0:00 The Story of Women's Suffering in the Era of Moses, Peace Be Upon Him

0:06 Indeed, the promise of Allah is true.

0:12 Allah Almighty has promised us in His Book,

0:17 and through the words of His Messenger (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), many matters.

0:22 He, Exalted in His Majesty, informed us that His promise is true,

0:26 and that He never breaks His promise.

0:29 He Almighty said:

0:31 “O mankind! Lo! the promise of Allah is true. So let not the life of the world beguile you, and let not the (avowed) beguiler beguile you with regard to Allah.” (35:5)

0:35 And He said: "Indeed, Allah does not fail in His promise."

0:40 And He, Exalted and Glorious, said:

0:42 "The promise of Allah. Allah does not fail in His promise."

0:46 And He, Glorified be He, said:

0:48 "The promise of Allah is true."

0:50 “But as for those who believe and do good works We shall bring them into Gardens underneath which rivers flow, wherein they will abide for ever. It is a promise from Allah in truth; and who can be more truthful than Allah in utterance?” (4:122)

0:54 However, the real problem lies in our ignorance of Allah,

0:59 as well as the weakness of our faith and conviction in Allah's promise,

1:03 as He Almighty said:

1:05 “It is a promise of Allah. Allah faileth not His promise, but most of mankind know not.” (30:6)

1:08 "But most of the people do not know."

1:13 And when the period of trial is prolonged,

1:15 and hearts reach the throats,

1:18 and the earth, despite its vastness, seems constrained around us,

1:21 and despair assails the hearts,

1:23 at this moment, a Muslim realizes the true state of his faith and conviction in Allah's promise.

1:28 He Almighty said:

1:30 “When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when eyes grew wild and hearts reached to the throats, and ye were imagining vain thoughts concerning Allah.” (33:10)

1:38 “When they came upon you from above you and from below you, and when eyes grew wild and hearts reached to the throats, and ye were imagining vain thoughts concerning Allah.” (33:10)

1:51 "And you assumed about Allah [various] assumptions."

1:56 "There the believers were tested and shaken with a severe shaking."

2:04 “And when the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, were saying: Allah and His messenger promised us naught but delusion.” (33:12)

2:19 And He Almighty said:

2:23 "Or do you think that you will enter Paradise..."

2:28 “Or think ye that ye will enter paradise while yet there hath not come unto you the like of (that which came to) those who passed away before you? Affliction and adversity befell them, they were shaken as with earthquake, till the messenger (of Allah) and those who believed along with him said: When cometh Allah's help? Now surely Allah's help is nigh.” (2:214)

2:35 “Or think ye that ye will enter paradise while yet there hath not come unto you the like of (that which came to) those who passed away before you? Affliction and adversity befell them, they were shaken as with earthquake, till the messenger (of Allah) and those who believed along with him said: When cometh Allah's help? Now surely Allah's help is nigh.” (2:214)

3:01 And He, Glorified be He, said:

3:04 “Till, when the messengers despaired and thought that they were denied, then came unto them Our help, and whom We would was saved. And Our wrath cannot be warded from the guilty.” (12:110)

3:29 Here, refining and purification take place so that people may discern the true nature of their faith and the faith of those around them,

3:36 "that those who perished might perish upon a clear proof and those who lived might live upon a clear proof."

3:42 Thus, the believer is distinguished by his faith, and the hypocrite by his doubt and lack of belief in Allah's promise.

3:49 This is precisely the benefit of the hardship that afflicts Muslims.

3:54 He Almighty said:

3:56 “And when the true believers saw the clans, they said: This is that which Allah and His messenger promised us. Allah and His messenger are true. It did but confirm them in their faith and resignation.” (33:22)

4:09 “And when the true believers saw the clans, they said: This is that which Allah and His messenger promised us. Allah and His messenger are true. It did but confirm them in their faith and resignation.” (33:22)

4:18 Whoever recognizes the true state of his faith and the extent of his belief in Allah's promise in his life,

4:25 and utilizes this awareness to correct his path toward Allah and the Abode of the Hereafter, will surely triumph.

4:31 But whoever ignores these signs that pass before him in his worldly life—meant to reveal his true self—

4:38 has suffered a manifest loss.

4:41 It is out of Allah's mercy upon us that He relates to us the stories of previous nations, so that we may take admonition,

4:49 and know that the promise of Allah is true. Allah Almighty said:

4:55 “And all that We relate unto thee of the story of the messengers is in order that thereby We may make firm thy heart. And herein hath come unto thee the Truth and an exhortation and a reminder for believers.” (11:120)

5:15 Among these stories is the story of the mother of Moses.

5:19 For Allah Almighty promised her, saying:

5:22 “And We inspired the mother of Moses, saying: Suckle him and, when thou fearest for him, then cast him into the river and fear not nor grieve. Lo! We shall bring him back unto thee and shall make him (one) of Our messengers.” (28:7)

5:28 And Allah fulfilled His promise:

5:30 "So We restored him to his mother that her eye might be comforted and that she might not grieve."

5:35 “So We restored him to his mother that she might be comforted and not grieve, and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true. But most of them know not.” (28:13)

5:42 Ibn Kathir (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

5:45 "And there was only a short time between the hardship and the relief—

5:49 a day and a night, or thereabouts;

5:51 and Allah knows best.

5:53 So glory be to Him in Whose Hand is the entire affair!

5:55 Whatever He wills comes to pass, and whatever He does not will does not occur.

6:00 He who grants for the one who fears Him a relief after every anxiety,

6:04 and a way out after every distress."

6:07 For this reason, He Almighty said:

6:09 "So We restored him to his mother that her eye might be comforted,"

6:14 meaning, by him,

6:15 "and that she might not grieve,"

6:17 meaning, over him,

6:18 “So We restored him to his mother that she might be comforted and not grieve, and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true. But most of them know not.” (28:13)

6:22 meaning, regarding what He had promised her of restoring him to her

6:25 and making him one of the messengers.

6:28 At that moment, upon his return to her, it was confirmed

6:31 that he would indeed become a messenger among the messengers.

6:35 Thus, she raised him in accordance with what was naturally and religiously appropriate for him.

6:40 And Al-Sa'di (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

6:43 "'So We restored him to his mother'

6:45 as We had promised her.

6:47 'that her eye might be comforted and that she might not grieve,'

6:50 such that he was raised by her in a state where she felt safe and reassured,

6:56 rejoicing in him and receiving a generous reward for that.

7:01 “So We restored him to his mother that she might be comforted and not grieve, and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true. But most of them know not.” (28:13)

7:04 Thus, We showed her visually a part of what We had promised her,

7:08 so that her heart might be reassured thereby,

7:11 and her faith might increase,

7:13 and she would know that Allah's promise regarding his protection and his messengership will certainly come to pass."

7:19 He promised her that He would return him to her,

7:23 and that occurred right before her eyes within a short period.

7:27 And He promised her that He would make him one of the messengers,

7:30 which required a long time—

7:33 the mother of Moses might live to see it, or she might not.

7:37 Yet, she firmly believed in its fulfillment,

7:40 just as the first promise of returning him to her was fulfilled.

7:44 This implies that what Allah has promised us does not necessarily have to be fulfilled during our lifetime,

7:51 but we firmly believe that Allah will fulfill His promise.

7:55 Allah Almighty has promised us things that will be fulfilled for us in this world,

8:01 and things that will be fulfilled in the Hereafter.

8:04 As for those belonging to the Hereafter,

8:06 we believe in them, even though we will not witness them in this world,

8:10 and they are part of the true promise.

8:13 As for what pertains to this world,

8:15 we may either witness it in our lifetime,

8:18 or die before its fulfillment;

8:21 nevertheless, we likewise believe in it,

8:23 and it is part of the true promise.

8:26 An example of this is

8:28 establishing succession on the earth.

8:30 He Almighty said:

8:34 “Allah hath promised such of you as believe and do good work that He will surely make them to succeed (the present rulers) in the earth even as He caused those who were before them to succeed (others); and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He hath approved for them, and will give them in exchange safety after their fear. They serve Me. They ascribe no thing as partner unto Me. Those who disbelieve henceforth, they are the miscreants.” (24:55)

8:40 “Allah hath promised such of you as believe and do good work that He will surely make them to succeed (the present rulers) in the earth even as He caused those who were before them to succeed (others); and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He hath approved for them, and will give them in exchange safety after their fear. They serve Me. They ascribe no thing as partner unto Me. Those who disbelieve henceforth, they are the miscreants.” (24:55)

8:47 "And that He will surely establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them."

8:52 “Allah hath promised such of you as believe and do good work that He will surely make them to succeed (the present rulers) in the earth even as He caused those who were before them to succeed (others); and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He hath approved for them, and will give them in exchange safety after their fear. They serve Me. They ascribe no thing as partner unto Me. Those who disbelieve henceforth, they are the miscreants.” (24:55)

8:58 “Allah hath promised such of you as believe and do good work that He will surely make them to succeed (the present rulers) in the earth even as He caused those who were before them to succeed (others); and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He hath approved for them, and will give them in exchange safety after their fear. They serve Me. They ascribe no thing as partner unto Me. Those who disbelieve henceforth, they are the miscreants.” (24:55)

9:02 “Allah hath promised such of you as believe and do good work that He will surely make them to succeed (the present rulers) in the earth even as He caused those who were before them to succeed (others); and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He hath approved for them, and will give them in exchange safety after their fear. They serve Me. They ascribe no thing as partner unto Me. Those who disbelieve henceforth, they are the miscreants.” (24:55)

9:09 This is a promise from Allah Almighty

9:12 to grant empowerment on earth to the believers,

9:15 and to transform their state from fear of the tyranny and persecution of rulers

9:21 into security that enables them to worship Allah alone

9:25 and to implement His pure Law on earth.

9:29 This promise requires patience and absolute conviction from us.

9:33 He Almighty said:

9:35 "So be patient. Indeed, the promise of Allah is truth."

9:40 “So have patience (O Muhammad)! Allah's promise is the very truth, and let not those who have no certainty make thee impatient.” (30:60)

9:47 Al-Sa'di (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

9:52 “So have patience (O Muhammad)! Allah's promise is the very truth, and let not those who have no certainty make thee impatient.” (30:60)

9:56 "Meaning, their faith has weakened and their conviction has diminished,

10:00 thereby undermining their sound judgment and lessening their patience.

10:04 So beware lest these people sway you;

10:07 for if you do not pay close attention to them and remain on your guard against them,

10:12 they will unsettle you and lead you away from steadfast adherence to the commandments and prohibitions."

10:18 Thus, the primary lesson from the story of the mother of Moses

10:23 is what Allah Almighty stated:

10:26 “So We restored him to his mother that she might be comforted and not grieve, and that she might know that the promise of Allah is true. But most of them know not.” (28:13)

10:29 "But most of them do not know."

10:32 Al-Sa'di (may Allah have mercy on him) said:

10:35 "'But most of them do not know.'

10:38 Thus, when they see worldly means disrupted,

10:41 their faith becomes shaken due to their lack of complete knowledge

10:45 that Allah Almighty places severe trials and arduous obstacles

10:51 right before lofty outcomes and noble aspirations."

10:55 Perhaps I may conclude this episode with a few questions

11:00 that require reflection and deep thought from you, my noble sister:

11:05 What are the matters that Allah has promised you in your capacity as a woman,

11:10 in His Book or through the words of His Messenger?

11:13 Allah has promised the provision for every newborn child, as well as the provision for their parents;

11:18 so, to what extent do you believe in this promise?

11:21 And what impact does it have on your view regarding pregnancy?

11:25 Allah has promised provision for the poor suitor

11:28 when he proposes to you or to your daughter;

11:32 so, to what extent do you believe in this promise?

11:35 And what impact does that have on accepting or rejecting him?
