00:00:00.180 --> 00:00:09.730
A Summary of the Fundamentals of Ahl al-Sunnah:

00:00:09.730 --> 00:00:11.730
Among the essential requirements of fasting

00:00:11.730 --> 00:00:15.400
is that the God-consciousness (taqwa) it cultivates

00:00:15.400 --> 00:00:18.399
obliges a person to exhibit good character,

00:00:18.399 --> 00:00:21.399
and to refrain from false speech and foolish behavior toward others;

00:00:21.399 --> 00:00:26.399
otherwise, fasting will not yield its intended fruit.

00:00:26.399 --> 00:00:29.500
The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said:

00:00:29.500 --> 00:00:32.500
"When any of you is fasting on a given day,

00:00:32.500 --> 00:00:35.500
he should neither indulge in obscenity nor raise his voice in anger.

00:00:35.500 --> 00:00:38.500
And if someone insults him or picks a fight with him,

00:00:38.500 --> 00:00:41.500
let him say, 'I am a fasting person.'"

00:00:41.500 --> 00:00:45.200
Agreed upon.

00:00:45.200 --> 00:00:48.200
