A serious challenge to who I am
I am one of the companions
From the Ansar
ومن النقباء ليلة العقبة
Who compiled the Qur’an during the time of the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace
فكنت أعلمه أهل الصفة
Caliph Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him, sent me to the Levant
To teach them the Qur’an and guide them in religion
I was the first to appoint a judge in Palestine
ثم إني رحلت إلى المدينة
فقال لي عمر
ما أقدمك
ارحل إلى مكانك
فقبح الله أرضا
لست فيها وأمثالك
I witnessed all the scenes with the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace
وشاركت في حروب الردة
And in the conquests during the reign of Omar, may God be pleased with him
When Omar Ibn Al-Asir, may God be pleased with him, sent him to ask for help
لإتمام فتح مصر
Omar sent four thousand men to him
At the head of every thousand of them is a wise leader
وكتب إليه يقول
إني أمددتك بأربعة آلاف رجل
For every thousand men, one for every thousand men
I was one of those four heroic leaders
I pledged allegiance to the Prophet, may God bless him and grant him peace, on the condition that I would not fear for God’s sake if he were compatible
Therefore, when a man praised the governor in the mosque in his presence
قمت إليه وحشوت فمه بالتراب
فغضب الوالي فقلت له
You were not with us when we pledged allegiance to the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, at Aqaba
To listen and obey in our activism and our compulsion
وأثرت علينا
وألا ننازع الأمر أهله
وأن نقوم بالحق حيث كنا
We do not fear God if He is compatible
And I heard the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, saying
إذا رأيتم المداحين
فاحثوا في أفواههم التراب
Who am I?
God willing
They left and asked me a question
Is there a star like them in the sky and its hills?
They filled their lives with pride in their actions
And the world of the ego has become apparent to them
