I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
I embraced Islam after the conquest of Makkah.
I was an eloquent poet.
And a courageous knight.
One of the fierce and powerful warriors.
And a lover of battle.
It was enough for my name to be mentioned on the battlefield.
For terror to strike the hearts of the enemies.
I was a noble leader among my people.
And a man of great wealth.
For I possessed a thousand camels.
And a horse from the finest Arabian steeds.
Its name was al-Muhabbar.
Yet I left all of that behind.
And accompanied the Prophet, peace be upon him.
He prayed for me.
That my transaction would not be a loss.
I did not apostatize when Tulayha Ibn Khuwaylid did.
Whom the commoners of my tribe, Banu Asad, followed.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, directed me toward him.
To meet him and extinguish his sedition.
So I prepared to set out against him.
But just as I intended to engage Tulayha in combat.
The news of the death of the Prophet, peace be upon him, reached me.
So I returned with those who were with me to Madinah.
And when the Caliph Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, prepared.
The armies to fight the apostates.
And entrusted the banner to Khalid Ibn al-Walid, may Allah be pleased with him.
Ordering him to march to Buzakha.
To meet the apostates from Asad and Ghatafan.
I was one of the commanders of the troops in that army.
I fought the apostates from my own tribe.
Until Tulayha was defeated.
And the tribes of Asad and Ghatafan returned to Islam.
Khalid Ibn al-Walid, may Allah be pleased with him, used to.
Rely on me heavily.
In his conquests in the Levant.
To the extent that I became the second-in-command of the army.
After Khalid, may Allah be pleased with him.
In the Battle of Ajnadayn.
The number of the Byzantines was three times that of the Muslims.
As they numbered ninety thousand fighters.
While the number of the Muslims.
Was approximately thirty thousand fighters.
I displayed rare courage in this battle.
And caused a great slaughter.
In the ranks of the Byzantines.
Turning the scales of the battle in favor of the Muslims.
During the battle.
I took off my armor and my shirt.
Because I could move with more agility.
As soon as the enemies saw me bare-chested.
They coveted killing me.
And getting rid of me.
Thirty soldiers surrounded me.
I killed a number of them, and the rest fled.
So they gave me the nickname.
The Bare-Chested Devil.
Then I attacked the Byzantine commander, Wardan.
When he saw me heading toward him.
He knew that I was the Bare-Chested Devil.
For he had heard of me.
A fierce duel took place between us.
I struck him with my spear.
My spear pierced his chest.
And I finished him off until I severed his head.
I returned with his head to the Muslims.
And at that moment, a cry went out from the Muslim camp.
Allahu Akbar!
And the enemy was defeated.
In the Battle of Marj al-Saffar.
I met one of the Byzantine commanders.
Named Paul.
He wanted to avenge his companion, Wardan.
The duel began between us.
I struck him until he fell.
I raised my sword to kill him.
And he said.
"O Khalid, you kill me."
"Do not let this man kill me."
Khalid, may Allah be pleased with him, said to him.
"Rather, he is your killer and the killer of the Byzantines."
