Stop. Get to know the Companions, the scholars, and the prominent figures. A new challenge: Who am I? I am one of the noble Companions and a leader among the Ansar. I was skilled in reading and writing. I witnessed the Second Pledge of al-'Aqabah. I was one of the twelve leaders (nuqaba') appointed during that event. I also witnessed the battles of Badr and Uhud with the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him. The Prophet, peace be upon him, established a bond of brotherhood between me and 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Awf, may Allah be pleased with him. Upon his arrival in Medina. I said to my brother 'Abd al-Rahman: "The Ansar know that I am among the wealthiest of them. I will divide my wealth into two halves between you and me. I also have two wives. Look at them, and whichever one you find more appealing, I will divorce her, and once her waiting period is over, you may marry her." 'Abd al-Rahman, may Allah be pleased with him, said to me: "May Allah bless your family and your wealth for you. Just show me the way to the marketplace." During the Battle of Uhud, the battle concluded, and I had been struck down among the wounded Muslims. The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, asked about me and said: "Who will see for me what has become of so-and-so?" A man from the Ansar said: "I will, O Messenger of Allah." He went out searching among the fallen, until he found me wounded, pinned down, and in my final breaths. He said to me: "The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, sends you his greetings, and asks how you are faring." I said to him: "Convey my greetings to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, and tell him: 'I can already smell the scent of Paradise.' May Allah reward you on my behalf with the best reward He has ever granted a prophet for his Ummah. And convey my greetings to my people and tell them: 'You have no excuse before Allah if any harm reaches the Messenger of Allah while there is still a blink left in your eyes.'" Then my soul departed. The man returned to the Prophet, peace be upon him, and informed him. The Prophet, peace be upon him, said: "May Allah have mercy on him; he was sincere to Allah and His Messenger, both in life and in death." So, who am I?
