A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
The Age of Ignorance (Jahiliyyah).
The Jahiliyyah is not merely a historical period that the Arabs lived through before Islam.
Nor is it simply the opposite of knowledge and culture.
Rather, it is a psychological state that rejects being guided by the guidance of Allah.
It is also an institutional or societal condition.
That refuses to rule by what Allah has revealed.
It is a chronic disease that can occur in any era.
It has well-known manifestations.
Whoever imitates the Arabs of the Jahiliyyah or others among the people of contemporary Jahiliyyah in these matters,
Is afflicted by this ailment.
Among these manifestations, too, are:
Calling one another by offensive nicknames, tribalism, and detestable racism.
All of these are part of the Jahiliyyah.
When Satan stirred up discord between one of the Muhajirun and one of the Ansar,
The Ansari cried out, "O Ansar!"
And the Muhajiri cried out, "O Muhajirun!"
The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) became angry.
He said, "What is this call of the Jahiliyyah?"
And he said, "Leave it, for it is foul."
Agreed upon.
This occurred even though both groups were the best of people after the prophets.
So what, then, of those beneath them?
This also includes fanaticism for a nationality or a tribe,
Or nationalism or a sports team,
And so on.
To the point where you see one of them supporting his fellow countryman, even if he is a disbeliever,
Over his Muslim brother who is not from his country.
