Allah the Exalted says:
And do not obey every habitual swearer, who is contemptible,
A slanderer, going about with malicious gossip.
Namimah (malicious gossip) is the act of conveying people’s words to one another with the intent of causing discord.
It is one of the major sins.
On the authority of Hudhayfah, may Allah be pleased with him,
From the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, who said:
"The slanderer shall not enter Paradise."
And on the authority of Asma' bint Yazid,
That the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, said:
"The worst of Allah’s servants
Are those who go about with malicious gossip,
Who sow discord between those who love one another."
