A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
Reflecting upon the recited verses of Allah.
The term tadabbur (reflection) is derived from al-dubr,
Which refers to the end or the back of a thing.
Thus, tadabbur is to look into the consequences of matters and where they ultimately lead.
Therefore, reflecting upon the Book of Allah
Is the comprehensive contemplation that leads to its indications and its ultimate, overarching objectives.
Allah the Exalted said:
﴾A blessed Book We have revealed to you, that they might reflect upon its verses, and that those of understanding might be reminded.﴿
And He the Exalted said:
﴾Do they not then reflect upon the Qur'an?﴿
The primary objective of the Book of Allah the Exalted is guidance.
As He the Exalted said:
﴾Indeed, this Qur'an guides to that which is most upright.﴿
When the believers asked their Lord in Surah al-Fatihah for guidance to the straight path,
The answer came to them at the very beginning of Surah al-Baqarah immediately thereafter:
﴾This is the Book about which there is no doubt, a guidance for those conscious of Allah.﴿
Thus, reflecting upon the Qur'an in this manner yields the knowledge of its primary objective,
Which is to follow the path of guidance.
It is the most beneficial thing for a person in their journey toward Allah the Exalted,
As it makes them know their Lord who is worshipped and the path that leads to Him,
And the honor that awaits them when they arrive before Him.
Just as it makes them know, in contrast, what diverts them from following this path—that which Satan calls toward,
And the paths that lead to him,
And the humiliation and punishment that await those who follow them.
