah ('Umrat al-Qada'), 00:15:30.809 --> 00:15:32.809 and the Quraysh evacuated Mecca. 00:15:32.809 --> 00:15:35.809 When the three days elapsed, 00:15:35.809 --> 00:15:38.809 Suhayl ibn 'Amr and I approached 00:15:38.809 --> 00:15:42.809 and said, "O Muhammad, your agreed time has expired, 00:15:42.809 --> 00:15:45.809 so depart from our land." 00:15:45.809 --> 00:15:49.809 Thereupon the Prophet (peace be upon him) commanded Bilal, 00:15:49.809 --> 00:15:51.809 who called out to the people, 00:15:51.809 --> 00:15:53.809 "Let not the sun set 00:15:53.809 --> 00:15:56.809 while any Muslim remains in Mecca." 00:15:56.809 --> 00:15:59.769 When the Conquest of Mecca took place, 00:15:59.769 --> 00:16:01.769 I was seized with immense fear 00:16:01.769 --> 00:16:03.769 and fled. 00:16:03.769 --> 00:16:06.769 But Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) caught up with me, 00:16:06.769 --> 00:16:09.769 and he had been a close friend of mine during the Jahiliyyah. 00:16:09.769 --> 00:16:12.769 He asked, "What is the matter with you?" 00:16:12.769 --> 00:16:15.769 I replied, "I am terrified." 00:16:15.769 --> 00:16:18.769 He said to me, "Do not fear, 00:16:18.769 --> 00:16:21.769 for he is the most righteous and dutiful of men, 00:16:21.769 --> 00:16:23.769 and you have my protection, 00:16:23.769 --> 00:16:25.769 so come with me." 00:16:25.769 --> 00:16:27.769 So I returned with him, 00:16:27.769 --> 00:16:30.769 and he brought me before the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), 00:16:30.769 --> 00:16:33.769 having taught me to say, 00:16:33.769 --> 00:16:36.769 "Peace be upon you, O Prophet, 00:16:36.769 --> 00:16:39.769 and the mercy of Allah and His blessings." 00:16:39.769 --> 00:16:41.769 Then I said, 00:16:41.769 --> 00:16:44.799 "I testify that there is no deity worthy of worship ransom a necklace that my mother Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her, had gifted me on my wedding day. 00:35:36.980 --> 00:35:40.980 When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) saw it, 00:35:40.980 --> 00:35:41.980 his heart softened with deep compassion for me, 00:35:41.980 --> 00:35:46.980 and he interceded for my husband so that he might be released without a ransom, bow and arrows, 00:36:15.260 --> 00:36:18.260 and set out with me in broad daylight, 00:36:18.260 --> 00:36:21.260 in full view and earshot of Quraysh. 00:36:21.260 --> 00:36:24.260 The people were enraged and pursued us, 00:36:24.260 --> 00:36:27.260 terrifying me inside my howdah 00:36:27.260 --> 00:36:28.260 until it fell, 00:36:28.260 --> 00:36:31.260 and I miscarried the child I was carrying. 00:36:31.260 --> 00:36:34.389 At that moment, Kinanah scattered his arrows 00:36:34.389 --> 00:36:37.389 and swore that no one would approach me 00:36:37.389 --> 00:36:40.389 without him shooting an arrow straight into his neck. 00:36:40.389 --> 00:36:43.389 He was an unerring marksman, 00:36:43.389 --> 00:36:45.389 so the men backed off. 00:36:45.389 --> 00:36:47.389 Then Abu Sufyan participated in the military expeditions with the Prophet (peace be upon him) due to my young age, 00:39:56.059 --> 00:40:01.059 but I watched the Muslims preparing for the expedition of Tabuk, 00:40:01.059 --> 00:40:04.059 making preparations for a long journey. 00:40:04.059 --> 00:40:10.059 I noticed Al-Julas holding back sluggishly from mobilizing, and I was bewildered by that. 00:40:10.059 --> 00:40:14.099 One day, I entered upon him and heard him say, 00:40:14.099 --> 00:40:21.099 "If Muhammad is telling the truth in what he says, then we are worse than donkeys!" 00:40:21.099 --> 00:40:26.130 I was shocked by his statement and filled with intense anger. 00:40:26.130 --> 00:40:29.130 I hastened to respond to him, saying, 00:40:29.130 --> 00:40:36.130 "By Allah, O Julas, you are among the dearest of people to me and the most generous toward me, 00:40:36.130 --> 00:40:41.130 but you have just uttered a statement that would bring harm upon you if I were to spread it, 00:40:41.130 --> 00:40:46.130 and if I were to keep silent about it, I would betray my religion and destroy my own soul. 00:40:46.130 --> 00:40:50.130 Truly, the right of religion is foremost in loyalty, 00:40:50.130 --> 00:40:56.449 and I will certainly inform the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) of what you have said." 00:40:56.449 --> 00:41:02.449 I went to the Prophet (peace be upon him) and informed him of what Al-Julas had said. 00:41:02.449 --> 00:41:08.449 The Prophet (peace be upon him) sent for him and summoned him to appear. 00:41:08.449 --> 00:41:14.449 Al-Julas came and swore by Allah that he had never said those words, 00:41:14.449 --> 00:41:16.449 accusing me of lying. 00:41:16.449 --> 00:41:20.449 The people then began looking at me with suspicion, 00:41:20.449 --> 00:41:25.639 and the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) remained silent. 00:41:25.639 --> 00:41:29.639 As for me, the blood rushed to my face, 00:41:29.639 --> 00:41:32.639 and my eyes welled up with tears. 00:41:32.639 --> 00:41:35.639 Thereupon, Al-Julas said, 00:41:35.639 --> 00:41:39.639 "What I have told you, O Messenger of Allah, is the absolute truth, 00:41:39.639 --> 00:41:42.639 and if you wish, we can swear an oath before you, 00:41:42.639 --> 00:41:45.639 and I swear by Allah 00:41:45.639 --> 00:41:49.639 that I did not say anything of what this boy accuses me of." 00:41:49.639 --> 00:41:54.900 At that very moment, divine revelation descended upon the Prophet (peace be upon him), 00:41:54.900 --> 00:41:56.900 and everyone fell completely
