Forty hadiths on the virtue of charity.

On the authority of Abu Dharr, may Allah be pleased with him.

That the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said:

"There is no soul among the children of Adam upon which a charity is not due for every day the sun rises."

It was asked, "O Messenger of Allah,

from where shall we have the means to give charity?"

He replied, "Indeed, the gates of goodness are many:

glorifying Allah (tasbih), praising Him (tahmid), magnifying Him (takbir), and declaring His oneness (tahlil);

enjoining good and forbidding evil;

removing obstacles from the path;

helping the deaf to hear and guiding the blind;

directing the seeker to what he needs;

hastening with the strength of your legs to assist the distressed who is calling for help;

and using the strength of your arms to support the weak.

All of this is a charity from you for your own soul."
