Surah al-Masad.
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
May the hands of Abu Lahab be ruined, and ruined is he.
“His wealth and gains will not exempt him.” (111:2)
“He will be plunged in flaming Fire,” (111:3)
And his wife, the carrier of firewood.
Around her neck is a rope of twisted fiber.
The hands of Abu Lahab have suffered loss, and he himself has suffered loss.
And his deeds have come to nothing.
What did his wealth avail him, or what did it ward off of the wrath of Allah from him?
And what he earned, which refers to his children.
Abu Lahab and his wife, the carrier of firewood, will enter a Fire.
A Fire of blazing flame.
Around her neck is a rope gathered from various types of material.
Regarding the words "the carrier of firewood,"
it means she used to carry thorns,
and cast them in the path of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
