Allah the Exalted says:
“Make not your oaths a deceit between you, lest a foot should slip after being firmly planted and ye should taste evil forasmuch as ye debarred (men) from the way of Allah, and yours should be an awful doom.” (16:94)

Ibn al-Qayyim, may Allah have mercy on him, said:
Whoever desires to elevate their structure must secure its foundation, reinforce it, and attend to it with great care.
For the height of a structure is proportional to the strength of its foundation.
Deeds and spiritual ranks are the structure, and their foundation is faith.
When the foundation is secure, it supports the structure and allows it to rise.
If any part of the structure collapses, it is easy to repair.
But if the foundation is not secure, the structure will neither rise nor remain stable.
And if any part of the foundation collapses, the structure falls or is on the verge of falling.
