One of their kings allowed

practiced by her people among the Children of Israel.

from their worldly possessions,

nor do we see ourselves possessing

any advantage over them."

So Elijah, peace be upon him, parted from him,

saying: "To Allah we belong and to Him we return."

That king then returned to worshipping [idols].

a righteous, believing neighbor

who concealed his faith,

and he owned an orchard

adjacent to the king's palace.

The king treated him well as a neighbor,

but the king had a wife

of immense wickedness and disbelief.

She asked her husband,

the king, to seize the orchard

of that man, but he refused.

The woman used to

govern in place of her husband whenever he traveled

away from his land.

On one such occasion,

his wife plotted against the orchard's owner

by having false witnesses testify that

he had cursed the king.

She then had him killed and seized his orchard.

When the king returned,

he became furious at this,

finding it monstrous and abhorrent.

She told him: "The matter is already done."

commanding him to tell the king

and his wife to return

the orchard to its owner's heirs;

otherwise, if he failed to do so,

At that point, he supplicated against them,

vermin, and trees perished,

and the people suffered

severe distress.

out of fear of the Children of Israel,

and his sustenance used to come

to his hiding place

on Mount Qasiyun.

Later, he came to them

and said to them:

"You have been brought to ruin,

and the beasts have perished because of your sins.

If you wish

to know that Allah

is displeased with you for your actions

and that what I call you

to is the truth,

then bring out your idols

and call upon them.

If they answer you,

then that is the truth, just as you say;

but if they do not,

you will know that you are upon falsehood,

so that you may desist

and supplicate to Allah,

and He may relieve you."

They said: "You have proposed a fair deal."

So they brought out their idols

and invoked them

to help them,

but no relief came to them.

They then said to Elijah, peace be upon him:

"We are utterly ruined;

pray to Allah for us."

So he prayed to Allah for their relief

and that they be given rain.

A cloud like a shield then appeared

and grew large

while they were looking on.

Allah then sent rain from it,

so their lands revived

and Allah relieved them

of the affliction they were enduring.

Yet they did not desist,

nor did they return to the truth.

When Elijah, peace be upon him, saw that,

Almighty to take his soul

and give him relief from them.

So Allah took him unto Himself,

He then secluded himself with him

away from the people in his hideout

with wisdom and discernment from his youth,

because of the vastness of his knowledge (sa'ah)

and his striving (sa'y) in pursuit of the truth.

He used to pursue the Children of Israel,

pointing out to them

their errors

and clarifying to them what was right,

until they came to resent him

and shun him.

In his time, there was an increase in

tribulations and sins,

and tyrannical kings multiplied,

killing the prophets

and displacing the believers.

So Al-Yasa',

peace be upon him, admonished them

and frightened them with the punishment of Allah,

but they paid no heed to his call.

And Allah Almighty supported him

with miracles,

among which was that he revived the dead,

healed the blind and the leper,

and the River Jordan

dried up for him

so that he walked across it.

His people witnessed that,

yet they did not believe

nor were they deterred.

Then Allah Almighty took his soul,

and Allah imposed over

the Children of Israel those who would subject them

to dreadful torment.

three conditions so that I may appoint him:

that he fasts by day,

stands in prayer by night,

and never becomes angry?"

A man who appeared insignificant in the eyes of others stood up

and said:

"I will."

"Will you fast by day,

stand in prayer by night, and never become angry?"

He replied, "Yes."

So he dismissed them that day,

and repeated the same proposal

The people remained silent,

and that same man stood up,

saying, "I will."

So he appointed him as his successor.

Then Iblis began saying to the devils:

"Take on such-and-such person."

But it proved too difficult for them,

He came to him just as he had taken

He knocked on the door,

and he asked: "Who is this?"

"An old, wronged man."

and the man began relating his story to him,

saying: "There is between me

and my people a dispute;

they have wronged me,

and done such-and-such to me."

He kept prolonging his story

until late afternoon arrived

and the midday rest was missed.

So he said to him:

"When I go to my assembly of judgment,

come to me and I will secure

your right for you."

So he left.

The man then went to his assembly

and kept looking to see if he could spot the old man,

but he did not see him.

he began judging between the people

while waiting for him, but he did not see him.

they denied my right again."

and whenever I go to the assembly of judgment,

Thus he missed his midday rest again.

He went out in the late afternoon and waited,

but did not see him.

Drowsiness weighed heavily upon him,

so he said to those with him:

"Let no one come near this door

so that I may sleep,

for sleep has become unbearable for me."

An elderly man arrived.

And Allah made him die a hundred years, then brought him back to life. He said: How long hast thou tarried? (The man) said: I have tarried a day or part of a day. (He) said: Nay, but thou hast tarried for a hundred years. Just look at thy food and drink which have not rotted! Look at thine ass! And, that We may make thee a token unto mankind, look at the bones, how We adjust them and then cover them with flesh! And when (the matter) became clear unto him, he said: I know now that Allah is Able to do all things.” (2:259)

So he prayed to his Lord,

and he wiped his hand over her eyes,

and she cried out.

He took her hand and said,

"Stand up by the permission of Allah."

and she stood up healthy, as if she had been

untied from a tether.

She looked at him,

and said, "I bear witness

She set out to the Children of Israel,

and found them in their meeting places

and gatherings.

A son of Uzayr was an old man,

years old, and the sons of

his sons were elders in the assembly.

She called out to them and said,

"This is Uzayr;

But they did not recognize her.

She said, "The Torah was lost,

and nothing remained of it

with the Children of Israel around him,

and he wrote the Torah for them.

by the command of Allah the Exalted,

Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, said:

﴾And We will make you a sign for the people﴿.

and they were old men whose heads had turned white,

memorized it and wrote it,

and Allah brought him to life

after He caused him to die."

miraculous matter,

so they sanctified him and falsely claimed

that he was the son of Allah.

Allah the Exalted said:

'Uzayr is the son of Allah'﴿.

They went astray by this

and disbelieved.

The name of Uzayr,

peace be upon him, is not mentioned explicitly in the Qur'an

We raise them,

And when it became clear
