WEBVTT 00:00:00.460 --> 00:00:02.459 Stories of the Prophets 00:00:02.459 --> 00:00:05.580 Stories of the Prophets— 00:00:05.580 --> 00:00:07.580 Peace be upon them. 00:00:07.580 --> 00:00:09.650 Blessings of Allah 00:00:09.650 --> 00:00:11.650 followed by 00:00:11.650 --> 00:00:13.650 peace 00:00:13.650 --> 00:00:15.650 be upon the best of all creation, 00:00:15.650 --> 00:00:17.649 altogether. 00:00:17.649 --> 00:00:20.190 They were resolute messengers, 00:00:20.190 --> 00:00:22.190 exalted in rank 00:00:22.190 --> 00:00:24.449 and full of light. 00:00:24.449 --> 00:00:26.929 The Story of Abraham (Ibn Turan), 00:00:26.929 --> 00:00:28.929 peace be upon him. 00:00:28.929 --> 00:00:33.649 In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. 00:00:33.649 --> 00:00:35.649 In the name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful. 00:00:35.649 --> 00:00:37.649 Praise be to Allah, Lord of all the worlds, 00:00:37.649 --> 00:00:39.649 and peace and blessings 00:00:39.649 --> 00:00:41.649 be upon our Prophet Muhammad, 00:00:41.649 --> 00:00:43.649 and upon his family and Companions 00:00:43.649 --> 00:00:45.649 all together. 00:00:45.649 --> 00:00:47.899 To proceed: 00:00:47.899 --> 00:00:49.899 In Mecca, the sacred land, 00:00:49.899 --> 00:00:51.899 alongside the Jurhum tribe— 00:00:51.899 --> 00:00:53.899 an Arab tribe— 00:00:53.899 --> 00:00:55.899 Hagar, the mother of Ishmael, lived 00:00:55.899 --> 00:00:57.899 with her son Ishmael. 00:00:57.899 --> 00:00:59.899 Meanwhile in Palestine, 00:00:59.899 --> 00:01:01.899 the blessed land, 00:01:01.899 --> 00:01:03.899 Abraham, 00:01:03.899 --> 00:01:05.900 peace be upon him, was living 00:01:05.900 --> 00:01:07.900 far away from his only son, 00:01:07.900 --> 00:01:09.900 whom he had long awaited. 00:01:09.900 --> 00:01:11.900 He was blessed with him in his old age, 00:01:11.900 --> 00:01:13.900 after long patience and supplication, 00:01:13.900 --> 00:01:15.900 a long time coming. 00:01:15.900 --> 00:01:17.900 So he loved him with an immense love, 00:01:17.900 --> 00:01:19.900 yet he 00:01:19.900 --> 00:01:21.900 was compelled to leave him in Mecca, 00:01:21.900 --> 00:01:23.900 far away from him, 00:01:23.900 --> 00:01:25.900 in compliance with the command of Allah Almighty. 00:01:25.900 --> 00:01:27.900 But he used to visit him 00:01:27.900 --> 00:01:31.090 from time to time. 00:01:31.090 --> 00:01:33.090 Ishmael, peace be upon him, 00:01:33.090 --> 00:01:35.090 grew up little by little, 00:01:35.090 --> 00:01:37.120 and when he reached 00:01:37.120 --> 00:01:39.120 the age of striving alongside him— 00:01:39.120 --> 00:01:41.120 that age 00:01:41.120 --> 00:01:43.120 when a child is dearest 00:01:43.120 --> 00:01:45.120 to his father, 00:01:45.120 --> 00:01:47.120 as he walks with him, goes out, 00:01:47.120 --> 00:01:49.120 and comes back, 00:01:49.120 --> 00:01:51.120 an age when the hardship of raising him has passed 00:01:51.120 --> 00:01:53.120 and his benefit has arrived— 00:01:53.120 --> 00:01:55.310 and just as 00:01:55.310 --> 00:01:57.310 his love had firmly taken root in his father's heart, 00:01:57.310 --> 00:01:59.310 Allah, Glorified and Exalted, willed 00:01:59.310 --> 00:02:01.310 to test the heart of His intimate friend, 00:02:01.310 --> 00:02:03.310 Abraham, peace be upon him, 00:02:03.310 --> 00:02:05.310 so that his heart might be purified exclusively 00:02:05.310 --> 00:02:07.310 for the love and intimacy of his Lord, 00:02:07.310 --> 00:02:09.310 transcending the love of 00:02:09.310 --> 00:02:11.310 anything besides Him. 00:02:11.310 --> 00:02:13.629 Abraham, peace be upon him, saw 00:02:13.629 --> 00:02:15.629 in a dream 00:02:15.629 --> 00:02:17.629 that he was sacrificing his son Ishmael. 00:02:17.629 --> 00:02:19.629 And the dreams of the prophets are 00:02:19.629 --> 00:02:21.759 divine truth. 00:02:21.759 --> 00:02:23.759 So what, one wonders, was 00:02:23.759 --> 00:02:25.759 Abraham's stance? 00:02:25.759 --> 00:02:28.080 He submitted, 00:02:28.080 --> 00:02:30.080 Abraham obeyed the command of his Lord 00:02:30.080 --> 00:02:32.240 and surrendered to His will. 00:02:32.240 --> 00:02:34.240 He came to his son, 00:02:34.240 --> 00:02:36.240 the apple of his eye, 00:02:36.240 --> 00:02:38.240 and said, 00:02:38.240 --> 00:02:40.240 "O my dear son, 00:02:40.240 --> 00:02:42.240 “And when (his son) was old enough to walk with him, (Abraham) said: O my dear son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice thee. So look, what thinkest thou? He said: O my father! Do that which thou art commanded. Allah willing, thou shalt find me of the steadfast.” (37:102) 00:02:42.240 --> 00:02:44.240 I have seen in a dream that I am to sacrifice you, 00:02:44.240 --> 00:02:46.340 so see what you think." 00:02:46.340 --> 00:02:48.340 He presented the matter to him gently 00:02:48.340 --> 00:02:50.340 so that it would be comforting to his heart 00:02:50.340 --> 00:02:52.340 and easier for him to bear, 00:02:52.340 --> 00:02:54.340 rather than taking him by force 00:02:54.340 --> 00:02:56.590 and slaughtering him against his will. 00:02:56.590 --> 00:02:58.590 And the reply came from 00:02:58.590 --> 00:03:00.590 the dutiful and gentle son, 00:03:00.590 --> 00:03:02.590 both having surrendered to the command of Allah, 00:03:02.590 --> 00:03:04.590 the Most High, the Supreme: 00:03:04.590 --> 00:03:06.590 "O my father, do what 00:03:06.590 --> 00:03:08.590 you are commanded; 00:03:08.590 --> 00:03:10.590 for we have no choice but to obey Him. 00:03:10.590 --> 00:03:12.590 No escape. 00:03:12.590 --> 00:03:14.590 You will find me, if Allah wills, 00:03:14.590 --> 00:03:17.740 to be of the patient." 00:03:17.740 --> 00:03:19.740 Ah, if only I knew— 00:03:19.740 --> 00:03:21.740 should we marvel at a father 00:03:21.740 --> 00:03:23.740 who is about to slaughter his son, 00:03:23.740 --> 00:03:25.740 or marvel at a son who willingly agrees, 00:03:25.740 --> 00:03:27.740 aiding his father 00:03:27.740 --> 00:03:29.740 in seeking the pleasure of his Creator? 00:03:29.740 --> 00:03:31.939 Truly, 00:03:31.939 --> 00:03:33.939 “And when a token cometh unto them, they say: We will not believe till we are given that which Allah's messengers are given. Allah knoweth best with whom to place His message. Humiliation from Allah and heavy punishment will smite the guilty for their scheming.” (6:124) 00:03:33.939 --> 00:03:36.449 it was his divine mission. 00:03:36.449 --> 00:03:38.449 The father went out with his son, 00:03:38.449 --> 00:03:40.449 the very piece of his heart. 00:03:40.449 --> 00:03:42.449 He went out, knife in hand, 00:03:42.449 --> 00:03:44.449 to slaughter his son as an offering 00:03:44.449 --> 00:03:46.449 to Allah, Lord of all the worlds. 00:03:46.449 --> 00:03:48.699 At those critical moments, 00:03:48.699 --> 00:03:50.699 Satan appeared to them 00:03:50.699 --> 00:03:52.699 on the road, 00:03:52.699 --> 00:03:54.699 in the guise of a well-wishing man, 00:03:54.699 --> 00:03:56.699 and spoke to them both 00:03:56.699 --> 00:03:58.699 to turn them away from the command of 00:03:58.699 --> 00:04:00.860 their Lord. 00:04:00.860 --> 00:04:02.860 He tried to appeal to the heart 00:04:02.860 --> 00:04:04.990 of Abraham out of compassion for his son, 00:04:04.990 --> 00:04:06.990 but Abraham, peace be upon him, pelted him 00:04:06.990 --> 00:04:08.990 with seven pebbles, 00:04:08.990 --> 00:04:10.990 and Satan turned back in flight. 00:04:10.990 --> 00:04:13.020 Then Abraham 00:04:13.020 --> 00:04:15.020 and Ishmael, peace be upon them both, 00:04:15.020 --> 00:04:17.120 continued on their way. 00:04:17.120 --> 00:04:19.120 Satan appeared to them 00:04:19.120 --> 00:04:21.120 once again, 00:04:21.120 --> 00:04:23.120 trying to dissuade the son from obedience, 00:04:23.120 --> 00:04:25.250 so Abraham, 00:04:25.250 --> 00:04:27.250 peace be upon him, pelted him again 00:04:27.250 --> 00:04:29.250 with seven pebbles, 00:04:29.250 --> 00:04:31.500 and he sank into the ground. 00:04:31.500 --> 00:04:33.500 Then he appeared to them a third time, 00:04:33.500 --> 00:04:35.500 trying 00:04:35.500 --> 00:04:37.500 to influence them by playing on the plight of 00:04:37.500 --> 00:04:39.500 Ishmael's mother— 00:04:39.500 --> 00:04:41.500 how would the poor woman fare 00:04:41.500 --> 00:04:43.569 when she learned of her son's death? 00:04:43.569 --> 00:04:45.569 So Abraham, 00:04:45.569 --> 00:04:47.569 the intimate friend of Allah, pelted him again with seven pebbles, 00:04:47.569 --> 00:04:49.569 and he sank into the ground, 00:04:49.569 --> 00:04:52.110 never to return. 00:04:52.110 --> 00:04:54.110 When they reached the place 00:04:54.110 --> 00:04:56.110 they intended, 00:04:56.110 --> 00:04:58.110 fully surrendered to the command of Allah, Glorified and Exalted, 00:04:58.110 --> 00:05:00.110 and resolved 00:05:00.110 --> 00:05:02.110 to carry out what they had been commanded, 00:05:02.110 --> 00:05:04.110 at that moment, 00:05:04.110 --> 00:05:06.110 Abraham laid his son, 00:05:06.110 --> 00:05:08.110 Ishmael, prostrate on his face, 00:05:08.110 --> 00:05:10.110 placing his forehead 00:05:10.110 --> 00:05:12.110 on the ground. 00:05:12.110 --> 00:05:14.110 He intended to sacrifice him from behind his neck, 00:05:14.110 --> 00:05:16.110 so that his eyes would not meet 00:05:16.110 --> 00:05:18.110 the eyes of his son 00:05:18.110 --> 00:05:20.399 and cause his resolve to falter. 00:05:20.399 --> 00:05:22.399 Thus the execution began: 00:05:22.399 --> 00:05:24.399 Abraham, peace be upon him, invoked the name of Allah 00:05:24.399 --> 00:05:26.399 and magnified Him, 00:05:26.399 --> 00:05:28.399 while the boy recited the testimony of faith 00:05:28.399 --> 00:05:30.660 facing death with patient endurance. 00:05:30.660 --> 00:05:32.660 Abraham passed the knife 00:05:32.660 --> 00:05:34.660 over the neck of his son, 00:05:34.660 --> 00:05:36.689 but it would not cut. 00:05:36.689 --> 00:05:38.689 He tried again and again, 00:05:38.689 --> 00:05:40.689 yet the decree of Allah is supreme: 00:05:40.689 --> 00:05:42.689 fire does not burn 00:05:42.689 --> 00:05:44.689 nor does the knife 00:05:44.689 --> 00:05:46.689 cut unless He wills. 00:05:46.689 --> 00:05:48.689 For Allah is predominant over His affair. 00:05:48.689 --> 00:05:51.009 At that moment, 00:05:51.009 --> 00:05:53.009 the intimate friend was called from the heavens: 00:05:53.009 --> 00:05:55.009 "O Abraham, 00:05:55.009 --> 00:05:57.009 you have indeed fulfilled the vision! 00:05:57.009 --> 00:05:59.009 You confirmed it in your heart, 00:05:59.009 --> 00:06:01.009 and you confirmed it 00:06:01.009 --> 00:06:03.040 through your action. 00:06:03.040 --> 00:06:05.040 The purpose of your test has been fulfilled through your readiness 00:06:05.040 --> 00:06:07.040 and swift response to 00:06:07.040 --> 00:06:09.040 the command of your Lord, 00:06:09.040 --> 00:06:11.040 offering your child as a sacrifice; 00:06:11.040 --> 00:06:13.040 indeed, you both passed the trial." 00:06:13.040 --> 00:06:15.170 And Allah provided 00:06:15.170 --> 00:06:17.170 for Abraham, peace be upon him, 00:06:17.170 --> 00:06:19.170 in place of his son, 00:06:19.170 --> 00:06:21.170 a ram to slaughter instead of his son. 00:06:21.170 --> 00:06:23.360 So Abraham, peace be upon him, 00:06:23.360 --> 00:06:25.360 sacrificed it, 00:06:25.360 --> 00:06:27.360 and the ritual sacrifice thereafter became 00:06:27.360 --> 00:06:29.360 a Sunnah for the Muslims. 00:06:29.360 --> 00:06:32.290 Ibn al-Qayyim, 00:06:32.290 --> 00:06:34.350 may Allah have mercy on him, said: 00:06:34.350 --> 00:06:36.350 "When he offered his son for Allah's sake, 00:06:36.350 --> 00:06:38.350 and the son offered 00:06:38.350 --> 00:06:40.350 himself for Allah's sake, 00:06:40.350 --> 00:06:42.350 Allah multiplied his offspring, 00:06:42.350 --> 00:06:44.350 blessed it, 00:06:44.350 --> 00:06:46.350 and increased it until it filled the earth, 00:06:47.350 --> 00:06:49.350 placing prophethood and the Scripture 00:06:49.350 --> 00:06:51.350 exclusively within his lineage, 00:06:51.350 --> 00:06:53.350 and bringing forth from among them 00:06:53.350 --> 00:06:54.350 Muhammad, 00:06:54.350 --> 00:06:56.350 Peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. 00:06:56.350 --> 00:06:58.899 Allah the Almighty said: 00:06:58.899 --> 00:07:00.959 "My Lord, grant me 00:07:00.959 --> 00:07:02.959 [a child] from among the righteous." 00:07:04.959 --> 00:07:06.959 So We gave him good tidings of a boy 00:07:06.959 --> 00:07:08.959 who was forbearing. 00:07:08.959 --> 00:07:10.959 And when 00:07:10.959 --> 00:07:12.959 he reached with him the age of exertion, 00:07:12.959 --> 00:07:14.959 he said, "O my son, 00:07:14.959 --> 00:07:16.959 O my son, 00:07:16.959 --> 00:07:18.959 “And when (his son) was old enough to walk with him, (Abraham) said: O my dear son, I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice thee. So look, what thinkest thou? He said: O my father! Do that which thou art commanded. 00:07:32.959 --> 00:07:34.959 you will find me, 00:07:34.959 --> 00:07:36.959 if wills 00:07:36.959 --> 00:07:38.959 Allah, 00:07:38.959 --> 00:07:40.959 among the patient." 00:07:40.959 --> 00:07:42.959 And when 00:07:42.959 --> 00:07:44.959 they had both submitted and he put him down 00:07:44.959 --> 00:07:46.959 upon his forehead, 00:07:46.959 --> 00:07:48.959 We called out to him, 00:07:48.959 --> 00:07:50.959 "O 00:07:50.959 --> 00:07:52.959 Abraham, 00:07:52.959 --> 00:07:54.959 You have fulfilled 00:07:54.959 --> 00:07:56.959 the vision." 00:07:56.959 --> 00:07:58.959 Indeed, We thus 00:07:58.959 --> 00:08:00.959 reward the doers of good. 00:08:00.959 --> 00:08:02.959 Indeed, 00:08:02.959 --> 00:08:04.959 this was 00:08:04.959 --> 00:08:06.959 the trial, 00:08:06.959 --> 00:08:08.959 clear and manifest. 00:08:08.959 --> 00:08:10.959 And We ransomed him 00:08:10.959 --> 00:08:12.959 with a great sacrifice. 00:08:12.959 --> 00:08:16.339 Then he departed, 00:08:16.339 --> 00:08:18.339 Abraham (peace be upon him), 00:08:18.339 --> 00:08:20.339 to the land of Palestine. 00:08:20.339 --> 00:08:22.339 And he stayed there as long as willed 00:08:22.339 --> 00:08:24.339 Allah, then he came 00:08:24.339 --> 00:08:26.339 after that to Mecca 00:08:26.339 --> 00:08:28.339 to visit his son. 00:08:28.339 --> 00:08:30.339 He found him sharpening an arrow 00:08:30.339 --> 00:08:32.340 under a tree near 00:08:32.340 --> 00:08:34.370 the water of Zamzam. 00:08:34.370 --> 00:08:36.370 When Ishmael saw him, 00:08:36.370 --> 00:08:38.370 he stood up to greet him, 00:08:38.370 --> 00:08:40.370 and he did as a father does 00:08:40.370 --> 00:08:42.370 with his son, and a son with his father. 00:08:42.370 --> 00:08:44.529 Then said 00:08:44.529 --> 00:08:46.529 Abraham (peace be upon him) 00:08:46.529 --> 00:08:48.529 to his son, 00:08:48.529 --> 00:08:50.529 "O Ishmael, 00:08:50.529 --> 00:08:52.559 indeed Allah has commanded me with a matter." 00:08:52.559 --> 00:08:54.559 Ishmael replied, 00:08:54.559 --> 00:08:56.750 "Then do what your Lord has commanded you." 00:08:56.750 --> 00:08:58.750 He asked, 00:08:58.750 --> 00:09:00.750 "And will you assist me?" 00:09:00.750 --> 00:09:02.820 He answered, "Yes, I will assist you." 00:09:02.820 --> 00:09:04.820 He said, 00:09:04.820 --> 00:09:06.820 "Indeed, Allah has commanded me to build for Him 00:09:06.820 --> 00:09:08.820 a House right here," 00:09:08.820 --> 00:09:10.820 pointing to a raised mound of soil 00:09:10.820 --> 00:09:12.820 elevated above its surroundings 00:09:12.820 --> 00:09:15.009 of the ground. 00:09:15.009 --> 00:09:17.009 So Ishmael responded to his father, 00:09:17.009 --> 00:09:19.009 and he began to work, 00:09:19.009 --> 00:09:21.039 raising the foundations 00:09:21.039 --> 00:09:23.070 of the House. 00:09:23.070 --> 00:09:25.070 Ishmael began bringing 00:09:25.070 --> 00:09:27.070 the stones, 00:09:27.070 --> 00:09:29.070 while Abraham was building, 00:09:29.070 --> 00:09:31.070 until when the structure grew high, 00:09:31.070 --> 00:09:33.070 Ishmael brought this 00:09:33.070 --> 00:09:35.070 stone and placed it 00:09:35.070 --> 00:09:37.070 for him, so he stood upon it— 00:09:37.070 --> 00:09:39.070 Abraham—while he was building. 00:09:39.070 --> 00:09:41.070 So it is now 00:09:41.070 --> 00:09:43.200 the Station of Abraham (Maqam Ibrahim). 00:09:43.200 --> 00:09:45.200 And both of them continued building the House, 00:09:45.200 --> 00:09:47.200 supplicating, 00:09:47.200 --> 00:09:49.200 "Our Lord, accept from us; 00:09:49.200 --> 00:09:51.200 indeed, You are the Hearing, 00:09:51.200 --> 00:09:53.259 the Knowing." 00:09:53.259 --> 00:09:55.259 And the footprints of 00:09:55.259 --> 00:09:57.259 Abraham (peace be upon him) were imprinted 00:09:57.259 --> 00:09:59.259 upon the stone on which he used to stand 00:09:59.259 --> 00:10:01.259 while building the House. 00:10:01.259 --> 00:10:03.259 Thus, Allah immortalized this 00:10:03.259 --> 00:10:05.259 stone, 00:10:05.259 --> 00:10:07.259 commanding us to take it as a place of prayer, 00:10:07.259 --> 00:10:09.259 praying behind it 00:10:09.259 --> 00:10:11.259 after circumambulating the House. 00:10:11.259 --> 00:10:14.129 Then Allah the Almighty commanded 00:10:14.129 --> 00:10:16.129 Abraham (peace be upon him) 00:10:16.129 --> 00:10:18.129 to proclaim among the people 00:10:18.129 --> 00:10:20.129 to journey to this Sacred 00:10:20.129 --> 00:10:22.129 House and to perform 00:10:22.129 --> 00:10:24.190 the rites therein. 00:10:24.190 --> 00:10:26.190 Abraham said, 00:10:26.190 --> 00:10:28.190 "How far can my voice reach?" 00:10:28.190 --> 00:10:30.190 So Allah the Almighty said, 00:10:30.190 --> 00:10:32.190 "Your duty is to call, 00:10:32.190 --> 00:10:34.450 and Ours is to convey." 00:10:34.450 --> 00:10:36.450 So Abraham (peace be upon him) stood 00:10:36.450 --> 00:10:38.450 upon Mount Abu Qubays, 00:10:38.450 --> 00:10:40.450 placed his two fingers 00:10:40.450 --> 00:10:42.450 in his ears, 00:10:42.450 --> 00:10:44.450 and turned his face to the right, 00:10:44.450 --> 00:10:46.450 to the left, to the east, 00:10:46.450 --> 00:10:48.450 and to the west, shouting: 00:10:48.450 --> 00:10:50.450 "O people! 00:10:50.450 --> 00:10:52.450 Indeed, your Lord 00:10:52.450 --> 00:10:54.450 has built a House for you, 00:10:54.450 --> 00:10:56.450 and has prescribed upon you 00:10:56.450 --> 00:10:58.450 the pilgrimage to this House, 00:10:58.450 --> 00:11:00.450 so respond to your Lord!" 00:11:00.450 --> 00:11:02.509 And he was answered by 00:11:02.509 --> 00:11:04.509 everyone destined to perform pilgrimage, 00:11:04.509 --> 00:11:06.509 from the loins of the fathers 00:11:06.509 --> 00:11:08.509 and the wombs of the mothers: 00:11:08.509 --> 00:11:10.509 "Labbayk Allahumma 00:11:10.509 --> 00:11:12.769 labbayk" (Here I am, O Allah, at Your service, here I am). 00:11:12.769 --> 00:11:14.769 And Abraham (peace be upon him) prayed 00:11:14.769 --> 00:11:16.769 for blessing upon the people of Mecca, 00:11:16.769 --> 00:11:18.769 and Allah answered 00:11:18.769 --> 00:11:20.769 his supplication, 00:11:20.769 --> 00:11:22.769 so Mecca became a blessed land, 00:11:22.769 --> 00:11:24.769 its provision coming to it from everywhere; 00:11:24.769 --> 00:11:26.769 “Allah coineth a similitude: a township that dwelt secure and well content, its provision coming to it in abundance from every side, but it disbelieved in Allah's favours, so Allah made it experience the garb of dearth and fear because of what they used to do.” (16:112) 00:11:26.769 --> 00:11:28.830 and he prayed, "And make it also 00:11:28.830 --> 00:11:30.830 a land of security," 00:11:30.830 --> 00:11:32.830 so that whoever enters it fears neither for himself 00:11:32.830 --> 00:11:34.830 nor for his wealth. 00:11:34.830 --> 00:11:37.059 Then Abraham returned, 00:11:37.059 --> 00:11:39.059 peace be upon him, 00:11:39.059 --> 00:11:41.059 to the land of Palestine 00:11:41.059 --> 00:11:43.059 after completing the mission 00:11:43.059 --> 00:11:46.690 and calling the nation. 00:11:46.690 --> 00:11:48.690 And one day, 00:11:48.690 --> 00:11:50.690 the angels came to Abraham 00:11:50.690 --> 00:11:52.690 (peace be upon him) in 00:11:52.690 --> 00:11:54.690 the form of guests. 00:11:54.690 --> 00:11:56.690 They entered upon him while he did not know them, 00:11:56.690 --> 00:11:58.690 and he (peace be upon him) was 00:11:58.690 --> 00:12:00.690 noble and hospitable. 00:12:00.690 --> 00:12:02.690 So he went swiftly and stealthily 00:12:02.690 --> 00:12:04.690 and slaughtered for them a calf, 00:12:04.690 --> 00:12:06.690 fat and well-fed, 00:12:06.690 --> 00:12:08.690 then roasted it over the fire, 00:12:08.690 --> 00:12:10.690 then presented it to his guests 00:12:10.690 --> 00:12:12.690 for them to eat from it. 00:12:12.690 --> 00:12:14.750 But these 00:12:14.750 --> 00:12:16.750 guests were not 00:12:16.750 --> 00:12:18.750 like other guests; 00:12:18.750 --> 00:12:20.820 for when he placed 00:12:20.820 --> 00:12:22.820 the food before them, 00:12:22.820 --> 00:12:24.820 they did not stretch their hands toward it 00:12:24.820 --> 00:12:26.820 and did not eat from it. 00:12:26.820 --> 00:12:28.820 So Abraham (peace be upon him) grew fearful 00:12:28.820 --> 00:12:30.820 of them, 00:12:30.820 --> 00:12:32.820 because it was customary 00:12:32.820 --> 00:12:34.820 that a guest 00:12:34.820 --> 00:12:36.820 who does not eat the food 00:12:36.820 --> 00:12:38.820 presented to him 00:12:38.820 --> 00:12:40.820 must harbor ill intent 00:12:40.820 --> 00:12:42.820 toward his host, or harbor 00:12:42.820 --> 00:12:44.980 resentment against him. 00:12:44.980 --> 00:12:46.980 When the angels perceived from 00:12:46.980 --> 00:12:48.980 Abraham (peace be upon him) 00:12:48.980 --> 00:12:50.980 his fear, they reassured him 00:12:50.980 --> 00:12:52.980 and informed him that they were 00:12:52.980 --> 00:12:55.009 angels 00:12:55.009 --> 00:12:57.009 sent by Allah the Almighty 00:12:57.009 --> 00:12:59.009 to bring upon the people of Lot 00:12:59.009 --> 00:13:01.009 punishment and destruction. 00:13:01.009 --> 00:13:03.100 They also gave him good tidings 00:13:03.100 --> 00:13:05.100 of Sarah giving birth 00:13:05.100 --> 00:13:07.100 to their son, 00:13:07.100 --> 00:13:09.100 Isaac (peace be upon him), 00:13:09.100 --> 00:13:11.100 and after Isaac, 00:13:11.100 --> 00:13:13.100 Jacob (peace be upon him). 00:13:13.100 --> 00:13:15.490 Allah the Almighty said: 00:13:15.490 --> 00:13:17.490 "And certainly there came 00:13:17.490 --> 00:13:19.490 Our messengers 00:13:19.490 --> 00:13:21.490 to Abraham with good tidings; 00:13:21.490 --> 00:13:23.490 they said, 'Peace.' 00:13:23.490 --> 00:13:25.490 He said, 'Peace,' 00:13:25.490 --> 00:13:27.490 and did not delay in 00:13:27.490 --> 00:13:29.490 bringing 00:13:29.490 --> 00:13:31.490 a roasted calf. 00:13:31.490 --> 00:13:33.490 But when 00:13:33.490 --> 00:13:35.490 he saw their hands 00:13:35.490 --> 00:13:37.490 not reaching toward it, 00:13:37.490 --> 00:13:39.490 he felt distrust toward them 00:13:39.490 --> 00:13:41.490 and conceived 00:13:41.490 --> 00:13:43.490 a fear of them. 00:13:43.490 --> 00:13:45.490 They said, "Fear not, 00:13:45.490 --> 00:13:47.490 for we have been sent 00:13:47.490 --> 00:13:49.490 to the people of Lot." 00:13:49.490 --> 00:13:51.490 And his wife 00:13:51.490 --> 00:13:53.490 was standing by, 00:13:53.490 --> 00:13:55.490 standing by, 00:13:55.490 --> 00:13:57.490 and she laughed. 00:13:57.490 --> 00:13:59.490 So We gave her good tidings 00:13:59.490 --> 00:14:01.490 of Isaac, 00:14:01.490 --> 00:14:03.490 and We gave her good tidings 00:14:03.490 --> 00:14:05.490 of Isaac, 00:14:05.490 --> 00:14:07.490 and after 00:14:07.490 --> 00:14:09.490 Isaac, Jacob. 00:14:09.490 --> 00:14:11.490 She said, "Woe unto me! 00:14:11.490 --> 00:14:13.490 Shall I bear a child when I am 00:14:13.490 --> 00:14:15.490 an old woman, 00:14:15.490 --> 00:14:17.490 and this husband of mine 00:14:17.490 --> 00:14:19.779 is an old man? 00:14:19.779 --> 00:14:21.779 Indeed, this is a strange thing!" 00:14:21.779 --> 00:14:23.779 They said, 00:14:23.779 --> 00:14:25.779 "Do you wonder at 00:14:25.779 --> 00:14:27.779 the decree of Allah? 00:14:27.779 --> 00:14:29.779 May the mercy of Allah 00:14:29.779 --> 00:14:31.779 and His blessings be upon you, 00:14:31.779 --> 00:14:33.779 O people of the house! 00:14:33.779 --> 00:14:36.990 Indeed, He is Praiseworthy, 00:14:36.990 --> 00:14:38.990 Glorious." 00:14:38.990 --> 00:14:41.600 Abraham, peace be upon him, lived 00:14:41.600 --> 00:14:43.600 Abraham, peace be upon him, 00:14:43.600 --> 00:14:45.600 after that in Palestine 00:14:45.600 --> 00:14:47.600 for as long as Allah had decreed for him 00:14:47.600 --> 00:14:49.600 to live, 00:14:49.600 --> 00:14:51.600 until he lived to see his grandson Jacob, 00:14:51.600 --> 00:14:53.759 peace be upon him. 00:14:53.759 --> 00:14:55.759 It has been authentically established that Abraham, 00:14:55.759 --> 00:14:57.759 peace be upon him, was circumcised 00:14:57.759 --> 00:14:59.759 when he was eighty 00:14:59.759 --> 00:15:01.759 years old. And we were informed by 00:15:01.759 --> 00:15:03.759 the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:15:03.759 --> 00:15:05.759 that he was the most resembling 00:15:05.759 --> 00:15:07.759 of people to his forefather Abraham, 00:15:07.759 --> 00:15:09.820 peace be upon him. 00:15:09.820 --> 00:15:11.820 And Abraham, peace and blessings be upon him, had been favored by 00:15:11.820 --> 00:15:13.820 peace be upon him, 00:15:13.820 --> 00:15:15.820 Allah Almighty, Who honored him, 00:15:15.820 --> 00:15:17.820 chose him, and perfected 00:15:17.820 --> 00:15:19.820 His favor upon him: 00:15:19.820 --> 00:15:21.820 that he was a truthful prophet; 00:15:21.820 --> 00:15:23.820 He described him as righteous, 00:15:23.820 --> 00:15:25.820 forbearing, 00:15:25.820 --> 00:15:27.820 compassionate, 00:15:27.820 --> 00:15:29.820 and sound 00:15:29.820 --> 00:15:31.820 of heart; 00:15:31.820 --> 00:15:33.820 and that He had granted him right judgment; 00:15:33.820 --> 00:15:35.820 and that Abraham, peace be upon him, 00:15:35.820 --> 00:15:37.820 fulfilled all his duties; 00:15:37.820 --> 00:15:39.889 and that He, Glorified and Exalted is He, 00:15:39.889 --> 00:15:41.889 exalted his 00:15:41.889 --> 00:15:43.889 status, 00:15:43.889 --> 00:15:45.889 and took him from among 00:15:45.889 --> 00:15:49.009 all creation as an intimate friend. 00:15:49.009 --> 00:15:51.009 The Jews and the Christians disputed concerning Abraham, peace be upon him, 00:15:51.009 --> 00:15:53.009 concerning Abraham, peace be upon him, 00:15:53.009 --> 00:15:55.009 each group 00:15:55.009 --> 00:15:57.009 claiming affiliation to him, 00:15:57.009 --> 00:15:59.009 and that he, peace be upon him, 00:15:59.009 --> 00:16:01.009 was one of them. 00:16:01.009 --> 00:16:03.009 So Allah Exalted absolved him 00:16:03.009 --> 00:16:05.009 of that, saying: 00:16:05.009 --> 00:16:07.009 "Abraham was not 00:16:07.009 --> 00:16:09.009 a Jew, nor 00:16:09.009 --> 00:16:11.009 a Christian, 00:16:11.009 --> 00:16:13.009 nor a Christian, 00:16:13.009 --> 00:16:15.009 but 00:16:15.009 --> 00:16:17.009 he was an upright 00:16:17.009 --> 00:16:19.009 Muslim, 00:16:19.009 --> 00:16:21.009 but 00:16:21.009 --> 00:16:23.009 he was an upright 00:16:23.009 --> 00:16:25.009 Muslim, 00:16:25.009 --> 00:16:27.009 and he was not of the polytheists." 00:16:29.259 --> 00:16:31.259 And Allah Almighty informed us 00:16:31.259 --> 00:16:33.259 that the closest of people 00:16:33.259 --> 00:16:35.259 to Abraham, peace be upon him, 00:16:35.259 --> 00:16:37.259 are those who followed him, 00:16:37.259 --> 00:16:39.259 and our Prophet Muhammad, 00:16:39.259 --> 00:16:41.259 peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:16:41.259 --> 00:16:43.299 and the believers of his Ummah; 00:16:43.299 --> 00:16:45.299 these are they. 00:16:46.490 --> 00:16:48.809 The Almighty said: 00:16:48.809 --> 00:16:51.809 "Indeed, the closest of people 00:16:51.809 --> 00:16:53.809 to Abraham 00:16:53.809 --> 00:16:55.809 are those who followed him, 00:16:55.809 --> 00:16:57.809 and this Prophet, 00:16:57.809 --> 00:16:59.809 and this Prophet, 00:16:59.809 --> 00:17:01.809 and those who 00:17:01.809 --> 00:17:03.809 believe. 00:17:03.809 --> 00:17:05.809 And Allah is the Ally 00:17:05.809 --> 00:17:09.950 of the believers." 00:17:09.950 --> 00:17:11.950 Allah Almighty has mentioned 00:17:11.950 --> 00:17:13.950 Abraham, peace be upon him, 00:17:13.950 --> 00:17:15.950 sixty-nine times in the Qur'an. 00:17:15.950 --> 00:17:17.950 Among the most important lessons 00:17:17.950 --> 00:17:19.950 and morals derived 00:17:19.950 --> 00:17:21.950 from his story, peace be upon him, are: 00:17:21.950 --> 00:17:24.460 First: 00:17:24.460 --> 00:17:26.460 We are commanded 00:17:26.460 --> 00:17:28.460 to follow Abraham, peace be upon him; 00:17:28.460 --> 00:17:30.460 for Allah Almighty said: 00:17:30.460 --> 00:17:32.460 "There has already been for you 00:17:32.460 --> 00:17:34.460 an excellent pattern 00:17:34.460 --> 00:17:36.460 in Abraham and those 00:17:36.460 --> 00:17:38.460 with him." 00:17:38.460 --> 00:17:40.460 Therefore, we must delve deeply 00:17:40.460 --> 00:17:42.460 into studying his biography, peace be upon him, 00:17:42.460 --> 00:17:44.460 so that we may follow him properly. 00:17:44.460 --> 00:17:47.170 Second: 00:17:47.170 --> 00:17:49.170 The best of exhortations 00:17:49.170 --> 00:17:51.170 are those with which Abraham, peace be upon him, enjoined 00:17:51.170 --> 00:17:53.170 his sons, 00:17:53.170 --> 00:17:55.170 when he said to them: 00:17:55.170 --> 00:17:57.170 “The same did Abraham enjoin upon his sons, and also Jacob, (saying): O my sons! Lo! Allah hath chosen for you the (true) religion; therefore die not save as men who have surrendered (unto Him).” (2:132) 00:17:57.170 --> 00:17:59.170 "So remain steadfast upon it, 00:17:59.170 --> 00:18:01.170 and do not die except 00:18:01.170 --> 00:18:04.059 while you are Muslims." 00:18:04.059 --> 00:18:06.059 Third: 00:18:06.059 --> 00:18:08.059 Generous hospitality, 00:18:08.059 --> 00:18:10.059 as demonstrated by him in the incident 00:18:10.059 --> 00:18:12.059 of the angel guests, 00:18:12.059 --> 00:18:14.059 which contains many manners 00:18:14.059 --> 00:18:16.059 for whoever reflects upon them, 00:18:16.059 --> 00:18:18.059 such as greeting with peace and honoring guests. 00:18:18.059 --> 00:18:20.769 Fourth: 00:18:20.769 --> 00:18:22.769 Allah Almighty's generosity 00:18:22.769 --> 00:18:24.769 toward His allies, 00:18:24.769 --> 00:18:26.769 as He protected them during trials 00:18:26.769 --> 00:18:28.769 and granted them, as a reward for 00:18:28.769 --> 00:18:30.769 their patience, the offspring they longed for. 00:18:30.769 --> 00:18:33.859 Fifth: 00:18:33.859 --> 00:18:35.859 The prescribed nature of migration for the sake of Allah; 00:18:35.859 --> 00:18:37.859 if a person is persecuted 00:18:37.859 --> 00:18:39.859 in his religion in a land, 00:18:39.859 --> 00:18:41.859 he must migrate 00:18:41.859 --> 00:18:43.859 from that land, 00:18:43.859 --> 00:18:45.859 just as the Prophet of Allah, Abraham, 00:18:45.859 --> 00:18:48.980 peace be upon him, did. 00:18:48.980 --> 00:18:51.009 Sixth: 00:18:51.009 --> 00:18:53.009 Absolute trust in the victory of Allah Almighty, 00:18:53.009 --> 00:18:55.009 even if it takes a long time. 00:18:55.009 --> 00:18:57.009 For Abraham, peace be upon him, 00:18:57.009 --> 00:18:59.009 said as he was being thrown into the fire: 00:18:59.009 --> 00:19:01.009 "Sufficient for me is Allah, and He is the best 00:19:01.009 --> 00:19:03.009 Disposer of affairs." 00:19:03.009 --> 00:19:05.009 And so victory came from Allah, Mighty and Majestic. 00:19:05.009 --> 00:19:07.329 Seventh: 00:19:07.329 --> 00:19:09.329 Whoever fears Allah, 00:19:09.329 --> 00:19:11.329 He will make for him a way out; 00:19:11.329 --> 00:19:13.329 for Allah saved Sarah 00:19:13.329 --> 00:19:15.329 from that tyrannical, 00:19:15.329 --> 00:19:17.329 oppressive king, 00:19:17.329 --> 00:19:19.329 and Allah protected Hagar 00:19:19.329 --> 00:19:21.329 in that barren valley 00:19:21.329 --> 00:19:23.329 wherein there was 00:19:23.329 --> 00:19:26.220 neither vegetation nor water. 00:19:26.220 --> 00:19:28.220 Eighth: 00:19:28.220 --> 00:19:30.220 Trials and tribulations 00:19:30.220 --> 00:19:32.220 are sent by Allah, Glorified and Exalted, upon His creation; 00:19:32.220 --> 00:19:34.220 a person is tested in accordance with 00:19:34.220 --> 00:19:36.220 the strength of his faith. 00:19:36.220 --> 00:19:38.220 Therefore, the people afflicted with the severely 00:19:38.220 --> 00:19:40.220 tested are the prophets, 00:19:40.220 --> 00:19:42.220 then the next best, then the next best. 00:19:42.220 --> 00:19:44.220 And when Allah loves a servant, 00:19:44.220 --> 00:19:46.220 He tests him 00:19:46.220 --> 00:19:48.220 to elevate his rank 00:19:48.220 --> 00:19:51.150 with Him. 00:19:51.150 --> 00:19:53.180 Ninth: 00:19:53.180 --> 00:19:55.180 The noble standing of Abraham with Allah Almighty. 00:19:55.180 --> 00:19:57.250 For Abraham, 00:19:57.250 --> 00:19:59.250 peace be upon him, prayed 00:19:59.250 --> 00:20:01.250 that Allah would not disgrace him on the Day they are resurrected, 00:20:01.250 --> 00:20:03.250 and Allah answered 00:20:03.250 --> 00:20:05.380 his supplication. 00:20:05.380 --> 00:20:07.440 It was narrated in the tradition: 00:20:07.440 --> 00:20:09.440 Abraham will meet his father 00:20:09.440 --> 00:20:11.440 Azar on the Day of Resurrection, 00:20:11.440 --> 00:20:13.440 and Azar's face will be covered with darkness 00:20:13.440 --> 00:20:15.539 and dust. 00:20:15.539 --> 00:20:17.539 Abraham will say to him, 00:20:17.539 --> 00:20:19.539 "Did I not tell you 00:20:19.539 --> 00:20:21.539 not to disobey me?" 00:20:21.539 --> 00:20:23.539 His father will reply, 00:20:23.539 --> 00:20:25.789 "Today I will not disobey you." 00:20:25.789 --> 00:20:27.789 Abraham will then say, 00:20:27.789 --> 00:20:29.789 "O Lord!
