00:00:00.000 --> 00:00:03.200
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

00:00:05.169 --> 00:00:08.070
A summary of the Tafsir of al-Tabari.

00:00:08.580 --> 00:00:12.740
Abridged by Dr. Aqil Ibn Salim al-Shammari.

00:00:12.960 --> 00:00:16.199
Surah al-Qiyamah.

00:00:18.690 --> 00:00:22.370
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

00:00:22.370 --> 00:00:25.730
“Nay, I swear by the Day of Resurrection;” (75:1)

00:00:25.730 --> 00:00:30.489
“Nay, I swear by the accusing soul (that this Scripture is true).” (75:2)

00:00:30.489 --> 00:00:37.350
Does man think that We will not assemble his bones?

00:00:37.350 --> 00:00:43.429
Yes, We are able to reconstruct his very fingertips.

00:00:43.429 --> 00:00:49.350
Rather, man wishes to continue in his wickedness.

00:00:49.350 --> 00:00:52.920
Allah swears by the Day of Resurrection,

00:00:52.920 --> 00:00:55.020
And by the self-reproaching soul,

00:00:55.020 --> 00:00:58.479
Which blames its owner for both good and evil,

00:00:58.479 --> 00:01:00.780
And feels regret for what has passed.

00:01:01.200 --> 00:01:06.879
Does the son of Adam think that We are unable to gather his bones after they have scattered?

00:01:06.879 --> 00:01:10.599
Yes, We are capable of even more than that;

00:01:10.599 --> 00:01:12.840
We are able to reconstruct his fingertips,

00:01:12.840 --> 00:01:15.640
Meaning the fingers of his hands and feet.

00:01:15.640 --> 00:01:20.760
Had We made them a single mass, like the hoof of a camel or a donkey,

00:01:20.760 --> 00:01:26.159
He would not be able to take his food except with his mouth, like other beasts.

00:01:26.159 --> 00:01:30.379
But He separated the fingers of his hands so he may take with them,

00:01:30.480 --> 00:01:33.920
And grasp, hold, and release as he wishes.

00:01:33.920 --> 00:01:35.920
Thus, He perfected his creation.

00:01:35.920 --> 00:01:41.280
It is not that the son of Adam is ignorant that his Lord is able to gather his bones,

00:01:41.280 --> 00:01:46.319
But he wishes to continue forward in his disobedience to Allah,

00:01:46.319 --> 00:01:48.319
With nothing to deter him from it,

00:01:48.319 --> 00:01:52.680
Never repenting, but constantly delaying his repentance.

00:01:52.680 --> 00:01:57.700
“He asketh: When will be this Day of Resurrection?” (75:6)

00:01:57.700 --> 00:02:00.500
So when the sight is dazzled,

00:02:00.640 --> 00:02:02.640
And the moon is eclipsed,

00:02:02.640 --> 00:02:06.000
And the sun and the moon are joined,

00:02:06.000 --> 00:02:12.240
“On that day man will cry: Whither to flee!” (75:10)

00:02:12.240 --> 00:02:14.800
No! There is no refuge.

00:02:14.800 --> 00:02:19.240
“Unto thy Lord is the recourse that day.” (75:12)

00:02:19.240 --> 00:02:27.080
“On that day man is told the tale of that which he hath sent before and left behind.” (75:13)

00:02:28.430 --> 00:02:33.310
The son of Adam, who persists in his disobedience to Allah, asks,

00:02:33.310 --> 00:02:35.310
"When is the Day of Resurrection?"

00:02:35.310 --> 00:02:38.340
Seeking to delay his repentance.

00:02:38.340 --> 00:02:40.340
But when he is terrified by death,

00:02:40.340 --> 00:02:42.340
And the light of the moon vanishes,

00:02:42.340 --> 00:02:46.340
And the sun and moon are joined in the loss of their light,

00:02:46.340 --> 00:02:49.039
So that neither of them has any light left,

00:02:49.039 --> 00:02:53.539
Man will say when he witnesses the horrors of the Day of Resurrection,

00:02:53.539 --> 00:02:57.539
"Where is the escape from the terror that has descended?"

00:02:57.539 --> 00:03:01.610
No! There is no escape here that will benefit its seeker,

00:03:01.610 --> 00:03:04.610
For his flight will not save him,

00:03:04.610 --> 00:03:09.610
Nor is there any fortress, mountain, or stronghold to which he can turn,

00:03:09.610 --> 00:03:12.669
From the decree of Allah that has arrived.

00:03:12.669 --> 00:03:17.169
To your Lord, O man, on that day is the final destination.

00:03:17.169 --> 00:03:21.169
He is the One who settles all His creation in their final abode.

00:03:21.169 --> 00:03:26.169
Man will be informed, on the day the sun and moon are joined and folded up,

00:03:26.169 --> 00:03:32.169
Of everything he sent forth of good or evil during his life,

00:03:32.169 --> 00:03:36.169
And what he left behind of a good or bad Sunnah.

00:03:36.169 --> 00:03:42.969
“Oh, but man is a telling witness against himself,” (75:14)

00:03:42.969 --> 00:03:45.969
Even if he presents his excuses.

00:03:45.969 --> 00:03:53.000
Rather, man has observers within himself who watch his deeds,

00:03:53.000 --> 00:03:56.000
And bear witness against him, even if he offers excuses.

00:03:56.000 --> 00:04:01.919
“Stir not thy tongue herewith to hasten it.” (75:16)

00:04:01.919 --> 00:04:06.919
Indeed, upon Us is its collection and its recitation.

00:04:06.919 --> 00:04:10.919
So when We have recited it, follow its recitation.

00:04:10.919 --> 00:04:17.949
“Then lo! upon Us (resteth) the explanation thereof.” (75:19)

00:04:17.949 --> 00:04:20.949
The Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him,

00:04:20.949 --> 00:04:24.949
Used to move his lips when the Qur'an was revealed to him.

00:04:24.949 --> 00:04:30.949
So Allah said, "Do not move your tongue with the Qur'an, O Muhammad, to hasten it.

00:04:30.949 --> 00:04:35.949
Indeed, upon Us is the collection of this Qur'an in your heart, O Muhammad,

00:04:35.949 --> 00:04:37.949
So that We may fix it therein.

00:04:37.949 --> 00:04:42.949
And its recitation, so that you may recite it after We have collected it in your heart.

00:04:42.949 --> 00:04:45.949
So when it is recited to you, act upon it,

00:04:45.949 --> 00:04:47.949
Regarding its commands and prohibitions,

00:04:47.949 --> 00:04:50.560
And follow what you have been commanded."

00:04:50.560 --> 00:04:54.560
“Nay, but ye do love the fleeting Now” (75:20)

00:04:54.560 --> 00:04:58.230
And you neglect the Hereafter.

00:04:58.230 --> 00:05:01.230
The matter is not as you say, O people,

00:05:01.230 --> 00:05:04.230
That you will not be resurrected after your death,

00:05:04.230 --> 00:05:07.230
And will not be recompensed for your deeds.

00:05:07.230 --> 00:05:10.230
Rather, what prompted you to say that

00:05:10.230 --> 00:05:13.230
Is your love for the fleeting worldly life,

00:05:13.230 --> 00:05:18.230
And your preference for its desires over the eternal Hereafter and its bliss.

00:05:18.230 --> 00:05:23.230
So you believe in the immediate and deny the ultimate.

00:05:23.230 --> 00:05:29.000
Some faces, that Day, will be radiant,

00:05:29.000 --> 00:05:32.000
Looking at their Lord.

00:05:32.000 --> 00:05:38.000
And some faces, that Day, will be contorted.

00:05:38.000 --> 00:05:44.000
“Thou wilt know that some great disaster is about to fall on them.” (75:25)

00:05:44.000 --> 00:05:49.639
Faces on the Day of Resurrection will be beautiful and bright from the bliss,

00:05:49.639 --> 00:05:51.639
And they will look at their Lord.

00:05:51.639 --> 00:05:57.639
And other faces will be changed in color, blackened, and grim,

00:05:57.639 --> 00:06:00.639
Knowing that a calamity is about to befall them.

00:06:00.639 --> 00:06:05.399
“Nay, but when the life cometh up to the throat” (75:26)

00:06:05.399 --> 00:06:09.399
And it is said, "Is there any enchanter?"

00:06:09.399 --> 00:06:15.399
And he realizes that it is the separation,

00:06:15.399 --> 00:06:19.399
And the leg is wound about the leg.

00:06:19.399 --> 00:06:25.399
“Unto thy Lord that day will be the driving.” (75:30)

00:06:25.399 --> 00:06:29.850
The matter is not as these polytheists think,

00:06:29.850 --> 00:06:34.850
That they will not be punished for their shirk and their disobedience to their Lord.

00:06:34.850 --> 00:06:37.850
Rather, when the soul of one of them reaches the collarbones,

00:06:37.850 --> 00:06:40.850
At the time of his death, as he struggles to breathe,

00:06:40.850 --> 00:06:42.850
His family says,

00:06:42.850 --> 00:06:46.850
"Is there an enchanter who can heal him and cure him of what has befallen him?"

00:06:46.850 --> 00:06:49.850
They seek doctors and healers for him,

00:06:49.850 --> 00:06:54.850
But they cannot avail him anything against the decree of Allah that has arrived.

00:06:54.850 --> 00:06:57.850
And the one who is dying becomes certain

00:06:57.850 --> 00:07:01.850
That it is the separation from the world, family, wealth, and children.

00:07:01.850 --> 00:07:05.850
And the leg of the world is joined with the leg of the Hereafter.

00:07:05.850 --> 00:07:10.850
This is the intensity of the agony of death and the severity of the terror of what is to come.

00:07:10.850 --> 00:07:15.850
To your Lord, O Muhammad, on the day the leg is joined with the leg, is the driving.

00:07:15.850 --> 00:07:19.910
“For he neither trusted, nor prayed.” (75:31)

00:07:19.910 --> 00:07:24.910
But he denied and turned away.

00:07:24.910 --> 00:07:29.910
“Then went he to his folk with glee.” (75:33)

00:07:29.910 --> 00:07:32.910
Woe to you, and woe!

00:07:32.910 --> 00:07:37.230
“Again nearer unto thee and nearer (is the doom).” (75:35)

00:07:37.230 --> 00:07:40.899
He did not believe in the Book of Allah,

00:07:40.899 --> 00:07:42.899
Nor did he perform prayer for Him.

00:07:42.899 --> 00:07:45.899
But he denied the Book of Allah,

00:07:45.899 --> 00:07:48.899
And turned away, abandoning obedience to Allah.

00:07:48.899 --> 00:07:54.899
Then he went to his family, walking with a swagger.

00:07:54.899 --> 00:07:57.930
A warning from Allah upon a warning.

00:07:57.930 --> 00:08:05.860
Does man think that he will be left neglected?

00:08:05.860 --> 00:08:12.860
Had he not been a drop of emitted semen?

00:08:12.860 --> 00:08:18.959
Then he was a clinging clot, and He created and fashioned him.

00:08:18.959 --> 00:08:24.959
“And made of him a pair, the male and female.” (75:39)

00:08:24.959 --> 00:08:32.960
“Is not He (Who doeth so) Able to bring the dead to life?” (75:40)

00:08:32.960 --> 00:08:39.169
Does this human who denies Allah think he will be left aimlessly,

00:08:39.169 --> 00:08:44.169
Meaning, neither commanded, nor forbidden, nor held accountable for his worship?

00:08:44.169 --> 00:08:52.169
Was this denier not a small drop of fluid in the man's loins, from emitted semen?

00:08:52.169 --> 00:08:56.169
Then he was a clot, and Allah created him as a human.

00:08:56.169 --> 00:08:59.169
Then He fashioned him into a balanced human being.

00:08:59.169 --> 00:09:04.169
So He made from this human, after He fashioned him into a balanced creation,

00:09:04.169 --> 00:09:09.169
Is not the One who did that capable of bringing the dead to life?

00:09:09.169 --> 00:09:13.169
So He brings them into existence just as they were before their death.

00:09:13.169 --> 00:09:20.000
A summary of the Tafsir of al-Tabari.
