Stop and learn about the Companions, scholars, and prominent figures. A new challenge: Who am I? I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. I am from the emigrants of Mecca. And I was among the first to embrace Islam. I emigrated to Abyssinia twice. Then to Medina. I participated in Badr and all the Prophet's, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, expeditions. Before Islam, I was among the affluent in Mecca. My father was Utbah ibn Rabi'ah. A leader among the leaders of Mecca. And a noble among its nobles. When I embraced Islam, my father disowned me. And he withheld everything from me. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to his Companions on the day of Badr: "Indeed, I know some men from Banu Hashim and others who were forced to come out [to battle]. They have no need to fight us. So, whoever among you encounters anyone from Banu Hashim, let him not kill him. And whoever encounters Abu al-Bukhtari ibn Hisham, let him not kill him. And whoever encounters Al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib, the uncle of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, let him not kill him. For he was only brought out under duress." So I said: "Should we kill our fathers and our sons, and our brothers and our kin, and leave Al-Abbas? By Allah, if I meet him, I will surely kill him with my sword!" My words reached the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. He said to Umar ibn Al-Khattab: "Would you strike the face of the Messenger of Allah's uncle with a sword?" Umar said: "O Messenger of Allah, let me strike his neck with my sword. For, by Allah, he has become a hypocrite." The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade him. I feared for myself because of that statement. And I said: "I will continue to fear it unless martyrdom atones for it." So I was martyred on the day of Yamamah. And at the beginning of the battle on the day of Badr, I challenged my father to a duel. But the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, forbade me. Then my father was killed that day while he was still an unbeliever. When the slain were cast into the well of Badr, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, stood over them, calling them by their names and saying: "O Utbah! O Shaybah! O Umayyah ibn Khalaf! O Abu Jahl! Have you found what your Lord promised you to be true?" "As for me, I have found what my Lord promised me to be true." Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, turned, and saw me looking distressed, my face changed. He said to me, "Perhaps something about your father has affected you?" I said, "No. By Allah, I have no doubt about my father or his fate. But I knew my father to be a man of opinion, wisdom, and merit. So I hoped that would bring him closer to Islam. When I saw his fate today, and that he died in disbelief after what I had hoped for him, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, prayed for me for good. I learned much in the Seerah about my freedman Salim. I had adopted him before Islam. When Islam abolished adoption, he became my freedman. And he and I were like two brothers. We fought together against the apostates. During the caliphate of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him. And we were martyred together in the Battle of Yamamah. So, who am I? The answer is Abu Hudhayfah ibn Utbah ibn Rabi'ah, may Allah be pleased with him. Stop. Stop and learn about the Companions, scholars, and prominent figures. A new challenge. Who am I? I am one of the Mothers of the Believers. And the second wife of the trustworthy Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. I was a noble and dignified lady. I was first married to Sakran ibn Amr, may Allah be pleased with him. And I emigrated with him to Abyssinia, fleeing for the sake of our religion. I had five children with him. When the emigrants in Abyssinia felt the need to return to Mecca, I returned with my husband with them. While I was in Mecca, I had a dream, that a moon fell upon me from the sky while I was lying down. I told my husband. He said: "By Allah, if your dream is true, I will not live long before I die, and you will marry after me." My husband fell ill from that day. His illness worsened, until death overtook him. Then the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, proposed to me. After my waiting period ended. He married me after the death of Khadijah, may Allah be pleased with her. And I was alone with him for about three years or more, until he married Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her. I had a noticeable sense of humor. So I would make the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, laugh. And among that, I prayed behind the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, one night during his Tahajjud prayer. The prayer became difficult for me. When morning came, I said to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him: "I prayed behind you last night. You performed Ruku' with me, until I held my nose, fearing that blood would flow." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, laughed. And with this kind of sentiment, the Prophet's, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, wives treated me, and looked for opportunities to joke with me. Even Hafsa and Aisha, may Allah be pleased with them, wanted to make me believe that the Antichrist had appeared. I was terrified by that. And I hurried to hide in a corner of the house where we used to light a fire. Hafsa and Aisha laughed at me. When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, came and saw them laughing, he said to them: "What is the matter with you?" They told him what had happened to me. He came to me. As soon as I saw him, I exclaimed: "O Messenger of Allah! The Antichrist has come out!" He said: "No. But it is near. I was reassured and came out of my place. And I began to brush off some threads from my cloak. When I grew older and became frail, I feared that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, might divorce me. So I gave my day and night to Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, to please the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and out of love for what he loved, and a desire to be raised in his company among his wives, peace be upon them. And concerning this, Allah the Almighty revealed: “If a woman feareth ill treatment from her husband, or desertion, it is no sin for them twain if they make terms of peace between themselves. Peace is better. But greed hath been made present in the minds (of men). If ye do good and keep from evil, lo! Allah is ever Informed of what ye do.” (4:128) “If a woman feareth ill treatment from her husband, or desertion, it is no sin for them twain if they make terms of peace between themselves. Peace is better. But greed hath been made present in the minds (of men). If ye do good and keep from evil, lo! Allah is ever Informed of what ye do.” (4:128) I was more generous than in giving charity. Even Umar ibn Al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, sent me a container full of dirhams. I said, "What is this?" They said, "Dirhams." I said, "Like a sack of dates." So I distributed them among the poor. I remained in my house after the death of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and I did not go out for Hajj or anything else, acting upon his, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, instruction. So, who am I? The answer is the Mother of the Believers, Sawdah bint Zam'ah, may Allah be pleased with her. Stop. Stop and learn about the Companions, scholars, and prominent figures. A new challenge. I am one of the Ansar Companions. From Banu Abd al-Ashhal. Whom the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, praised by saying: "The best tribes of the Ansar are Banu Al-Najjar, then Banu Abd al-Ashhal." I entered Paradise without ever prostrating to Allah. I used to deal with people with the usury of ignorance. And I had a lot of usurious wealth. My people used to offer me Islam, but I refused to embrace it, fearing that my wealth would be lost. When the Battle of Uhud occurred, Allah cast Islam into my heart. I came asking about my cousins and some men from my people. I was told: "They went out to fight the polytheists at Uhud." So I donned my armor and mounted my horse. Then I went out to fight. Some Muslims saw me. And they said, "Stay away from us." I said, "Indeed, I have believed in Allah." Then I fought until I was wounded, and I was on the verge of death. My people, Banu Abd al-Ashhal, carried me. They asked me about the reason for my coming: Was it tribal loyalty? Or anger for the sake of Allah and His Messenger? I said, "Rather, it is anger for the sake of Allah and His Messenger." Then my soul departed. And I did not pray a single prayer to Allah. So mention my matter to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. He said: "He is among the people of Paradise." So, who am I? The answer: Al-Asram. Umar ibn Thabit, may Allah be pleased with him. Pause and learn about the Companions, scholars, and prominent figures. A new challenge: Who am I? I am one of the Companions from the tribe of Juhaynah. I was an ally of the Ansar. I embraced Islam early on. And I witnessed the second pledge of Aqabah. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to send me on special missions. And I would carry them out. So I am the valiant warrior. And the man for difficult tasks. I participated in the raid of Abdullah ibn Atik, may Allah be pleased with him. To assassinate Ibn Abi Al-Huqayq in Khaybar. And I single-handedly killed the most dangerous man to the Muslims in the Arabian Peninsula. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, called me one day and said: "It has reached me that Khalid ibn Sufyan Al-Hadhali is gathering people to attack me. He is in his palm grove near Medina. Go and kill him." I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I do not fear anyone." He said: "Yes, you will feel a shiver when you meet him. And remember Satan." So I went out towards Khalid Al-Hadhali, my sword girded. I said, "O Messenger of Allah, I do not fear anyone." He said: "Yes, you will find Al-Hadhali my sword girded. Until I reached him at the time of Asr prayer. Provide Moving When I saw him, I felt what the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, had described of the shiver. So I said: "The Messenger of Allah has spoken the truth." So I approached him. And I feared that there might be fighting between me and him, which would distract me from prayer. And I nodded my head in assent. When I reached him, he said: "Who is this man?" I said: "A man from the Arabs. He heard about you and your gathering against this man in Yathrib. So he came to be with you." He said: "Yes. We are engaged in that." So I walked with him. Until I was in a position to do so, I attacked him with my sword and killed him. And I left his women weeping over him. And I hurried back to Medina. When his companions saw his killing, they dispersed after him. When I arrived at the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, he said, "Your face has prospered." I said, "I have killed him, O Messenger of Allah." He said, "You have spoken the truth." Then he took me by the hand and entered his house. He gave me a staff. And said, "Keep this with you." So I went out with it among the people. They said, "What is this staff?" I said, "The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, gave it to me. And he ordered me to keep it with me." They said, "Why don't you go back and ask him?" So I said, "Why did you give me this staff, O Messenger of Allah?" He said, "It is a sign between me and you. I will recognize you by it on the Day of Resurrection. For few people will be the ones who lean on their deeds on that day. Meaning that few people will have righteous deeds to lean on on the Day of Resurrection, just as a person leans on a staff. So this staff became the most precious thing to me. And I paired it with my sword, and it remained with me. When death approached me, I ordered it to be placed in my shroud and buried with me. So, who am I? The answer: Abdullah ibn Anis Al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him. Pause and learn about the Companions, scholars, and prominent figures. A new challenge: Who am I? I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. From the non-Arabs, from the land of Asbahan. I lived through Zoroastrianism, Christianity, and Judaism before Islam. When I embraced Islam, I became a son of Islam. And I was among the first Persians to enter it. And I was known as the seeker of truth. I lived in a prosperous environment. Adhering to Zoroastrianism and worshipping fire. And my father was the chief of the village. And he loved me very much. So I was the servant of their deities, which was fire. I would tend to it. So that I would not let it extinguish for a moment. And my father did not withhold anything from me. One day, my father sent me to one of our gardens for some of his needs. I passed by a monk worshipping in his cell. His worship impressed me. So I sat with him, listening to what he said. Until I was late to my father. And I did not fulfill his need in the garden. So he feared greatly for me. When I came to him, I told him the reason for my delay. And I said to him: "The religion of the monk is better than our religion." So he became angry with me. And he imprisoned me in the house and chained me. I managed to break my chains. And I left with a caravan of Christians to their lands. I met the great priest among them. So I stayed with him. When he died, he entrusted me to another priest in another land. So I traveled to him. And so it was. Whenever a monk died, I moved to another monk. Until the last of them said to me: "My son, there is no righteous man left among the Christians to whom I can entrust you. But the time of a prophet has come upon you. He will emerge in the land of the Arabs. His description is such and such. If you can reach him, do so." So I waited. Until a group of Arabs from Banu Kalb passed by us. I offered them to accompany me to their lands. In exchange for giving them all that I owned. So they agreed, and I traveled with them. And on the way, they betrayed me. They took all my wealth. And they sold me to a Jew in Wadi Al-Qura. Then another Jew from Banu Qurayzah in Yathrib bought me. And he took me to his people in Medina. When the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, migrated to Medina, I heard about him. So I hastened to him. And I began to verify the signs that my companion had told me. When I became certain that he was the Prophet I was looking for, I fell upon him, kissing him and weeping. And I embraced Islam at his hands. And I told him my story in all its details. He was pleased with it, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. I did not witness Badr or Uhud with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, due to slavery. So the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, ordered me to write to my master. So I wrote to him. And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and his Companions helped me to fulfill the contract. Then I witnessed the Battle of the Trench with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. As my first engagement in Islam. And I was the one who suggested digging the trench around Medina. To protect it from the enemies. When the Confederates came and saw the trench, they said, "This is a stratagem unknown to the Arabs." And Allah returned their plot against them. One day, I was beside the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. He struck my thigh with his hand and said: "By Him in Whose hand is my soul, if faith were at the Pleiades, men from these would attain it." So, who am I? The answer: Salman Al-Farisi, may Allah be pleased with him. Pause and learn about the Companions, scholars, and prominent figures. A new challenge: Who am I? I am a Companion from the young men of the Ansar. I embraced Islam before the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, arrived in Medina. Then I pledged allegiance to him upon his arrival. And I was always in the desert, tending my sheep. So he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, gave me a choice. Whether to pledge allegiance as the Bedouins do, or as the Emigrants do. So I said, "Rather, the allegiance of the Emigrants." Then I went out to my sheep to tend them. There were myself and twelve other men who had embraced Islam. We lived far from Medina. To tend our sheep in its deserts. So we decided that one of us would go to Medina each day. And he would leave his sheep for us to tend. And when he returned, we would learn knowledge from him. So I said to them, "Go to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. And I will stay here and tend your sheep along with my own. And I was very keen on them. So my companions would go to and fro to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, while I tended the sheep. Until I came to myself and said: "Woe to you! For the sake of some sheep that are neither fat nor useful, You would miss out on accompanying the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. And taking the Qur'an directly from him. Then I left my few possessions and went to Medina. To reside in the mosque next to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. I stayed close to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. And he would often have me ride behind him on his mount. Until I became known as the one who rode behind the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. And on one occasion, I was holding the reins of the Messenger of Allah's, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, mule. While he was riding it. And we were walking around Medina. He said to me, "Will you not ride?" I felt too awed by the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, to ride in his place. He repeated this to me three times. I almost said no. But I feared that would be disobedience. So I said, "Yes." He dismounted. I rode for a bit and then dismounted. And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, mounted. Then he said to me, "Shall I not teach you two chapters that have no equal?" I said, "Yes, Messenger of Allah." So he recited them to me. "Say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of the dawn.'" "Say, 'I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind.'" Then the prayer was established. And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, led. And he prayed with them. Then he said to me, "Recite them whenever you sleep and whenever you wake." And because of my constant companionship with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, I learned the Qur'an from him. Until I became one of the reciters. And I had a beautiful voice for it. And the Commander of the Faithful, Umar ibn al-Khattab, may Allah be pleased with him, often asked me to recite some of the Qur'an to him. And when I recited, he would weep, may Allah be pleased with him. And when my death approached, I gathered my sons and gave them my will. And I said, "My sons, I forbid you three things: Do not accept a hadith from the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, except from a trustworthy source. Do not incur debt, even if you wear cloaks. And do not write poetry, lest you become preoccupied with it and neglect the Qur'an." So who am I? The answer is Uqbah ibn Amir al-Juhani, may Allah be pleased with him. Pause. And learn about the Companions, scholars, and prominent figures. A new challenge: Who am I? I am from the mothers of the believers. And the cousin of the trustworthy Messenger, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. My name was Barrah. And my kunyah was Umm Hakim. So the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, changed my name. And I am one of the first emigrants. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, proposed marriage to me. To his freedman Zayd ibn Harithah, may Allah be pleased with him. And I refused. So Allah the Almighty revealed a verse: “And it becometh not a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His messenger have decided an affair (for them), that they should (after that) claim any say in their affair; and whoso is rebellious to Allah and His messenger, he verily goeth astray in error manifest.” (33:36) “And it becometh not a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His messenger have decided an affair (for them), that they should (after that) claim any say in their affair; and whoso is rebellious to Allah and His messenger, he verily goeth astray in error manifest.” (33:36) “And it becometh not a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His messenger have decided an affair (for them), that they should (after that) claim any say in their affair; and whoso is rebellious to Allah and His messenger, he verily goeth astray in error manifest.” (33:36) "And whoever disobeys Allah and His Messenger," “And it becometh not a believing man or a believing woman, when Allah and His messenger have decided an affair (for them), that they should (after that) claim any say in their affair; and whoso is rebellious to Allah and His messenger, he verily goeth astray in error manifest.” (33:36) So I had no choice but to obey Allah and His Messenger. So I married Zayd. Then Zayd divorced me. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, married me. By the command of Allah the Almighty. And that was for a divine wisdom. Which necessitated the dismantling of what was known in the pre-Islamic era regarding adoption. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, entered upon me. Without a guardian or witnesses. So I would boast about that to the mothers of the believers. And I would say to them: "Your families married you off, but Allah married me from above the seven heavens." And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, described me. As "Awwah," meaning, devout and imploring. And I loved charity. And compassion for the poor. So I would work with my hands. And give charity from my earnings. Until I became known as "Umm al-Masakin" (Mother of the Poor). And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to his wives one day: "The ones who will join me first in length of hand are the ones whose hands are longest." So after his passing, we would extend our hands on the wall. To see whose hand was longest. And my hand was short. But I was the first of his wives to join the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. So people understood that what was meant was the one whose hand was longest in charity, generosity, and good deeds. And my love for charity was so great. That when my death approached, I said: "I have prepared my shroud. If Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, sells it for me for a shroud, then give one of them in charity. And if you can, when you place me in my grave, give in charity the ties of my shroud. Then do so." So who am I? The answer is Umm al-Mu'minin, Zaynab bint Jahsh, may Allah be pleased with her. Pause. And learn about the Companions, scholars, and prominent figures. A new challenge: Who am I? I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. And the leader of the Thaqif tribe. And one of the prominent figures of Arabia. I attained leadership and honor from a young age. And I am the one intended when the polytheists said: “And they say: If only this Qur'an had been revealed to some great man of the two towns?” (43:31) They meant me from Ta'if. And Al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah from Mecca. Quraish sent me to negotiate with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, at Hudaybiyyah. So I came to him and spoke with him. And I saw the state of his Companions around him. So I returned to the people of Mecca and told them: "I have seen wonders from the Companions of Muhammad. By Allah, if he spat mucus, it would fall into the palm of one of them, who would rub it on his face and skin. And if he commanded them, they would rush to obey his command. And if he performed ablution, they would almost fight over its remnants. And if he spoke, they would lower their voices in his presence. And they would not stare at him out of reverence for him. O my people, by Allah, I have approached kings. I approached Caesar, Chosroes, and the Negus. By Allah, I have never seen a king whose companions revered him as the companions of Muhammad revered Muhammad. And he has offered you a path of righteousness. So accept it." I was with my people in Ta'if when the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, besieged it. After the Battle of Hunayn. And when the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, departed, I followed his trail. And I caught up with him before he reached Medina. So I embraced Islam. And I asked him to let me return to my people. So that I could invite them to Islam. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to me: "They will kill you." So I said: "Messenger of Allah, I am beloved and obeyed among them. And I am dearer to them than their own eyes. And if they found me sleeping, they would not wake me. So grant me permission." So I went out to them, inviting them to Islam. When I reached Ta'if, I stood on a high place. And I invited them to Islam. And I revealed my religion to them. So they pelted me with arrows from all directions. An arrow struck me fatally. My family carried me home. And they said to me: "What do you think of your blood?" So I said: "A honor Allah has bestowed upon me. And a martyrdom that Allah has brought to me. So there is nothing in me but what is in the martyrs who were killed in the cause of Allah. With the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. Before he departed from you. So bury me with them." And they used to believe that someone like me in my people was like the companion of Yasin among his people, who called them to Allah and they killed him. And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, informed me. That he saw Jesus, son of Mary, peace be upon him. And that I am the closest person in resemblance to him. So who am I? The answer: Urwah ibn Mas'ud al-Thaqafi, may Allah be pleased with him. Pause. And learn about the Companions, scholars, and prominent figures. A new challenge. Who am I? I am one of the emigrant Companions. I embraced Islam early in Mecca. And I migrated to Abyssinia. Then I returned to Mecca with the returnees. Then I intended to migrate to Medina. But I was unable. And I was virtuous and good. My elder brother is Amr ibn al-As, may Allah be pleased with him. One of the shrewd men of Arabia. The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, testified to our faith. When I intended to migrate to Medina, I, Amr ibn al-Khattab, and Ayash ibn Abi Rabi'ah, may Allah be pleased with them, agreed. To meet at a specific place outside Mecca. And we said: "Whoever does not show up by morning has been detained. So his companions should proceed." And on the second morning, 'Umar and 'Iyash were in the designated place. And he was held back from them. So he proceeded to Medina. As for me, my people knew about me. So they bound me and tortured me. And they tempted me away from my religion. So I was tempted away. And people used to say, "Allah will not accept from one who was tempted away, anything, neither a substitute nor a ransom, nor repentance." A people who knew Allah, then returned to disbelief due to a trial that befell them. When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, arrived in Medina, Allah revealed about them and us His saying: “Say: O My slaves who have been prodigal to their own hurt! Despair not of the mercy of Allah, Who forgiveth all sins. Lo! He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (39:53) “Say: O My slaves who have been prodigal to their own hurt! Despair not of the mercy of Allah, Who forgiveth all sins. Lo! He is the Forgiving, the Merciful.” (39:53) Indeed, He is the Forgiving, the Merciful. “Turn unto your Lord repentant, and surrender unto Him, before there come unto you the doom, when ye cannot be helped.” (39:54) Then you will not be helped. “And follow the better (guidance) of that which is revealed unto you from your Lord, before the doom cometh on you suddenly when ye know not,” (39:55) So 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, wrote these verses in a document. And he sent it to me. When it reached me, I kept reading it and not understanding it, until I said, "O Allah, grant me understanding of it." So Allah, the Almighty, cast into my heart that it was revealed concerning what we used to say to ourselves and what was said about us. So I returned to my camel. And I sat on it. And I pledged allegiance to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. And I witnessed with him every battle after the Trench. One day, my brother 'Umar and I came to the mosque. And the people were debating the Qur'an. So we withdrew from them. And the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was behind the chamber, hearing their words. So he came out, angered, until he stood over them and said: "By this, nations before you went astray. And the Qur'an was not revealed for you to strike some of it against others. It was only revealed to confirm some of it against others. Then he turned to me and my brother. And we felt fortunate that he had not seen us with them. Then he, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "The two sons of Al-'As are believers." And when the day of Ajnadayn came, my brother 'Umar and I went out to the battlefield. And we raced towards Allah, the Almighty. So 'Ali held back the veil until I purified myself and perfumed myself. Then I held back for him until he purified himself and perfumed himself. Then we spent our night asking Allah for martyrdom. And we presented ourselves to Allah, the Almighty. So He accepted me and left my brother. On the battlefield. I saw the Muslims retreating from their enemy. So I threw the helmet off my face. And I began to advance towards the enemy, shouting: "O Muslims, come to me! Come to me! Are you fleeing from Paradise?" And I began to plunge into the polytheists. And I killed some of them and returned. I did that repeatedly. Then a valiant man from Ghassan confronted me. And I killed him. Then men from Ghassan attacked me. And they struck me with their swords until they killed me. Then they trampled me with the hooves of their horses. Until they tore my flesh and scattered my bones. And after the end of the battle, my brother 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with him, returned. He gathered my flesh and bones and buried me. So, who am I? The answer: Hisham ibn Al-'As, may Allah be pleased with him. Stop. And recognize the Companions, scholars, and prominent figures. A new challenge. Who am I? I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. And one of the leaders of the Ansar. In the days of ignorance, I used to hate idols. And I belittled them. And I believed in monotheism. Therefore, I was one of the six who accepted the Prophet's invitation, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, to Islam. The first time he invited them was in Mecca during the Hajj season. Then we returned to Yathrib. And we invited our people. Then we came to him the following year. Twelve men. And we pledged allegiance to him in the First Pledge of 'Aqabah. And I was the first to pledge allegiance to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, on that day. I also witnessed the Second Pledge of 'Aqabah. So I am one of the twelve chieftains of the Ansar. And I witnessed all the battles with the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. I had a well in Medina. Called Jasham. And its water was good. And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, liked to drink from its water. And one day, the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, met Abu Bakr and 'Umar. So he asked them: "What brought you out?" They said: "Hunger, O Messenger of Allah." He said: "And hunger brought me out too." So they came to my house. And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to my wife: "Where is your husband?" She said: "He is nearby, O Messenger of Allah. He went to fetch us some fresh water. Enter." When I came and saw them, I was extremely delighted by them. And I climbed a palm tree from my garden. And I cut down some bunches of dates from it for them. So the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to me: "That is enough." I said: "O Messenger of Allah, you eat from its unripe and ripe dates, and enjoy them." Then I went to a sheep to slaughter it for them. And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, Abu Bakr, and 'Umar, may Allah be pleased with them, laid their heads down and slept. Then they woke up, and the food was cooked. So I placed it before them. They ate, were satisfied, and praised Allah. And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to his two companions: "This is from the blessings about which you will be asked." The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said to me: "Do you have a servant?" I said: "No." He said: "When we receive captives, come to us." So two youths were brought to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him. So I came to him. And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Choose one of them." I said: "O Prophet of Allah, choose for me." So the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Indeed, the one consulted is entrusted. Take this one, for I saw him praying. And treat him kindly." So I went with him to my wife. And I informed her of the Messenger of Allah's, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, words. So she said to me: "You will not be able to fulfill what the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, commanded of kindness, except by freeing him." So I freed him. And I was a man with many date palms. And the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, used to send me to Khaybar. To estimate their fruits. And extract the Muslims' share from them. When the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, passed away, Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, asked me to perform the same task. So I excused myself to him. He said: "You used to estimate for the Messenger of Allah." I said: "Indeed, when I used to estimate for the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and returned, he would supplicate and ask forgiveness for me. So who will ask forgiveness for me now?" So Abu Bakr, may Allah be pleased with him, excused me. So, who am I? The answer: Abu Al-Haytham Malik ibn Al-Tayhan, may Allah be pleased with him.
