Pause and identify these Companions, scholars, and prominent figures.
A new challenge: Who am I?
I am one of the Companions of the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him.
I am the first person to perform 'Umrah in Islam.
And the first Muslim to enter Makkah proclaiming the oneness of Allah (Tawhid).
I am the leader of the Banu Hanifah and a chief among their chiefs.
I am the first to impose an economic boycott on the disbelievers.
When I cut off the supply of provisions to the people of Makkah in support of the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him.
Before my conversion, I had confronted the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, while I was still a polytheist.
I intended to kill him, but Allah prevented me.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, prayed that Allah would grant him power over me.
Some time later, the Prophet, peace be upon him, sent a detachment toward Najd.
When they were on their way back,
They captured me while I was setting out for 'Umrah.
They took me as a prisoner with them to Madinah.
Then they tied me to one of the pillars of the Mosque.
The Prophet, peace be upon him, came out to me.
He said, "What do you have to say?"
I replied, "I have good, O Muhammad.
If you kill me, you kill one whose blood must be avenged.
If you show grace, you show grace to one who is grateful.
And if you desire wealth, ask for as much as you wish."
He left me and instructed his Companions to treat me well.
I was fed from the finest food they had.
When the next day came,
He came to me and said, "What do you have to say?"
I replied, "I have what I told you yesterday."
He left me.
When the third day came,
He came to me and said, "What do you have to say?"
I replied, "I have what I told you."
The Prophet, peace be upon him, said to his Companions,
"Release him," and they released me.
During those three days,
I had been listening to the word of Allah,
Seeing the worship of the Muslims and their unity,
Their love for the Prophet, peace be upon him,
And their selflessness toward one another.
So I went to a palm grove near the Mosque,
Performed ghusl, then entered the Mosque.
I said, "I bear witness that there is no god but Allah,
And that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah."
"By Allah, O Messenger of Allah,
There was no face on earth more hateful to me than yours.
But now, your face has become the most beloved of faces to me.
By Allah, there was no religion more hateful to me than your religion.
But now, your religion has become the most beloved religion to me.
By Allah, there was no land more hateful to me than your land.
But now, your land has become the most beloved of lands to me.
Your cavalry captured me while I was intending to perform 'Umrah.
So what do you advise?"
The Prophet, peace be upon him, gave me glad tidings,
Prayed for me,
And commanded me to complete my 'Umrah.
When I arrived in Makkah,
I performed the talbiyah of Tawhid.
Someone from the people of Makkah said to me,
"Have you apostatized?"
I said, "No,
But I have submitted to Islam,
And followed Muhammad, the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him."
They rose up to attack me,
But I said to them,
"By Allah, not a single grain of wheat shall reach you from Yamamah,
Until the Prophet, peace be upon him, permits it."
Some of the youth of Quraysh intended to shoot me with an arrow,
But they held his hand and said,
"Woe to you! Do you know who this is?
He is the King of Yamamah."
When I returned to my people,
I kept my oath.
I withheld from the people of Makkah what used to reach them from Yamamah,
Of their benefits and food,
Until they were struck by hardship.
They wrote to the Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, saying,
"We know you to be a man of integrity,
Who commands the maintaining of family ties and urges others to do so.
Your companion has cut off our supplies and harmed us.
If you see fit to write to him,
To let us have our supplies,
Then do so."
The Prophet, peace be upon him, responded to the request of his people,
And wrote to me,
"Let the Quraysh have their supplies."
I complied with the command of the Prophet, peace be upon him,
And allowed the Banu Hanifah to send crops to Makkah.
Toward the end of the life of the Prophet, peace be upon him,
The tribulation of Musaylimah the Liar emerged among my people.
It worsened after the passing of the Prophet, peace be upon him.
But Allah kept me steadfast on the religion,
And I did not apostatize with those who apostatized from the people of Yamamah.
I said to my people, warning them against Musaylimah,
"O Banu Hanifah,
Beware of this dark affair which has no light in it.
By Allah, it is a misery that Allah has decreed for those of you who follow it,
And a trial for those who do not."
"O Banu Hanifah,
Two prophets cannot exist at the same time,
And Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, and there is no prophet after him."
Then I fought alongside the Muslims,
Until the tribulation of Musaylimah the Liar ended with his death.
Then I prepared an army from the Banu Hanifah,
And marched with them until we joined the army of al-'Ala' Ibn al-Hadrami, may Allah be pleased with him,
In his war against the apostates of Bahrain.
