--> 00:02:04.689 While he was bent over the pages of the Qur'an. 00:02:04.689 --> 00:02:09.689 Then the great conflict erupted between the Commander of the Believers, 'Ali ibn Abi Talib, 00:02:09.689 governor on behalf of the Commander of the Believers, 'Ali ibn Abi Talib. 00:02:34.689 --> 00:02:39.689 Then he saw the bloody claws of discord reach out to his father, 00:02:39.689 --> 00:02:41.689 took me and my little sister and brought us to Medina. 00:03:12.639 --> 00:03:14.639 No sooner had we reached it, 00:03:14.639 --> 00:03:19.639 Than my aunt 'A'ishah, may Allah be pleased with her, sent for us. 00:03:19.639 --> 00:03:23.639 She took us from my uncle's house to her own, 00:03:23.639 --> 00:03:26.639 And raised us in her care. 00:03:26.639 --> 00:03:31.639 I have never seen a mother or father more kind than she, 00:03:31.639 --> 00:03:33.639 Nor more compassionate. 00:03:33.639 --> 00:03:37.639 She would feed us with her own hands, while she herself would not eat with us; 00:03:37.639 --> 00:03:41.639 If any of our food remained, she would eat it. 00:03:41.639 --> 00:03:45.639 She would show us the tenderness of a nursing mother toward a weaned child, 00:03:45.639 --> 00:03:49.639 Washing our bodies and combing our hair, 00:03:49.639 --> 00:03:52.639 And dressing us in the purest white garments. 00:03:52.639 --> 00:03:57.639 She never ceased to urge us toward goodness and habituate us to its practice, 00:03:57.639 --> 00:04:01.639 While forbidding us from evil and compelling us to abandon it. 00:04:01.639 --> 00:04:06.639 She was diligent in teaching us what we could grasp of the Book of Allah, 00:04:06.639 --> 00:04:12.639 And narrating to us what we could understand of the hadith of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. 00:04:12.639 --> 00:04:16.639 She would increase our joy and delight during the two Eids; 00:04:16.639 --> 00:04:19.639 When the eve of 'Arafah arrived, 00:04:19.639 --> 00:04:21.639 She would trim my hair, 00:04:21.639 --> 00:04:24.639 And wash me and my sister. 00:04:24.639 --> 00:04:26.639 When morning came, 00:04:26.639 --> 00:04:28.639 She would dress us in new clothes, 00:04:28.639 --> 00:04:32.639 And send us to the mosque to perform the Eid prayer. 00:04:32.639 --> 00:04:34.639 When we returned from it, 00:04:34.639 --> 00:04:38.639 She would gather me and my sister and provide for us. 00:04:40.300 --> 00:04:42.300 One day, 00:04:42.300 --> 00:04:44.300 She dressed us in white clothes, 00:04:44.300 --> 00:04:47.300 Then she sat me on one of her knees, 00:04:47.300 --> have never seen a speaker, man or woman, before or since, 00:05:10.300 --> 00:05:14.300 More eloquent in tongue or sweeter in expression than she. 00:05:14.300 --> 00:05:16.300 Then she said: 00:05:16.300 --> 00:05:17.300 "O my brother, 00:05:17.300 --> 00:05:23.300 I have continued to see you turning away from me since you took these two children from you, 00:05:23.300 --> 00:05:25.300 And I brought them to myself. 00:05:25.300 --> 00:05:30.300 By Allah, I did not do that out of arrogance toward you, nor out of suspicion of you, 00:05:30.300 --> 00:05:34.300 Nor out of accusing you of falling short in their care. 00:05:34.300 --> 00:05:37.370 But you are a man with wives, 00:05:37.370 --> 00:05:42.370 And they are two small children who cannot manage their own affairs. 00:05:42.370 --> 00:05:46.370 I feared that your wives might see something from them that they would dislike, 00:05:46.370 --> 00:05:49.370 And thus not be pleased with them. 00:05:49.370 --> 00:05:55.399 I found that I was more entitled than they to take charge of their affairs in this situation. 00:05:55.399 --> 00:05:57.399 Now they have grown, 00:05:57.399 --> 00:06:01.399 And have become capable of managing their own affairs. 00:06:01.399 --> 00:06:04.399 So take them and bring them to yourself." 00:06:04.399 --> 00:06:09.459 My uncle 'Abd al-Rahman took us and brought us to his house. 00:06:09.459 --> 00:06:13.970 However, the young boy of the house of Bakr 00:06:13.970 --> 00:06:19.970 Remained with his heart attached to the house of his aunt, the Mother of the Believers, may Allah be pleased with her. 00:06:19.970 --> 00:06:24.970 For it was on the ground of her house, perfumed with the scents of Prophethood, that he grew up, 00:06:24.970 --> 00:06:28.970 And in the care of its mistress that he was raised and nurtured, 00:06:28.970 --> 00:06:32.970 And from her overflowing compassion that he drank and was satisfied. 00:06:32.970 --> 00:06:38.160 So he began to divide his time between her house and his uncle's house. 00:06:38.160 --> 00:06:43.160 The memories of his aunt's fragrant, gentle, and sheltering home remained 00:06:43.160 --> 00:06:47.160 of his two companions, for I wish to see them.' 00:07:07.189 --> 00:07:11.189 The three graves were still inside her house, 00:07:11.189 --> 00:07:15.189 And she had covered them with something that concealed them from sight. 00:07:15.189 --> 00:07:20.189 So she uncovered for me three graves, neither raised high nor flattened, 00:07:20.189 --> 00:07:26.189 Which had been leveled with the small red pebbles that were in the courtyard of the mosque. 00:07:26.189 --> 00:07:31.189 I said: 'Where is the grave of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him?' 00:07:31.189 --> --> 00:08:43.080 And devoted himself to the circles of knowledge that were scattered in every corner of it, 00:08:43.080 --> 00:08:47.080 Just as the bright stars are scattered across the face of the sky. 00:08:47.080 --> 00:08:53.080 He narrated from Abu Hurayrah, 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar, 'Abdullah ibn 'Abbas, 00:08:53.080 --> 00:08:57.080 'Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr, 'Abdullah ibn Ja'far, 00:08:57.080 --> 00:09:01.080 'Abdullah ibn Khabbab, Rafi' ibn Khadij, 00:09:01.080 --> 00:09:04.080 Aslam the freedman of 'Umar ibn al-Khattab, 00:09:04.080 --> 00:09:10.080 And others, may Allah be pleased with them, until he became an independent scholar (mujtahid) and leader. 00:09:10.080 --> 00:09:14.080 He became one of the most knowledgeable people of his time regarding the Sunnah. 00:09:14.080 --> 00:09:19.080 For a man was not considered a man among them until he had mastered the Sunnah. 00:09:19.080 --> 00:09:24.549 When the young man of the house of Bakr had completed his tools of knowledge, 00:09:24.549 --> 00:09:29.549 People flocked to him, seeking knowledge from him with passion, 00:09:29.549 --> 00:09:33.580 And he turned to them, bestowing it upon them with generosity. 00:09:33.580 --> 00:09:40.580 He would come to the mosque of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, every morning, 00:09:40.580 --> 00:09:42.580 At a time he never missed. 00:09:42.580 --> 00:09:46.580 He would pray two rak'ahs to enliven the mosque, 00:09:46.580 --> 00:09:51.580 Then he would take his place in front of the door of 'Umar in the noble Rawdah, 00:09:51.580 --> 00:09:56.580 Between the grave of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and his pulpit. 00:09:56.580 --> 00:10:00.580 Students of knowledge would gather around him from every place, 00:10:00.580 --> 00:10:04.580 And drink from his pure, refined sources, 00:10:04.580 --> 00:10:07.740 Which filled their thirsty souls. 00:10:07.740 --> 00:10:09.740 Not much time passed, 00:10:09.740 --> 00:10:12.740 Before al-Qasim ibn Muhammad, 00:10:12.740 --> 00:10:16.740 And his cousin Salim ibn 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar, 00:10:16.740 --> 00:10:19.740 Became the two trusted leaders of Medina, 00:10:19.740 --> 00:10:21.740 Its two obeyed masters, 00:10:21.740 --> 00:10:23.740 And its two influential figures, 00:10:23.740 --> 00:10:29.740 Even though they held no office or authority. 00:10:29.740 --> 00:10:31.740 The people made them their leaders, 00:10:31.740 --> 00:10:35.740 Because of the piety and godliness they possessed, 00:10:35.740 --> 00:10:39.740 The knowledge and fiqh they carried in their hearts, 00:10:39.740 --> 00:10:44.740 And the asceticism they displayed regarding what was in the hands of others, 00:10:44.740 --> 00:10:47.809 And their desire for what is with Allah, the Almighty and Majestic. 00:10:47.809 --> 00:10:50.809 Their status in the hearts of the people reached such a point 00:10:50.809 --> 00:10:53.809 That the Umayyad caliphs and their governors 00:10:53.809 --> 00:10:56.809 Would not decide any matter 00:10:56.809 --> 00:10:58.809 Regarding the affairs of Medina 00:10:58.809 --> 00:11:00.809 Except with their counsel. 00:11:00.809 --> 00:11:03.809 Among these instances was when al-Walid ibn 'Abd al-Malik 00:11:03.809 --> 00:11:07.809 Resolved to expand the noble Prophetic Sanctuary. 00:11:07.809 --> 00:11:12.809 He could not achieve this cherished wish 00:11:12.809 --> 00:11:16.809 Unless he demolished the old mosque from its four sides, 00:11:16.809 --> 00:11:21.809 Removed the houses of the wives of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:11:21.809 --> 00:11:23.809 And incorporated them into the mosque. 00:11:23.809 --> 00:11:26.809 These were matters that were difficult for the people, 00:11:26.809 --> 00:11:29.809 And they were not pleased with them. 00:11:29.809 --> 00:11:34.809 So he wrote to 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz, his governor in Medina, saying: 00:11:34.809 --> 00:11:40.899 "I have decided to expand the mosque of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, 00:11:40.899 --> 00:11:44.899 Until it becomes two hundred cubits by two hundred cubits. man repeated the question. 00:14:46.269 --> 00:14:51.269 He said, "Subhan Allah," and the man repeated it a third time. 00:14:51.269 --> 00:14:56.269 He then said to him, "That is Salim, O son of my one of them was not satisfied with the portion he was given, 00:16:13.629 --> 00:16:17.730 so he came to him in the mosque while he was standing in prayer, 00:16:17.730 --> 00:16:20.730 and began to speak about the charity. 00:16:20.730 --> 00:16:22.730 His son said to the man, 00:16:22.730 --> 00:16:25.730 "By Allah, you are speaking about a man 00:16:25.730 --> 00:16:29.730 who has not taken a single dirham or daniq from your charity, 00:16:29.730 --> 00:16:32.730 nor has he even taken a single date from it." 00:16:32.730 --> 00:16:34.759 Al-Qasim shortened his prayer, 00:16:34.759 --> 00:16:37.759 turned to his son, and said, 00:16:37.759 --> 00:16:42.759 "My son, do not speak henceforth about what you do not know." 00:16:42.759 --> 00:16:45.759 People said, "His son spoke the
