A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the Muhajirun (Emigrant) Companions.
I am the son of one of the greatest men among the Muslims.
I was an eloquent poet, known for my truthfulness.
I was never known to have told a lie, neither in the Age of Ignorance nor in Islam.
I was the bravest of the men of Quraysh and their most skilled archer.
I was among the finest horsemen of the Arabs in my time.
My conversion to Islam was delayed until the Treaty of Hudaybiyyah.
I embraced Islam during the period of the truce.
Then I migrated before the Conquest of Makkah and became one of the leaders of the Muslims.
The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, gave me a command during the Farewell Pilgrimage.
I accompanied my sister, ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, to perform ‘Umrah from al-Tan’im.
I witnessed the Battle of Badr on the side of the polytheists.
Before the two armies clashed,
I rode out to challenge the Muslims, calling for a duel.
My father wanted to come out to fight me,
But the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade him.
He said to him, "Let us enjoy your company."
I witnessed the Battle of Uhud after that.
I was the commander of the archers in the Meccan army.
After I embraced Islam,
I participated with the Messenger of Allah in his military expeditions.
And in the Islamic conquests alongside the Caliphs after him.
I participated with Khalid ibn al-Walid, may Allah be pleased with him, in the Wars of Apostasy.
On the day of al-Yamamah, I killed seven of the greatest leaders of the army of Musaylimah the Liar.
Among them was Muhakkam ibn al-Tufayl,
The mastermind behind Musaylimah.
He was standing at a small opening in the fortress.
I shot an arrow at him, struck him in the throat, and killed him.
The Muslims then entered through that opening.
They killed Musaylimah and his soldiers with him.
On the day the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, passed away,
I entered upon him while he was reclining in the lap of ‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her.
I had a fresh miswak (tooth stick) with me.
The Messenger of Allah looked at me,
As if he desired the miswak.
‘A’ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, realized this.
She said, "Shall I take it for you?"
He signaled with his head, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, that yes.
‘A’ishah took that miswak from me.
She offered it to him and softened it.
Then she handed it to the Messenger of Allah.
He used it to brush his teeth in the best possible manner.
Then he said,
"O Allah, to the Highest Companion."
Then he passed away, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
I lived after the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,
As a defender of Islam,
And an assistant to the Caliphs of the Muslims.
Then death overtook me near Makkah.
I was carried to Makkah and buried there.
