Reliance upon Allah during times of hardship.

When a servant’s reliance upon his Creator is sound,

And his faith is sincere,

He is not swayed by crises that disturb,

Or hardships that cause sleeplessness,

Or sorrows that exhaust him.

His soul remains tranquil, neither doubting nor troubled,

For he has entrusted his entire affair to Allah the Exalted.

“And will provide for him from (a quarter) whence he hath no expectation. And whosoever putteth his trust in Allah, He will suffice him. Lo! Allah bringeth His command to pass. Allah hath set a measure for all things.” (65:3)

Abu Bakr al-Siddiq, may Allah be pleased with him, said on the day of the Hijrah,

While the polytheists were pursuing them:

"I looked at the feet of the polytheists above our heads while we were in the cave,"

"'If one of them were to look down at his feet,'"

Certain that all servants are in His hands,

And that benefit and harm belong to Him alone,

And that whoever upholds His laws, Allah will uphold him.

As in the golden advice given to Ibn 'Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both:

"Be mindful of Allah, and He will protect you."

"Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him before you."

This is a lofty station that the people of faith aspire to,

Especially the scholars.

Yet it is only attained through firm certainty and profound knowledge,

And constant devotion and sincere turning to Him.

“Then We heard his prayer, and bestowed upon him John, and adjusted his wife (to bear a child) for him. Lo! they used to vie one with the other in good deeds, and they cried unto Us in longing and in fear, and were submissive unto Us.” (21:90)

And they call upon Us with hope and fear.

So draw near to Allah through monotheism, remembrance, and sincerity.
