On the authority of Abu Dharr, may God be pleased with him, also that some of the companions of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said to the Prophet, “O Messenger of God, the people of wealth have gone with wages. They pray as we pray, they fast as we fast, and they give in charity with the excess of their money.” He said, “Hasn’t God made for you what you give charity? Indeed, for every tasbihah there is a charity, and every takbeer is a charity, every praise is a charity, and every tahlilah is a charity, and enjoining what is right is a charity and forbidding what is evil is a charity, and in the marriage of one of you is a charity. They said, ‘O The Messenger of God, does one of us fulfill his desire and have a reward for it? He said: Have you seen that if he fulfilled it in something forbidden, he would be burdened with sin? Likewise, if he fulfilled it in what was lawful, he would have a reward. Narrated by Muslim.

I was tempted at a young age when my soul was illuminated by the light of faith and my heart was filled with the meanings of Islam, and my eyes were not darkened by the sight of the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him. The first time I loved him with a love that took over every part of my heart and I fell in love with him, and cursed him, he turned me away from everything else. Then I said to myself one day: Woe to you, O Rabi’ah, why don’t you devote yourself to serving the Messenger of God, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, offer yourself to him, and if he accepts you, you will be happy with his proximity and win his love. And I enjoyed the goodness of this world and the hereafter

My soul told me to ask the Messenger of God for something of the good of the world, which would enrich me from poverty, and others would make you rich with money, a husband, and a child, but I did not hesitate to say, “Fuck you, Rabi’ah bin Ka’b. This world is fleeting and fleeting, and if you have sustenance in it, God Almighty will guarantee it. It must come to you while the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, is in a position with his Lord with which he will not have a request. So ask him to ask God for your bounty in the Hereafter, so my soul was pleased with that and was at ease for him.

What do you say, Rabia? So I said, O Messenger of God, I ask you to pray to God Almighty for me to make me your companion in Paradise. He said, “Who has advised you to do that?” and I said, “No, by God, no one has recommended that to me.” But when you said to me, “Ask me, I will give you.” My soul told me to ask you for something of the good of this world. Then, soon after, I was guided to prefer what remains over the mortal, so I asked you to pray to God for me to be your companion in Paradise.
