A summary of the concepts held by the Ahl al-Sunnah.
The name of Allah, al-Qayyum (the Self-Sustaining, the All-Sustaining).
And the effects of believing in it.
Al-Qayyum.
Is He who sustains Himself by Himself.
Thus, He is in no need of anyone.
And by Him, everything is sustained.
For everything other than Him.
Is essentially in need of Him.
And His Qayyumiyyah (Self-Sustaining nature).
Glorified is He, is evidence of.
The perfection of His independence and the perfection of His power.
Because whoever sustains Himself by Himself.
Is independent of others.
Possessing perfect independence.
And is powerful by His own essence.
Possessing perfect power.
Among the meanings of al-Qayyum also.
Is the Everlasting who does not cease to exist.
And Ayat al-Kursi has combined.
The two names, al-Hayy (the Ever-Living).
And al-Qayyum.
For the name al-Hayy encompasses.
The attributes of the essence of Allah, glorified is He.
And the name al-Qayyum.
Encompasses the attributes of His actions.
And for this reason, it has been said.
That al-Hayy al-Qayyum.
Are the Greatest Name of Allah.
Because they encompass all.
The meanings of His names and attributes.
Glorified is He.
Among the effects of believing in the name al-Qayyum.
In this manner.
First.
The veneration of Allah, magnifying Him, and loving Him.
For He who sustains.
Himself by Himself and by whom is sustained.
Everything other than Him.
Is worthy of veneration, magnification.
And love.
Second.
A person’s disavowal of his own power and strength.
And his complete need for Allah.
By whom is sustained.
Everything.
And severing attachment to the weak created being.
Who is no different.
From the one who attaches himself to him in.
His need for Allah the Exalted.
And thus, it is mentioned in the hadith.
To seek aid through the two names.
Al-Hayy al-Qayyum.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said.
"O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining.
By Your mercy, I seek aid."
Narrated by al-Tirmidhi.
And classified as hasan by al-Albani.
Third.
The certainty of the pious servants of Allah.
In Allah’s protection of them.
And His kindness and care.
For if He sustains.
All created beings.
Both the obedient and the disobedient among them.
Then how much greater is His Qayyumiyyah.
For those who fear Him and take Him as their Protector.
And prefer Him over all others.
Fourth.
The answering of the supplication of one who calls upon Him.
By the two names al-Hayy al-Qayyum.
As mentioned in the hadith.
That a man supplicated.
And said.
"O Allah, I ask You.
By the fact that all praise is Yours.
“And (mention) Dhu'n-Nun, when he went off in anger and deemed that We had no power over him, but he cried out in the darkness, saying: There is no Allah save Thee. Be Thou Glorified! Lo! I have been a wrong-doer.” (21:87)
(The sleeper).
The Originator of the heavens and the earth.
O Possessor of Majesty and Honor.
O Ever-Living, O Self-Sustaining."
The Prophet said.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said.
"He has supplicated.
By the Greatest Name of Allah.
Which, if He is called upon by it.
He answers, and if He is asked.
By it, He gives."
Narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi.
And classified as sahih by al-Albani.
Fifth.
Fear of Allah the Exalted.
And awe of Him, glorified is He.
Because He is ever-watchful.
Over every soul.
Nothing is hidden from Him of.
Allah.
The Exalted says.
"Is He then who is watchful.
Over every soul.
For what it has earned?"
