Invitation through dialogue
Dialogue is one of the beneficial methods for conveying the truth.
It is usually between two parties.
And dialogue is review,
meaning that one of the parties, or both of them,
attempts to return the other to what they see as the truth.
And it is of two types:
Firstly,
a dialogue between a scholar and a student.
The scholar aims in it to clarify the truth
with its evidence for the one who is ignorant of it.
And usually the student accepts
what the scholar says.
Secondly,
a dialogue between two parties who differ on a matter.
And each of them explains
the correctness of their position with the evidence they possess.
And the goal of this dialogue
is for each party to invite the other to their opinion with evidence.
And it is considered successful
if the two parties agree on one opinion,
or if they do not agree,
but rather it becomes clear to each party
that what they differed on allows for disagreement,
and does not lead to division and animosity,
as in matters of ijtihad (independent legal reasoning),
and differences in assessing benefits and harms.
