Forty hadiths on the virtue of charity. On the authority of Abu Hurayrah, may Allah be pleased with him, who asked, "O Messenger of Allah, which charity is best?" He replied, "The effort of one who has little." "And begin with those you support." Narrated by Abu Dawud. The meaning of the hadith: The best charity is that which is given by a poor person, from their meager wealth, according to their capacity and means, despite the hardship it entails for them. As for his saying, "And begin with those you support," it means to start with those whose maintenance is your obligation, from among your family and relatives, by providing them with abundance first, beyond their mandatory maintenance.
