Forty Hadiths on the Virtues of Charity. On the authority of Ibn 'Umar: A man came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and asked, "O Messenger of Allah, which people are most beloved to Allah, and which deeds are most beloved to Allah?" The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) replied: "The most beloved of people to Allah Almighty are those who are most beneficial to people. And the most beloved of deeds to Allah Almighty is joy that you bring to a fellow Muslim, or relieving him of distress, or settling a debt for him, or repelling his hunger. Walking with a brother to help fulfill his need is dearer to me than observing i'tikaf in this mosque— meaning the Mosque of Medina—for an entire month. Whoever restrains his anger, Allah will conceal his faults. And whoever suppresses his rage, when he could have easily vented it, Allah will fill his heart with hope on the Day of Resurrection. And whoever walks with his brother to assist him with a need until it is fully resolved for him, Allah will make his feet firm on the Day when feet slip."
