The Forty Hadiths of al-Nawawi
On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who said:
The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:
"Every joint of the people owes a charity for every day
upon which the sun rises:
to act justly between two people is a charity,
to assist a man with his mount by helping him mount it,
or by lifting his luggage onto it for him, is a charity,
a good word is a charity,
every step one takes toward prayer is a charity,
and removing harmful objects from the road is a charity."
Narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
This hadith clarifies
that gratitude for Allah’s blessing of physical well-being
is expressed through righteous deeds.
Every movement a person makes can be transformed into a charity
if it is utilized for good.
It also clarifies that worship is not limited to financial acts,
but encompasses every beneficial behavior that serves the individual and society.
The hadith establishes the principle of daily responsibility,
and that a Muslim can earn reward every single day
through simple acts such as removing harmful objects,
reconciling between people, or engaging in the remembrance of Allah.
