So when 00:02:10.370 --> 00:02:12.370 he heard the story of Ibrahim, peace be upon him, 00:02:12.370 --> 00:02:14.370 and what had happened to him 00:02:14.370 --> 00:02:16.370 with that fire, he requested 00:02:16.370 --> 00:02:18.400 to meet him. When 00:02:18.400 --> 00:02:20.400 he met him and heard his story, 00:02:20.400 --> 00:02:22.400 he was intrigued by him. 00:02:22.400 --> 00:02:24.400 Ibrahim, peace be upon him, 00:02:24.400 --> 00:02:26.400 mentioned to him that 00:02:26.400 --> 00:02:28.400 he had only entered his city 00:02:28.400 --> 00:02:30.400 to seek provisions 00:02:30.400 --> 00:02:32.400 and continue his journey, 00:02:32.400 --> 00:02:34.400 migrating to his Lord Almighty. 00:02:34.400 --> 00:02:36.460 Thereupon, the king asked him 00:02:36.460 --> 00:02:38.460 about his Lord whom he worshipped, 00:02:38.460 --> 00:02:40.460 so Ibrahim, 00:02:40.460 --> 00:02:42.460 peace be upon him, said to him: 00:02:42.460 --> 00:02:44.460 "I worship Allah, my Lord, alone, 00:02:44.460 --> 00:02:46.460 without any partner, 00:02:46.460 --> 00:02:48.460 the One who gives life and causes death." 00:02:48.460 --> 00:02:50.460 But the king argued with 00:02:50.460 --> 00:02:52.460 Ibrahim, peace be upon him, 00:02:52.460 --> 00:02:54.460 and said, "I am a lord 00:02:54.460 --> 00:02:56.460 as well, and I, 00:02:56.460 --> 00:02:58.659 I give life and cause death." 00:02:58.659 --> 00:03:00.659 The king then summoned two men 00:03:00.659 --> 00:03:02.659 who were condemned to death; 00:03:02.659 --> 00:03:04.659 he executed the first 00:03:04.659 --> 00:03:06.659 and released the other, 00:03:06.659 --> 00:03:08.659 and said to Ibrahim, 00:03:08.659 --> 00:03:10.659 "Look, I have given life to this one, 00:03:10.659 --> 00:03:12.659 for I released him 00:03:12.659 --> 00:03:14.659 after he was counted among 00:03:14.659 --> 00:03:16.659 the dead, and I caused the death 00:03:16.659 --> 00:03:18.659 of the other; so I 00:03:18.659 --> 00:03:20.689 give life and cause death!" 00:03:20.689 --> 00:03:22.689 Here, Ibrahim, 00:03:22.689 --> 00:03:24.689 peace be upon him, realized the sheer foolishness of this tyrant, 00:03:24.689 --> 00:03:26.689 who did not understand that 00:03:26.689 --> 00:03:28.689 Allah, Majestic and Exalted, creates life 00:03:28.689 --> 00:03:30.909 out of nothingness. 00:03:30.909 --> 00:03:32.909 So Ibrahim, peace be upon him, abandoned 00:03:32.909 --> 00:03:34.909 debating him on this point, 00:03:34.909 --> 00:03:36.909 and presented him with another argument 00:03:36.909 --> 00:03:38.909 that silenced him completely, 00:03:38.909 --> 00:03:40.909 saying: "Indeed, my Lord 00:03:40.909 --> 00:03:42.909 brings the sun from 00:03:42.909 --> 00:03:44.909 the east, so bring it 00:03:44.909 --> 00:03:46.909 from the west." 00:03:46.909 --> 00:03:48.909 Thus was the disbeliever dumbfounded, 00:03:48.909 --> 00:03:50.909 his tongue was tied, 00:03:50.909 --> 00:03:52.909 and his arguments were shattered; 00:03:52.909 --> 00:03:55.069 he could find no answer. 00:03:55.069 --> 00:03:57.069 Yet, despite that, 00:03:57.069 --> 00:03:59.069 he remained stubborn and arrogant, 00:03:59.069 --> 00:04:01.069 and forbade Ibrahim from taking 00:04:01.069 --> 00:04:03.069 food provisions from his city, 00:04:03.069 --> 00:04:05.069 as a punishment for not 00:04:05.069 --> 00:04:07.069 believing in him as a lord, 00:04:07.069 --> 00:04:09.069 and threatened him because of that. 00:04:09.069 --> 00:04:11.169 So Ibrahim, 00:04:11.169 --> 00:04:13.169 peace be upon him, departed from his city 00:04:13.169 --> 00:04:15.169 in haste, fearing 00:04:15.169 --> 00:04:18.000 that he might assault him. 00:04:18.000 --> 00:04:20.000 Allah Almighty said: 00:04:20.000 --> 00:04:22.000 "Have you not considered the one who 00:04:22.000 --> 00:04:24.000 argued with 00:04:24.000 --> 00:04:26.000 Ibrahim about 00:04:26.000 --> 00:04:28.000 his Lord because 00:04:28.000 --> 00:04:30.000 Allah had given him 00:04:30.000 --> 00:04:32.000 kingship? 00:04:32.000 --> 00:04:34.000 When 00:04:34.000 --> 00:04:36.000 Ibrahim said, 'My Lord 00:04:36.000 --> 00:04:38.000 is the One who gives life and causes death,' 00:04:38.000 --> 00:04:40.000 when 00:04:40.000 --> 00:04:42.000 Ibrahim said, 'My Lord 00:04:42.000 --> 00:04:44.000 is the One who gives life and causes death,' 00:04:44.000 --> 00:04:46.000 he said, 'I give life 00:04:46.000 --> 00:04:48.000 and cause death.' 00:04:48.000 --> 00:04:50.000 Ibrahim said, 00:04:50.000 --> 00:04:52.000 'Indeed, Allah brings 00:04:52.000 --> 00:04:54.000 the sun from the east, 00:04:54.000 --> 00:04:56.000 so bring it from the west.' 00:04:56.000 --> 00:04:58.000 'So bring it 00:04:58.000 --> 00:05:00.000 from the west.' So dumbfounded was 00:05:00.000 --> 00:05:02.000 the one who disbelieved, 00:05:02.000 --> 00:05:04.000 and Allah does not guide 00:05:04.000 --> 00:05:06.000 the wrongdoing people." 00:05:06.000 --> 00:05:08.319 And among 00:05:08.319 --> 00:05:10.319 the events that happened 00:05:10.319 --> 00:05:12.319 to Ibrahim, peace be upon him, 00:05:12.319 --> 00:05:14.319 and his wife Sarah on their journey, 00:05:14.319 --> 00:05:16.319 is that they came upon 00:05:16.319 --> 00:05:18.350 a tyrant among tyrants. 00:05:18.350 --> 00:05:20.350 It was said that he was Nimrod himself, 00:05:20.350 --> 00:05:22.350 and it was said that he was another 00:05:22.350 --> 00:05:24.350 tyrannical, oppressive king 00:05:24.350 --> 00:05:26.420 other than Nimrod. 00:05:26.420 --> 00:05:28.420 It was said to this tyrannical king, 00:05:28.420 --> 00:05:30.420 "There is here 00:05:30.420 --> 00:05:32.420 a woman among the most beautiful of women, 00:05:32.420 --> 00:05:34.420 and she is fit 00:05:34.420 --> 00:05:36.420 for none other than you," and they made him covet 00:05:36.420 --> 00:05:38.509 her. So that tyrannical king 00:05:38.509 --> 00:05:40.509 sent 00:05:40.509 --> 00:05:42.509 for Ibrahim, peace be upon him, 00:05:42.509 --> 00:05:44.509 and asked him about the woman who 00:05:44.509 --> 00:05:46.540 was with him. Thereupon, 00:05:46.540 --> 00:05:48.540 Ibrahim, peace be upon him, said, 00:05:48.540 --> 00:05:50.540 "She is my sister." 00:05:50.540 --> 00:05:52.540 So the king released him 00:05:52.540 --> 00:05:54.540 and ordered the soldiers to bring 00:05:54.540 --> 00:05:56.670 Sarah to him. 00:05:56.670 --> 00:05:58.670 The Prophet of Allah Ibrahim, 00:05:58.670 --> 00:06:00.670 peace be upon him, returned to Sarah 00:06:00.670 --> 00:06:02.670 and said to her, "Indeed, 00:06:02.670 --> 00:06:04.670 if this king knows 00:06:04.670 --> 00:06:06.670 that you are my wife, he will overpower me 00:06:06.670 --> 00:06:08.699 to take you. So if he asks you, 00:06:08.699 --> 00:06:10.699 tell him that you are my sister, 00:06:10.699 --> 00:06:12.699 for indeed you are my sister in 00:06:12.699 --> 00:06:14.699 Islam; there is no 00:06:14.699 --> 00:06:16.699 believer on earth besides me and you." 00:06:16.699 --> 00:06:19.089 Ibrahim, peace be upon him, only said 00:06:19.089 --> 00:06:21.089 about Sarah 00:06:21.089 --> 00:06:23.089 that she was his sister 00:06:23.089 --> 00:06:25.089 in order to incur the lesser of two harms; 00:06:25.089 --> 00:06:27.089 for had the tyrannical king known 00:06:27.089 --> 00:06:29.089 that she was his wife, 00:06:29.089 --> 00:06:31.089 he would have killed Ibrahim and taken 00:06:31.089 --> 00:06:33.089 Sarah. However, 00:06:33.089 --> 00:06:35.089 if he knew she was his sister, 00:06:35.089 --> 00:06:37.089 he would take her without having 00:06:37.089 --> 00:06:39.089 to kill Ibrahim, peace 00:06:39.089 --> 00:06:42.300 be upon him. 00:06:42.300 --> 00:06:44.300 When Sarah was taken to the king, 00:06:44.300 --> 00:06:46.300 Ibrahim, peace be upon him, stood 00:06:46.300 --> 00:06:48.370 in prayer. 00:06:48.370 --> 00:06:50.370 When Sarah was brought before the tyrant king, 00:06:50.370 --> 00:06:52.370 he could not contain 00:06:52.370 --> 00:06:54.370 himself and stretched out 00:06:54.370 --> 00:06:56.370 his hand toward her due to her extraordinary beauty. 00:06:56.370 --> 00:06:58.370 Thereupon, Sarah prayed 00:06:58.370 --> 00:07:00.370 to her Lord, saying: 00:07:00.370 --> 00:07:02.370 "O Allah, if You 00:07:02.370 --> 00:07:04.370 know that I have believed in You 00:07:04.370 --> 00:07:06.370 and Your Messenger, and have guarded 00:07:06.370 --> 00:07:08.370 my chastity against all 00:07:08.370 --> 00:07:10.370 but my husband, do not give 00:07:10.370 --> 00:07:12.430 this disbeliever power over me!" 00:07:12.430 --> 00:07:14.430 Instantly, the king's hand was seized 00:07:14.430 --> 00:07:16.430 with a severe paralysis, 00:07:16.430 --> 00:07:18.430 becoming completely stiff and withered, 00:07:18.430 --> 00:07:20.430 and he collapsed in a fit. 00:07:20.430 --> 00:07:22.430 When he recovered, he pleaded with her: 00:07:22.430 --> 00:07:24.430 "Pray to Allah for me, 00:07:24.430 --> 00:07:26.459 and I will not harm you." 00:07:26.459 --> 00:07:28.459 She said to herself: "O Allah, 00:07:28.459 --> 00:07:30.459 if he dies, it will be said 00:07:30.459 --> 00:07:32.459 that she is the one who killed him." 00:07:32.459 --> 00:07:34.459 So she prayed to Allah for his relief, 00:07:34.459 --> 00:07:36.779 and his hand was released. 00:07:36.779 --> 00:07:38.779 Yet the king reached out toward her a second time, 00:07:38.779 --> 00:07:40.779 so she invoked Allah, 00:07:40.779 --> 00:07:42.779 the Almighty and Majestic, 00:07:42.779 --> 00:07:44.779 and he was seized as severely as the first time, 00:07:44.779 --> 00:07:46.779 or even more intensely. 00:07:46.779 --> 00:07:48.779 He begged her once again to pray for him, 00:07:48.779 --> 00:07:50.779 and she did so, 00:07:50.779 --> 00:07:52.980 whereupon his hand was freed. 00:07:52.980 --> 00:07:54.980 But he advanced toward her yet again, 00:07:54.980 --> 00:07:56.980 only to be afflicted just as he had been 00:07:56.980 --> 00:07:58.980 on the first two occasions. 00:07:58.980 --> 00:08:00.980 He then summoned the man who had brought 00:08:00.980 --> 00:08:02.980 Sarah to him 00:08:02.980 --> 00:08:04.980 and said to him: "You 00:08:04.980 --> 00:08:06.980 have not brought me a human being! 00:08:06.980 --> 00:08:08.980 You brought me nothing of the sort! 00:08:08.980 --> 00:08:10.980 Take her back 00:08:10.980 --> 00:08:12.980 to Ibrahim!" 00:08:12.980 --> 00:08:14.980 And he gifted her a maidservant, 00:08:14.980 --> 00:08:17.139 who was Hajar. 00:08:17.139 --> 00:08:19.139 When she was released, 00:08:19.139 --> 00:08:21.139 accompanied by Hajar, 00:08:21.139 --> 00:08:23.139 she returned to Ibrahim, peace be upon him, 00:08:23.139 --> 00:08:25.139 who was still standing in prayer. 00:08:25.139 --> 00:08:27.139 He said to her 00:08:27.139 --> 00:08:29.139 after finishing his prayer: 00:08:29.139 --> 00:08:31.170 "What news do you bring?" 00:08:31.170 --> 00:08:33.169 Sarah replied, summarizing 00:08:33.169 --> 00:08:35.169 all that had transpired: 00:08:35.169 --> 00:08:37.169 "Allah thwarted the plot of the disbeliever, 00:08:37.169 --> 00:08:39.169 and gave us Hajar as a servant." 00:08:39.169 --> 00:08:42.539 Among the significant events 00:08:42.539 --> 00:08:44.539 that Ibrahim, 00:08:44.539 --> 00:08:46.539 peace be upon him, experienced during his journey 00:08:46.539 --> 00:08:48.539 was that he asked Allah a profound question, 00:08:48.539 --> 00:08:50.539 saying: 00:08:50.539 --> 00:08:52.539 "My Lord, show me how You give life 00:08:52.539 --> 00:08:54.580 to the dead." 00:08:54.580 --> 00:08:56.580 Allah, Exalted is He, said to him: 00:08:56.580 --> 00:08:58.580 "Have you not believed, O Ibrahim, 00:08:58.580 --> 00:09:00.580 that I over all things 00:09:00.580 --> 00:09:02.610 am Capable?" 00:09:02.610 --> 00:09:04.610 Ibrahim answered: 00:09:04.610 --> 00:09:06.610 "Yes, my Lord, but 00:09:06.610 --> 00:09:08.960 so that my heart may be at ease." 00:09:08.960 --> 00:09:10.960 The scholars explained: 00:09:10.960 --> 00:09:12.960 Ibrahim, peace be upon him, wished 00:09:12.960 --> 00:09:14.960 to ascend from the level of certainty based on knowledge ('ilm al-yaqin) 00:09:14.960 --> 00:09:16.960 to a higher station, 00:09:16.960 --> 00:09:18.960 which is certainty through direct witnessing ('ayn 00:09:18.960 --> 00:09:20.960 al-yaqin); 00:09:20.960 --> 00:09:22.960 doubt had never crossed his heart 00:09:22.960 --> 00:09:25.090 in the slightest. 00:09:25.090 --> 00:09:27.090 The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: 00:09:27.090 --> 00:09:29.090 "We are more prone to doubt 00:09:29.090 --> 00:09:31.090 than Ibrahim 00:09:31.090 --> 00:09:33.090 when he said: 'My Lord, show me how You give life 00:09:33.090 --> 00:09:35.220 to the dead.'" 00:09:35.220 --> 00:09:37.220 This was a defense by the Prophet, peace be upon him, 00:09:37.220 --> 00:09:39.220 of his forefather Ibrahim, 00:09:39.220 --> 00:09:41.220 peace be upon him, 00:09:41.220 --> 00:09:43.379 affirming that he never doubted. 00:09:43.379 --> 00:09:45.379 That is to say: as long as 00:09:45.379 --> 00:09:47.379 we ourselves do not doubt, 00:09:47.379 --> 00:09:49.379 then all the more so 00:09:49.379 --> 00:09:51.379 he never doubted either, 00:09:51.379 --> 00:09:53.379 may the blessings and peace of Allah 00:09:53.379 --> 00:09:56.590 be upon him. 00:09:56.590 --> 00:09:58.590 Allah, Exalted is He, commanded Ibrahim, 00:09:58.590 --> 00:10:00.590 peace be upon him: 00:10:00.590 --> 00:10:02.590 “And when Abraham said (unto his Lord): My Lord! (His Lord) said: Take four of the birds and cause them to incline unto thee, then place a part of them on each hill, then call them, they will come to thee in haste, and know that Allah is Mighty, Wise.” (2:260) 00:10:38.000 --> 00:10:40.000 Allah said, 'Have you not 00:10:40.000 --> 00:10:42.000 believed?' 00:10:42.000 --> 00:10:44.000 He said, 'Yes, 00:10:44.000 --> 00:10:46.000 but only that my heart 00:10:46.000 --> 00:10:48.000 may be at ease.' 00:10:48.000 --> 00:10:50.000 Allah said, 'Take four 00:10:50.000 --> 00:10:52.000 birds, 00:10:52.000 --> 00:10:54.000 incline them 00:10:54.000 --> 00:10:56.000 toward you, 00:10:56.000 --> 00:10:58.000 then place 00:10:58.000 --> 00:11:00.000 on each mountain 00:11:00.000 --> 00:11:02.000 of them 00:11:02.000 --> 00:11:04.000 a part; 00:11:04.000 --> 00:11:06.000 then place 00:11:06.000 --> 00:11:08.000 on each mountain 00:11:08.000 --> 00:11:10.000 of them 00:11:10.000 --> 00:11:12.000 a part; 00:11:12.000 --> 00:11:14.000 then call them, 00:11:14.000 --> 00:11:16.000 and they will come to you 00:11:16.000 --> 00:11:18.000 in haste. 00:11:18.000 --> 00:11:20.000 And know 00:11:20.000 --> 00:11:22.000 that Allah is Almighty, 00:11:22.000 --> 00:11:24.000 All-Wise.'" 00:11:24.000 --> 00:11:26.000 Ibrahim, 00:11:26.000 --> 00:11:28.450 peace be upon him, arrived 00:11:28.450 --> 00:11:30.450 at the destination of his migration, 00:11:30.450 --> 00:11:32.450 which was the land of the Levant (al-Sham), 00:11:32.450 --> 00:11:34.450 the blessed land. 00:11:34.450 --> 00:11:36.480 He settled there 00:11:36.480 --> 00:11:38.480 along with his wife Sarah 00:11:38.480 --> 00:11:40.480 and her maidservant Hajar. 00:11:40.480 --> 00:11:42.539 Allah revealed to him the Scriptures, 00:11:42.539 --> 00:11:44.539 containing immense goodness, 00:11:44.539 --> 00:11:46.539 guidance, and righteousness. 00:11:46.539 --> 00:11:48.860 Now Sarah, 00:11:48.860 --> 00:11:50.860 the wife of Ibrahim, peace be upon him, 00:11:50.860 --> 00:11:52.860 was barren 00:11:52.860 --> 00:11:54.990 and had not borne him any children. 00:11:54.990 --> 00:11:56.990 So she gifted Hajar to Ibrahim, peace be upon him, 00:11:56.990 --> 00:11:58.990 in the hope that Allah, Exalted is He, 00:11:58.990 --> 00:12:00.990 might grant him a child through her. 00:12:00.990 --> 00:12:02.990 And indeed, 00:12:02.990 --> 00:12:04.990 Hajar gave birth to Isma'il, 00:12:04.990 --> 00:12:06.990 peace be upon him. 00:12:06.990 --> 00:12:08.990 Consequently, the situation shifted, 00:12:08.990 --> 00:12:10.990 and feelings of jealousy arose in Sarah's heart. 00:12:10.990 --> 00:12:13.309 Then Allah, Exalted is He, commanded 00:12:13.309 --> 00:12:15.309 His Prophet and Close Friend, 00:12:15.309 --> 00:12:17.309 Ibrahim, peace be upon him, 00:12:17.309 --> 00:12:19.309 to depart with Hajar 00:12:19.309 --> 00:12:21.309 and her infant son Isma'il, 00:12:21.309 --> 00:12:23.379 migrating with them toward Mecca. 00:12:23.379 --> 00:12:25.379 Ibrahim, peace be upon him, complied with 00:12:25.379 --> 00:12:27.379 the command of his Lord, 00:12:27.379 --> 00:12:29.379 traveling with Hajar and her son Isma'il 00:12:29.379 --> 00:12:31.379 while she was nursing him, 00:12:31.379 --> 00:12:33.379 until he settled them near the House, 00:12:33.379 --> 00:12:35.379 beside a large tree 00:12:35.379 --> 00:12:37.379 above the location of Zamzam in the upper part 00:12:37.379 --> 00:12:39.440 of the Sanctuary. 00:12:39.440 --> 00:12:41.440 Zamzam did not exist 00:12:41.440 --> 00:12:43.440 at that time, 00:12:43.440 --> 00:12:45.440 nor was there anyone living in Mecca, 00:12:45.440 --> 00:12:47.539 nor was there any water. 00:12:47.539 --> 00:12:49.539 He settled the two of them there, 00:12:49.539 --> 00:12:51.539 placing beside them a leather bag 00:12:51.539 --> 00:12:53.539 containing some dates 00:12:53.539 --> 00:12:55.539 and a waterskin containing water. 00:12:55.539 --> 00:12:57.539 Then he turned around and walked away, 00:12:57.539 --> 00:12:59.539 leaving them there 00:12:59.539 --> 00:13:01.570 as he departed. 00:13:01.570 --> 00:13:03.570 The mother of Isma'il followed him, 00:13:03.570 --> 00:13:05.570 crying out: "O Ibrahim! 00:13:05.570 --> 00:13:07.570 Where are you going, leaving us 00:13:07.570 --> 00:13:09.570 in this desolate valley 00:13:09.570 --> 00:13:11.570 where there is neither human company 00:13:11.570 --> 00:13:13.570 nor any provision?" 00:13:13.570 --> 00:13:15.570 But he did not answer her and kept walking. 00:13:15.570 --> 00:13:17.600 She repeated 00:13:17.600 --> 00:13:19.600 this question to him several times, 00:13:19.600 --> 00:13:21.600 while he continued to walk away 00:13:21.600 --> 00:13:23.600 from her without turning his face 00:13:23.600 --> 00:13:25.600 toward her. 00:13:25.600 --> 00:13:27.730 At last she asked him: 00:13:27.730 --> 00:13:29.730 "Has Allah commanded you to do this?" 00:13:29.730 --> 00:13:31.730 He replied: "Yes." 00:13:31.730 --> 00:13:33.820 She said: 00:13:33.820 --> 00:13:35.820 "Then He will never forsake us!" 00:13:35.820 --> 00:13:38.690 With this firm conviction 00:13:38.690 --> 00:13:40.690 and this reliance upon Allah Almighty, 00:13:40.690 --> 00:13:42.690 Hajar returned 00:13:42.690 --> 00:13:44.690 to her son Ishmael 00:13:44.690 --> 00:13:46.690 in that desolate place, 00:13:46.690 --> 00:13:48.690 completely devoid of any means 00:13:48.690 --> 00:13:50.940 of sustenance. 00:13:50.940 --> 00:13:52.940 As for Abraham, peace be upon him, 00:13:52.940 --> 00:13:54.980 he continued on his way 00:13:54.980 --> 00:13:56.980 until he reached the mountain pass 00:13:56.980 --> 00:13:58.980 where they could no longer see him. 00:13:58.980 --> 00:14:00.980 There, he turned his face toward the House 00:14:00.980 --> 00:14:02.980 and supplicated 00:14:02.980 --> 00:14:04.980 with these words: 00:14:04.980 --> 00:14:06.980 "Our Lord, 00:14:06.980 --> 00:14:08.980 I have settled 00:14:08.980 --> 00:14:10.980 some of my offspring 00:14:10.980 --> 00:14:12.980 in an uncultivated 00:14:12.980 --> 00:14:14.980 valley, 00:14:14.980 --> 00:14:16.980 in an uncultivated 00:14:16.980 --> 00:14:18.980 valley 00:14:18.980 --> 00:14:20.980 near Your Sacred House, 00:14:20.980 --> 00:14:22.980 our Lord, so that they may establish 00:14:22.980 --> 00:14:24.980 prayer. 00:14:24.980 --> 00:14:26.980 Our Lord, so that they may establish prayer! 00:14:26.980 --> 00:14:28.980 So make hearts 00:14:28.980 --> 00:14:30.980 among the people 00:14:30.980 --> 00:14:32.980 incline toward them, 00:14:32.980 --> 00:14:34.980 and provide for them 00:14:34.980 --> 00:14:36.980 and provide for them 00:14:36.980 --> 00:14:38.980 with fruits, so that 00:14:38.980 --> 00:14:40.980 they may be grateful." 00:14:40.980 --> 00:14:43.519 Then he departed, 00:14:43.519 --> 00:14:45.519 peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. 00:14:45.519 --> 00:14:47.519 The mother of Ishmael began 00:14:47.519 --> 00:14:49.519 nursing her child and drinking 00:14:49.519 --> 00:14:51.519 from that water, until it finally ran out. 00:14:51.519 --> 00:14:53.519 She grew intensely thirsty, 00:14:53.519 --> 00:14:55.519 as did her infant son, 00:14:55.519 --> 00:14:57.519 and she watched him writhing 00:14:57.519 --> 00:14:59.519 in agony from thirst. 00:14:59.519 --> 00:15:01.519 Unable to bear looking 00:15:01.519 --> 00:15:03.519 at him in that desperate 00:15:03.519 --> 00:15:05.519 state, she set out, 00:15:05.519 --> 00:15:07.519 finding al-Safa to be the nearest hill 00:15:07.519 --> 00:15:09.519 rising from the land beside her. 00:15:09.519 --> 00:15:11.519 She climbed atop it 00:15:11.519 --> 00:15:13.519 and turned toward the valley, 00:15:13.519 --> 00:15:15.519 looking to see if there was anyone in sight, 00:15:15.519 --> 00:15:17.519 but she saw no one. 00:15:17.519 --> 00:15:19.519 So she descended from al-Safa, 00:15:19.519 --> 00:15:21.519 and ran with the desperate pace 00:15:21.519 --> 00:15:23.519 of an utterly exhausted person 00:15:23.519 --> 00:15:25.519 until she crossed the valley floor. 00:15:25.519 --> 00:15:27.519 She then came to al-Marwah 00:15:27.519 --> 00:15:29.519 and stood atop it, 00:15:29.519 --> 00:15:31.519 looking to see if anyone was in sight, 00:15:31.519 --> 00:15:33.519 but she saw no one. 00:15:33.519 --> 00:15:35.519 She did that 00:15:35.519 --> 00:15:37.519 seven times, pacing back and forth 00:15:37.519 --> 00:15:39.519 between al-Safa and al-Marwah. 00:15:39.519 --> 00:15:41.740 And on the final lap, 00:15:41.740 --> 00:15:43.740 as she reached the summit of al-Marwah, 00:15:43.740 --> 00:15:45.740 she heard a voice. 00:15:45.740 --> 00:15:47.740 She said to herself, "Hush!" 00:15:47.740 --> 00:15:49.740 addressing herself, 00:15:49.740 --> 00:15:51.740 for there was no one else 00:15:51.740 --> 00:15:53.740 in that place 00:15:53.740 --> 00:15:55.740 for her to silence but herself. 00:15:55.740 --> 00:15:57.940 Then she looked, 00:15:57.940 --> 00:15:59.940 and behold, there was an angel 00:15:59.940 --> 00:16:01.940 at the site of Zamzam, 00:16:01.940 --> 00:16:03.970 near the infant boy. 00:16:03.970 --> 00:16:05.970 The angel dug into the earth with his heel— 00:16:05.970 --> 00:16:07.970 or struck it with his wing— 00:16:07.970 --> 00:16:09.970 until water burst forth. 00:16:09.970 --> 00:16:12.129 Hajar rushed toward the 00:16:12.129 --> 00:16:14.129 water and began damming it up, 00:16:14.129 --> 00:16:16.129 to keep the water from flowing away, 00:16:16.129 --> 00:16:18.129 scooping 00:16:18.129 --> 00:16:20.129 the water into her waterskin 00:16:20.129 --> 00:16:22.129 while it continued to gush forth 00:16:22.129 --> 00:16:24.129 after each scoop. 00:16:24.129 --> 00:16:26.379 The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: 00:16:26.379 --> 00:16:28.379 "May Allah have mercy 00:16:28.379 --> 00:16:30.379 upon the mother of Ishmael. 00:16:30.379 --> 00:16:32.379 Had she left Zamzam alone 00:16:32.379 --> 00:16:34.379 without scooping up its water, 00:16:34.379 --> 00:16:36.379 Zamzam would have become 00:16:36.379 --> 00:16:38.639 a freely flowing spring." 00:16:38.639 --> 00:16:40.639 So Hajar drank and nursed her child. 00:16:40.639 --> 00:16:42.639 And the angel said to her, 00:16:42.639 --> 00:16:44.639 "Do not fear being abandoned or lost, 00:16:44.639 --> 00:16:46.639 for here stands a House of Allah 00:16:46.639 --> 00:16:48.639 which will be built by this 00:16:48.639 --> 00:16:50.639 boy and his father." 00:16:50.639 --> 00:16:53.889 The mother of Ishmael remained 00:16:53.889 --> 00:16:55.889 in this state until 00:16:55.889 --> 00:16:57.889 a passing caravan from the tribe of Jurhum arrived. 00:16:57.889 --> 00:16:59.889 They halted in the lower part of Mecca 00:16:59.889 --> 00:17:01.889 and spotted a circling bird, 00:17:01.889 --> 00:17:03.889 hovering in the sky. 00:17:03.889 --> 00:17:05.890 They said, 00:17:05.890 --> 00:17:07.890 "This bird would not hover 00:17:07.890 --> 00:17:09.890 except over water, 00:17:09.890 --> 00:17:11.890 yet we know this valley has no water." 00:17:12.890 --> 00:17:15.920 So they sent someone to bring them news, 00:17:15.920 --> 00:17:17.920 and he found water! 00:17:17.920 --> 00:17:19.920 They returned and informed the clan 00:17:19.920 --> 00:17:21.920 that in this place 00:17:21.920 --> 00:17:23.950 there was indeed water. 00:17:23.950 --> 00:17:25.950 They came, 00:17:25.950 --> 00:17:27.950 and found the mother of Ishmael by the water. 00:17:27.950 --> 00:17:29.950 They said to her, 00:17:29.950 --> 00:17:31.950 "Do you permit us 00:17:31.950 --> 00:17:33.950 to settle near you?" 00:17:33.950 --> 00:17:35.950 This illustrates the noble 00:17:35.950 --> 00:17:37.950 character of the ancient Arabs: 00:17:37.950 --> 00:17:39.950 they sought permission from a vulnerable woman 00:17:39.950 --> 00:17:41.950 accompanied only by an infant child, 00:17:41.950 --> 00:17:43.950 while they were a large company. 00:17:43.950 --> 00:17:45.950 The mother of Ishmael replied, 00:17:45.950 --> 00:17:47.950 "Yes, 00:17:47.950 --> 00:17:49.950 but you will have no 00:17:49.950 --> 00:17:51.950 claim of ownership over the water." 00:17:51.950 --> 00:17:53.950 They agreed, "Yes." 00:17:53.950 --> 00:17:56.049 Thus the mother of Ishmael found 00:17:56.049 --> 00:17:58.049 companionship in them, 00:17:58.049 --> 00:18:00.049 which she dearly welcomed. 00:18:00.049 --> 00:18:02.049 And among them grew up the Prophet 00:18:02.049 --> 00:18:04.049 of Allah Almighty, Ishmael, 00:18:04.049 --> 00:18:07.069 peace be upon him. 00:18:07.069 --> 00:18:09.069 To be continued, 00:18:09.069 --> 00:18:11.069 if Allah wills. 00:18:11.069 --> 00:18:13.069 And Allah knows best. 00:18:13.069 --> 00:18:15.069 All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, 00:18:15.069 --> 00:18:17.069 and may Allah send blessings and peace 00:18:17.069 --> 00:18:19.069 upon our Prophet Muhammad, 00:18:19.069 --> 00:18:21.069 and upon his family and companions, 00:18:21.069 --> 00:18:23.069 one and all. 00:18:23.069 --> 00:18:26.670 You have been listening to Stories 00:18:26.670 --> 00:18:35.579 of the Prophets, 00:18:35.579 --> 00:18:39.119 guidance for the believer. 00:18:39.119 --> 00:18:41.119 May Allah bless 00:18:41.119 --> 00:18:43.119 our master.
