Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.” (5:3) 00:05:17.810 --> 00:05:26.439 Allah has forbidden to you, O believers, dead animals whose soul has departed without ritual slaughter; 00:05:26.439 --> 00:05:33.240 spilled blood; and the flesh of swine, whether domestic or wild; 00:05:33.240 --> 00:05:39.839 that over which a name other than Allah's was invoked; the strangled animal that chokes until it dies; 00:05:39.839 --> 00:05:45.839 the animal killed by a blow, which is struck until it is incapacitated and dies; 00:05:46.040 --> 00:05:52.439 and animals that die from falling from a mountain, into a well, or otherwise; 00:05:52.439 --> 00:05:58.639 the sheep gored by another that dies from the goring without ritual slaughter; 00:05:58.639 --> 00:06:03.839 and what wild beasts have eaten, except for game caught by trained hunting animals, 00:06:03.839 --> 00:06:06.839 unless you purify it by ritual slaughter before it dies. 00:06:06.839 --> 00:06:10.839 Also forbidden to you is that which was slaughtered upon idol altars, 00:06:10.839 --> 00:06:15.839 and seeking knowledge of what has been allotted to you or not allotted by using divining arrows. 00:06:15.839 --> 00:06:22.839 That was because during the Pre-Islamic Period of Ignorance, whenever one of them intended to travel, go on a raid, or the like, 00:06:22.839 --> 00:06:25.839 he would shuffle the divining arrows. 00:06:25.839 --> 00:06:31.839 These were arrows upon some of which was written: "My Lord has forbidden me," 00:06:31.839 --> 00:06:34.839 and upon others: "My Lord has commanded me." 00:06:34.839 --> 00:06:39.839 If the arrow drawn was the one inscribed with "My Lord has commanded me," 00:06:39.839 --> 00:06:42.839 he proceeded with whatever he intended; 00:06:42.839 --> 00:06:46.839 but if the arrow drawn was the one inscribed with "My Lord has forbidden me," 00:06:46.839 --> 00:06:49.839 he desisted from proceeding with it and refrained. 00:06:49.839 --> 00:06:52.839 These practices mentioned 00:06:52.839 --> 00:06:57.839 constitute a departure from Allah's command and obedience to Him, entering into what He forbade and warned against. 00:06:57.839 --> 00:07:01.870 Now, the hopes of the hostile factions, the disbelievers, and the deniers have been severed— 00:07:01.870 --> 00:07:04.870 O believers—regarding turning you away from your religion. 00:07:04.870 --> 00:07:06.870 So do not fear them, 00:07:06.870 --> 00:07:09.870 nor dread that they will prevail over you; 00:07:09.870 --> 00:07:13.870 rather, fear Me if you disobey My command, 00:07:13.870 --> 00:07:17.870 dare to commit acts of disobedience against Me, or transgress My limits, 00:07:17.870 --> 00:07:21.870 lest I send down My punishment upon you and inflict My torment upon you. 00:07:21.870 --> 00:07:26.870 Today I have perfected for you, O believers, My obligatory duties, My limits, 00:07:26.870 --> 00:07:29.870 My commands, and My prohibitions. 00:07:29.870 --> 00:07:34.870 And I have completed My favor upon you, O believers, by granting you victory over your enemy 00:07:34.870 --> 00:07:38.870 and severing their hope that you would ever return to polytheism. 00:07:38.870 --> 00:07:43.870 And I am pleased with your submission to My command in obedience to Me. 00:07:43.870 --> 00:07:48.870 But whoever is compelled by necessity during a famine, without inclining toward sin— 00:07:48.870 --> 00:07:51.870 without deviating toward it intentionally— 00:07:51.870 --> 00:07:54.870 then Allah conceals it for him regarding what he ate, 00:07:54.870 --> 00:07:57.870 pardoning him and withholding His punishment from him. 00:07:57.870 --> 00:07:59.870 For He is most gentle with him, 00:07:59.870 --> 00:08:02.870 and out of His mercy and gentleness toward him, 00:08:02.870 --> 00:08:07.870 He permitted him to eat of the dead animal when he feared for his life. 00:08:07.870 --> 00:08:12.410 “They ask thee (O Muhammad) what is made lawful for them. When ye rise up for prayer, wash you faces, and your hands up to the elbows, and lightly rub your heads and (wash) your feet up to the ankles. And if ye are unclean, purify yourselves. And if ye are sick or on a journey, or one of you cometh from the closet, or ye have had contact with women, and ye find not water, then go to clean, high ground and rub your faces and your hands with some of it. Allah would not place a burden on you, but He would purify you and would perfect His grace upon you, that ye may give thanks.” (5:6) 00:13:32.389 --> 00:13:44.379 O you who have believed! When you stand up for prayer while you are not in a state of ritual purity, wash your faces with water and your hands up to the elbows. 00:13:44.379 --> 00:13:52.379 Wipe over whatever part of your heads seems fit to you to wipe with water, and wash your feet up to the ankles. 00:13:52.379 --> 00:14:00.379 If you are in a state of major ritual impurity before standing up for prayer, purify yourselves by taking a full bath. 00:14:00.379 --> 00:14:05.379 If you are wounded or afflicted with smallpox while in major ritual impurity, 00:14:05.379 --> 00:14:08.379 or if you are traveling while in major ritual impurity, 00:14:08.379 --> 00:14:14.379 or if one of you comes having relieved himself while on a journey, 00:14:14.379 --> 00:14:18.379 or if you have had sexual intercourse with women while traveling, 00:14:18.379 --> 00:14:24.379 and you do not find water, then head for clean, pure, and lawful earth on the surface of the ground. 00:14:24.379 --> 00:14:28.379 Strike your hands upon the soil with which you intend to perform dry ablution (tayammum), 00:14:28.379 --> 00:14:33.379 and wipe over your faces and hands with whatever dust clings to your hands from it. 00:14:33.379 --> 00:14:39.379 Allah does not intend through what He has ordained for you of minor ablution, major ablution, and dry ablution 00:14:39.379 --> 00:14:44.379 to place any hardship upon you or impose restriction upon you in your religion; 00:14:45.379 --> 00:14:49.379 rather, Allah intends to purify you through what He has ordained for you. 00:14:49.379 --> 00:14:54.379 So cleanse and purify your bodies from sins through these means. 00:14:54.379 --> 00:14:59.379 He also intends to complete His favor upon you by permitting dry ablution for you, 00:14:59.379 --> 00:15:04.379 so that you may express gratitude to Allah for the blessings He has bestowed upon you 00:15:04.379 --> 00:15:08.379 by obeying Him in what He has commanded you and forbidden you, 00:15:14.639 --> 00:15:22.639 granting you success therein when you said: "We hear and we obey." 00:15:22.639 --> 00:15:31.639 “Remember Allah's grace upon you and His covenant by which He bound you when ye said: We hear and we obey; And keep your duty to Allah. Lo! He knoweth what is in the breasts (of men).” (5:7) 00:15:31.639 --> 00:15:38.690 And remember, O believers, the covenants you bound yourselves to for Allah's sake; 00:15:38.690 --> 00:15:44.690 remember His favor upon you in guiding you through these covenants to that which pleases Him, 00:15:44.690 --> 00:15:48.690 and His granting you success in that which contains your salvation from misguidance. 00:15:48.690 --> 00:15:53.690 Remember also, O believers, His covenant with which He bound you, 00:15:53.690 --> 00:15:59.690 when you said: "We hear and we obey what You have spoken to us and the pledges You have taken from us." 00:15:59.690 --> 00:16:04.690 Fulfill, O believers, Allah's covenant with which He bound you, 00:16:04.690 --> 00:16:09.690 and fear Allah, for He is fully aware of the innermost secrets of the hearts, 00:16:09.690 --> 00:16:14.240 and Knower of what your souls conceal. 00:16:14.240 --> 00:16:23.240 “O ye who believe! Be steadfast witnesses for Allah in equity, and let not hatred of any people seduce you that ye deal not justly. Deal justly, that is nearer to your duty. Observe your duty to Allah. Lo! Allah is Informed of what ye do.” (5:8) 00:16:23.240 --> 00:16:29.240 ﴿...and do not let the hatred of a people prevent you from being just.﴾ 00:16:29.240 --> 00:16:33.240 ﴿Be just; that is nearer to righteousness.﴾ 00:16:33.240 --> 00:16:43.240 And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is All-Aware of what you do. 00:16:43.240 --> 00:16:48.940 O you who have believed in Allah and His Messenger, Muhammad: 00:16:48.940 --> 00:16:51.940 Let it be among your moral traits and characteristics 00:16:51.940 --> 00:16:54.940 to stand firmly for Allah as witnesses in justice. 00:16:54.940 --> 00:16:58.940 Do not be tyrannical in your judgments and actions, 00:16:58.940 --> 00:17:04.940 and never let the hatred of a people prevent you from acting justly in your judgment concerning them. 00:17:04.940 --> 00:17:09.940 Be just, O believers, toward every single person among humanity, 00:17:09.940 --> 00:17:12.940 whether they be an ally to you or an enemy. 00:17:12.940 --> 00:17:19.940 For maintaining justice toward them is closer for you, O believers, to being reckoned by Allah among the people of righteousness. 00:17:19.940 --> 00:17:23.940 And beware, O believers, of acting unjustly toward His servants; 00:17:23.940 --> 00:17:31.940 indeed, Allah is All-Aware and fully knowing of what you do, O believers, regarding what He has commanded you and what He has forbidden you. 00:17:31.940 --> 00:17:34.940 He records and enumerates all of that against you, 00:17:34.940 --> 00:17:38.940 so that He may fully requite you for it with your due recompense. 00:17:38.940 --> 00:17:49.450 Allah has promised those who believe and do righteous deeds that for them there is forgiveness and a great reward. 00:17:49.450 --> 00:17:53.900 Allah has promised those who were true to Allah and His Messenger 00:17:53.900 --> 00:17:56.900 and acted in accordance with that covenant by which Allah bound them: 00:17:56.900 --> 00:17:59.900 For them is the covering of their past sins, 00:17:59.900 --> 00:18:04.900 and for them is a great reward—an immense, boundless good 00:18:04.900 --> 00:18:08.900 whose ultimate extent no one knows except Him, Exalted be His remembrance. 00:18:08.900 --> 00:18:18.279 But those who disbelieved and denied Our signs—they are the companions of the Hellfire. 00:18:18.279 --> 00:18:22.730 And those who rejected the oneness of Allah 00:18:22.730 --> 00:18:25.730 and denied Allah's clear proofs and evidences— 00:18:25.730 --> 00:18:29.730 these are the people of the Fire, who will abide therein eternally, 00:18:29.730 --> 00:18:32.730 never to be brought out from it. 00:18:33.730 --> 00:18:39.890 O you who have believed, remember the favor of Allah upon you. 00:18:39.890 --> 00:18:48.890 “O ye who believe! Remember Allah's favour unto you, how a people were minded to stretch out their hands against you but He withheld their hands from you; and keep your duty to Allah. In Allah let believers put their trust.” (5:11) 00:18:48.890 --> 00:18:51.890 So He restrained their hands from you. 00:18:51.890 --> 00:18:56.890 “O ye who believe! Remember Allah's favour unto you, how a people were minded to stretch out their hands against you but He withheld their hands from you; and keep your duty to Allah. In Allah let believers put their trust.” (5:11) 00:18:56.890 --> 00:19:01.890 And upon Allah let the believers rely. 00:19:01.890 --> 00:19:09.470 O you who have affirmed the oneness of Allah and the message of His Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:19:09.470 --> 00:19:13.470 remember the favor that Allah bestowed upon you, 00:19:13.470 --> 00:19:17.470 and give thanks to Him for it by remaining faithful to His covenant. 00:19:17.470 --> 00:19:24.470 By this favor, He refers to His grace in delivering His Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) 00:19:24.470 --> 00:19:28.470 from what the Jews of Banu al-Nadir had plotted against him, 00:19:28.470 --> 00:19:31.470 aiming to kill him and those with him— 00:19:31.470 --> 00:19:34.470 when a people intended to stretch out their hands against you, 00:19:34.470 --> 00:19:36.470 but He turned them away from you 00:19:36.470 --> 00:19:39.470 and intervened between them and what they desired. 00:19:39.470 --> 00:19:45.470 And fear Allah, O believers, lest you disobey Him in what He has commanded you and forbidden you. 00:19:45.470 --> 00:19:48.470 And unto Allah alone let those who act in accordance with His commands and prohibitions entrust the reins of their affairs, 00:19:48.470 --> 00:19:52.470 surrendering completely to His decree and trusting firmly in His succor— 00:19:52.470 --> 00:19:55.470 those who act according to His command and prohibition.
