A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
The enmity of Satan toward the children of Adam.
Allah the Exalted has explicitly declared in His Noble Book the enmity of Satan toward the children of Adam in numerous verses.
Regarding his enmity toward Adam, peace be upon him, and his wife, Allah the Exalted says:
“Therefor we said: O Adam! This is an enemy unto thee and unto thy wife, so let him not drive you both out of the Garden so that thou come to toil.” (20:117)
“Therefor we said: O Adam! This is an enemy unto thee and unto thy wife, so let him not drive you both out of the Garden so that thou come to toil.” (20:117)
And Allah the Exalted says:
“But Satan caused them to deflect therefrom and expelled them from the (happy) state in which they were; and We said: Fall down, one of you a foe unto the other! There shall be for you on earth a habitation and provision for a time.” (2:36)
"Go down, all of you, as enemies to one another."
"And for you on the earth is a place of settlement and enjoyment for a time."
And regarding his enmity toward all the children of Adam, Allah the Exalted says:
“Did I not charge you, O ye sons of Adam, that ye worship not the devil - Lo! he is your open foe! -” (36:60)
"Indeed, he is to you a clear enemy."
And Allah the Exalted says:
“Lo! the devil is an enemy for you, so treat him as an enemy. He only summoneth his faction to be owners of the flaming Fire.” (35:6)
“Lo! the devil is an enemy for you, so treat him as an enemy. He only summoneth his faction to be owners of the flaming Fire.” (35:6)
Iblis himself has explicitly declared his enmity toward the children of Adam.
Allah the Exalted says:
“He said: Seest Thou this (creature) whom Thou hast honoured above me, if Thou give me grace until the Day of Resurrection I verily will seize his seed, save but a few.” (17:62)
“He said: Seest Thou this (creature) whom Thou hast honoured above me, if Thou give me grace until the Day of Resurrection I verily will seize his seed, save but a few.” (17:62)
And his statement: "I will surely dominate his descendants."
Meaning: I will surely gain mastery over his descendants through temptation and misguidance.
And Allah the Exalted says:
“He said: My Lord! Because Thou hast sent me astray, I verily shall adorn the path of error for them in the earth, and shall mislead them every one,” (15:39)
"Except for Your chosen servants among them."
