A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the Companions and among the first to embrace Islam.
I am one of the early Emigrants to Medina.
I embraced Islam when I was twenty-one years old.
I was among the most handsome of men.
And one of the strongest and most resolute in battle.
I participated in all the military campaigns with the Prophet, peace be upon him.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, appointed me as commander over more than one expedition.
I performed valiantly on the day of Badr.
So much so that my sword broke in my hand.
I went to the Prophet, peace be upon him.
He gave me a branch from a palm tree.
He said, "Fight with this."
I asked, "How can I fight with this branch, O Messenger of Allah?"
He said, "Shake it," so I shook it.
It turned into a sharp, gleaming sword in my hand.
I fought with it.
And I witnessed the battles with it thereafter until my death.
That sword was called "al-'Awn" (The Aid).
The Prophet, peace be upon him, mentioned in one of his gatherings.
That seventy thousand of his Ummah will enter Paradise without reckoning or punishment.
He described their attributes.
That they are those who do not seek ruqyah (incantations), do not cauterize, and do not believe in omens.
And they rely solely upon their Lord.
When I heard that.
I asked the Prophet, peace be upon him.
To pray to Allah that I be one of them.
He gave me the glad tidings and said, "You are one of them."
After the death of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
I went out with the Muslim armies to fight the apostates.
The commander Khalid Ibn al-Walid, may Allah be pleased with him, sent me.
Me and Thabit Ibn Aqram, may Allah be pleased with him.
As scouts ahead of them to bring news of the enemy.
We set out.
We encountered Tulayha Ibn Khuwaylid and his brother Salama.
Who were also scouts for the apostates.
We fought each other.
I engaged Tulayha in single combat.
And Thabit engaged Salama Ibn Khuwaylid.
It was not long before Salama killed Thabit Ibn Aqram.
As for me, I was about to kill Tulayha.
Tulayha cried out to Salama.
"Help me against this man, for he is going to kill me!"
So Salama turned and attacked me, and they both killed me, then they left.
When the Muslims arrived, they found us killed.
They were deeply affected and grieved intensely.
They found grievous wounds upon me.
They dug a grave for us and buried us in our clothes.
I was forty-five years old when I was killed.
